I freeze. Does he know? No, he can't. Potter can't know. I didn't tell him, and no one but me knows. I turn slowly. He looks at me confused. "What?" He looks concerned, which I hate.
"She's fine," I say, voice low. He raises his eyebrow, as if he doesn't believe me. "For Merlin's sake stop looking at me like that Potter!" "Like what?" He looks even more confused. "Like you care!" I snap.
Potter's face turns a crimson red. It looks good on him, and my heart stops. Wait- did I just say Potter looked good?
"Where'd you get that bruise from?" He asks suddenly. I have to come up with a lie. And quick. "I got it from Henry. Henry Harlow," I lie quickly.
"I thought he just broke your nose," Potter says, looking confused again. "He bruised my face too," I say hastily. "Merlin, I'm getting tired," I yawn. "I ought to go."
"Sure," Potter says, obviously still not convinced. "G'night Malfoy." I nod a goodbye, cover myself in my cloak and run down the hall. I run to the Slytherin common room and nearly shout, "Pureblood!" The door opens and I run to my dorm, probably waking everyone nearby up. I throw myself onto the bed. He asked about my Mum. He asked about my bruise. Wonder what's gonna be next; when was the last time I ate? No, Pansy covered that already.
Why are you so thin? Why's there a deep cut on your arm? Why do you look like you haven't slept in months? Why is your hair such a mess? Those are all things he can ask. I purse my lips. Potter doesn't care. No. He's just a busybody. But a part of me wonders if he genuinely cared about my well being.
I shake all thoughts of Potter out of my head, as I fall into a light, restless sleep.
