Every day at lunch, Robbie would leave the class and go to the big mango tree at the back of the school to eat his lunch. No matter how hard his friends begged or tried to persuade him, he would not eat lunch with them. On rainy days when he couldn't go outside, he still avoided eating lunch in the classroom or the lunch hall.
One day at break, his friends were boasting about their lunches. Murray said he had macaroni and cheese; Phillip had steamed fish and vegetables; Akim had pelau; and Chad boasted his mother would deliver a pizza for lunch because it was his birthday. Robbie stayed quiet. He didn't like to talk about food.
"Robbie, you didn't say what you had for lunch." Murray shouted over the others.
"Yeah," Akim echoed.
The boys stopped talking and looked at Robbie, who just looked around at the group and smiled.
"You're always eating by yourself. You afraid we'll ask you for some?" Chad goaded him.
"I bet he has provision; that's why he's not saying anything." Phillip mocked.
"Ew!" the other boys squealed.
"I hate provision!" Akim spat.
"Me too," the others agreed.
"No, I don't have provision." Robbie said.
"Well, what do you have?" Murray pressed.
"... Stew wind and Sun sauce. I know none of you ever had that before. And I'm not going to share it." Robbie smiled sadly.
"What is that?"
"Yeah!"
"Y'all don't know, and I don't have to tell you." Robbie said, as he got up and left.
But the boys remained curious, so they went to the class teacher and inquired about stew wind and sun sauce.
"It means you have nothing to eat because you can't buy food."
