Phillipa sat on a park bench with her granddaughter, excitedly chatting away. A man standing near the tables watched them for a few moments before approaching the pair.
"Phillipa."
Phillipa turned to the man. "Erik. Hi."
"Hi. I didn't think I'd run into you here."
The child looked the stranger over, paying close attention to how he interacted with her grandmother.
"I'm just taking a walk with my granddaughter. Ah, this is—"
"Are you hitting on my grandma?" The child asked abruptly.
Phillipa shot the girl a stern look while Erik laughed nervously.
"I am. Will you help me score a date with her?"
"What's in it for me?" The child inquired.
"Hey!"
"Grandma, shush, I'm discussing."
Phillipa looked at her granddaughter, completely flabbergasted.
"You'll have a grandpa," Erik suggested.
"Don't need one. Besides, Grandma isn't going to marry you; she loved Grandpa too much. What else?"
"...You won't have to worry about her being lonely when you're gone."
"She's not lonely. She has Blacky."
"He's a cat. He can't take care of her when she's sick."
The girl thought for a brief moment, then stretched out a hand to Erik. He shook her hand as they exchanged pleasantries.
"Good doing business with you. I'm Kayla, by the way."
"Likewise, I'm Erik."
"Grandma's free tomorrow after 3 pm. You can visit her or take her out somewhere."
"Excuse me! You went through my journal?" Phillipa asked angrily.
"It's the only way to know I'm not bothering you."
Erik said goodbye and left the pair to sort out their dispute. A while later, Kayla's father, Alexei, arrived. Kayla ran to her father, jumping into his arms.
"Dad, Grandma has a boyfriend!"
