Alaska looks out into the distance from the top of a tree. She scopes the area around her, then notices a faint smell in the air. She could now see something strange, of an orange color. It was as if a dense thick smoke was devastating the surrounding area. Alaska wondered what exactly was happening. She climbed down the tree slowly and when she got to the bottom, she grabbed her staff. She made her way back to the hut to ask Ruog if he knew anything about the strange orange smoke.191Please respect copyright.PENANAUjZu1XjzZK
As she walked towards the hut, she noticed that the smoke was getting thicker and closer. She could hear the rumble of thunder getting closer and the smell of a strange scent unfamiliar to her. Her heart started to race as she quickened her pace towards the hut.191Please respect copyright.PENANAzRU0ngiOCQ
When she arrived, she found Ruog outside, staring in the same direction as the smoke. "What's happening?" Alaska asked breathlessly. She points to the smoke in the far-off distance.191Please respect copyright.PENANAoM1a8ddf6C
Ruog's face turned from confusion to fear as soon as Alaska arrived pointing at the thick smoke.191Please respect copyright.PENANA3mRuOaoNq8
Alaska felt her stomach drop with fear. She had never experienced anything like this in the jungle before and didn't know what to expect. "Where do we go?" she asked, her voice trembling. Ruog could see the fear in her eyes.191Please respect copyright.PENANAwxINUqwjQK
“Do not worry, Alaska.” Ruog meditated on the situation. He passes her as he walks forward toward the smoke. He quickly put his wooden staff down and started to climb a large tree near him. Alaska looks up trying to calm herself. She took deep breaths and closed her eyes to compose herself.191Please respect copyright.PENANAfForoJVR7p
When Ruog finally got to the top, he studied the movement of the orange smoke. He licks his index finger and points it out in front of him. He sighed in relief and began to smile. He could feel the current of the wind brushing past his fingertip.191Please respect copyright.PENANAJJdgvL61Ex
“Hey, Ruog. What shouldn’t I be worried about? What is this? Some kind of fire?” Alaska looked up at Ruog and then back at the smoke that was approaching them quickly.191Please respect copyright.PENANAw7JKEozpWL
“It’s a fog storm!” Ruog yelled back to her from the top of the tree. He tries his best to maintain his balance at the top.191Please respect copyright.PENANAklaRjq9obv
“A fog storm? I’ve never heard of such a thing.” Alaska watched as Ruog climbed down slowly from the large tree. He jumps off from a certain height down to the ground.191Please respect copyright.PENANAYlH97jtw4B
“Yes. The orange smoke is a sign of Yertonu.” Ruog replied.191Please respect copyright.PENANAg1Ifo6i2xF
“And.... What is it exactly? What is Yert… onu?”191Please respect copyright.PENANApRc4Y3conf
“I keep forgetting that you’re not from this world.” Ruog takes a deep breath and crosses his arms before continuing to explain. “Yertonu is one of the largest volcanoes we have. An active volcano I should mention. It is known for its destructive power. The smoke you see in the distance comes from that volcano. If you’re caught in the middle of it, it would be difficult for you to breathe. Lightning is produced by the clouds and the winds that come out of the volcano are lethal. It’s best to find shelter quickly if you are caught in such a violent storm.”191Please respect copyright.PENANAvIJH0Vh0nM
“Where is that volcano? Down there?” Alaska points to a small dot in the distance where she can see some orange smoke lifting high in the air. There was still so much Alaska didn’t know about the jungle. She watches in awe as the smoke coming from the volcano in the distance climbs to the top of the clouds. It's faint but Alaska can make out from where they are in the jungle, where the Yertonu volcano is located.191Please respect copyright.PENANAMbj1CPP1fH
“Yes, you’re right. It’s that area over there in the distance.” Ruog squinted his eyes as he looked toward the direction where the volcano was located.191Please respect copyright.PENANA0759mNRjbL
“The thunder is getting louder, and it sounds horrible. Should we get inside the hut?” Alaska began to worry as she made her way back to the hut. She wondered if Ruog’s small wooden hut would be able to withstand the intensity of the storm.191Please respect copyright.PENANAqaMrY1lh0A
“No need.” Alaska stops in her tracks confused at Ruog’s response.191Please respect copyright.PENANAm5fy3S7SDN
She turns to face him. “But you said this storm is lethal.”191Please respect copyright.PENANAeq8tkUQdyX
“Calm your heart, for the winds are in our favor today. The storm is heading out away from us. It will not hit us, so we shouldn’t worry.”191Please respect copyright.PENANAelzXC5JJbD
“Oh, what a relief. Thank goodness.” Alaska sighed in relief. Just then the winds continued to pick up speed lightning struck a tree in the distance, causing it to catch fire. Alaska could see the fire, but it was extremely far, and it wouldn’t reach them to pose any real danger. “Yeah, this strange storm looks bad. It’s a good thing we’re up on this high plateau, far away from it.”191Please respect copyright.PENANAuFXLAGrS50
Ruog nodded, picked up his wooden staff, and headed back to the hut. Alaska followed him there trailing behind by a few steps.191Please respect copyright.PENANAOnBRriBDVL
“That Shintiro character is probably long gone by now from this area. In the morning we could head out and continue the search for your friends. I think we waited long enough.”191Please respect copyright.PENANA53E67QWPzi
“Hmm, I also think… my friends are long gone too.” When Alaska finished speaking Ruog stopped moving forward and turned around. He pauses for a second before responding to her.191Please respect copyright.PENANAuLXlaphCQH
“What’s the matter? Do you no longer want to search for them? It seems as if you have given up again.”191Please respect copyright.PENANADpkfgeP0fl
“No…. It’s not that…. “ Alaska looked down trying to find the right words. “Like I have said before. It doesn’t seem like there is any trace of them anywhere… like as if they aren’t even searching for me. They must have moved on…”191Please respect copyright.PENANAD0QueL4G5M
“And I keep telling you the same thing. They would never give up on you, Alaska. You’re a strong, intelligent person. Inpatient at times, yes, but still a wonderful person. I will not rest until you find them.”191Please respect copyright.PENANA7gqhyO3k1X
Alaska is taken aback by Ruog’s determination to find her friends.191Please respect copyright.PENANAzVgndmWuPu
“Why? Why do you want to help me find them so badly?”
“It is obvious that you do not belong in this savage world. I can see it. You have a kind gentle spirit. If you safely return with your friend back to your world, I would be forever grateful to have helped you get back home. Back to your family, the people you love.” Tears began to form in Alaska’s eyes as she thought about Ruog’s words.191Please respect copyright.PENANA8wxjecY504
“I don’t feel that way… Ruog. That I have a…. kind gentle spirit.”191Please respect copyright.PENANAYvvHzmmY3I
“Your heart is weighing heavy now. But it will be a different story when you are finally reunited with your friends.” Ruog reaches out and wipes the tears from her face. Alaska truly felt as if her friends left her behind and had forgotten all about her. But with Ruog’s encouraging words, she felt a feeling of joy wash over her. She knew that no matter what happens Ruog had her back. She felt safe around him, like a father and his daughter. Ruog smiled at her, "I know sometimes it might feel that way, that you're alone and no one cares, but just remember that no adventure or journey is easy. There are always ups and downs. The important thing is to keep focusing on what’s ahead of you and keeping your mind clear and your spirit strong." He held out his hand, "Now, let's head back to the hut and prepare dinner."191Please respect copyright.PENANA1b2f8TcVvK
Alaska felt a sense of relief wash over her, happy to have such a kind and caring friend by her side. She felt stronger knowing that she wasn't alone, that someone was watching out for her. She held on to his hand for a bit as a sign of trust and nodded in agreement. She then followed him back to the hut with a sense of hope and excitement.191Please respect copyright.PENANACUYkREcMFH
As soon as the sun’s light hit the horizon, Alaska woke up to a delicious smell. It was Ruog cooking breakfast outside. After they both ate a meal, they got their gear ready. Ruog filled some sacks of fresh water for the long journey ahead. With that, they ventured out toward the Mighty Mizian River to find Alaska’s friends.191Please respect copyright.PENANAOgmjFbRSKu
After yesterday’s conversation with Ruog, Alaska had a pep in her step and was excited to continue her journey to find you, Inkagi, and Pyro.191Please respect copyright.PENANAMIET7baQhq
Alaska pushes forward as Ruog warns her to slow down. Alaska was already used to Ruog always trying to give her advice and tell her what to do. Most of the time she would listen but, on this occasion, she was just ignoring most of his comments. She brushes them to the side as she picks up the pace. “How can I slow down? I need to charge ahead and find my friends!” Ruog sighs and shakes his head. He knows that the jungle is an unforgiving place. Each corner could be filled with dangers and each step they take could be their last if they don’t move with caution. Of all people, Alaska knows this but her excitement is just too much for her to keep bottled up inside.191Please respect copyright.PENANAaiBhKAqXPU
Alaska could not fathom the massive length of the Mighty Mizian River. It kept going on and on. There was no end in sight. She understood now why the river was called mighty. But she did not want the river’s length to intimidate her. She kept charging forward with each step, more determined than ever to find her friends.191Please respect copyright.PENANAtzIlBggmju
The intense sounds of the river drown out the warning calls of Ruog. He was a good distance away from her. He kept urging her to slow down. Something was on his mind. An uneasy feeling swept over him as he charged forward after trying to catch up to Alaska’s energetic pace. He looked down to the ground to see the strange formation in the dirt. He turns his head to the left as he examines the muddy soil. “What is this?” Ruog could see these had to be footprints of some kind. They looked fresh and that made Ruog concerned for their safety. Ruog dropped his bag full of some weapons and tools to the ground trying to examine the area carefully.191Please respect copyright.PENANAO8vEocmaxi
Ruog quickly snapped out of his trance and looked up to see where Alaska had gone. As Alaska neared the riverbank, she suddenly heard a roar echoing in the air around her. It came from all directions, bouncing off the tall trees. She suddenly became more alert to her surroundings and the roar shook her to her very core. It wasn’t a sound that was familiar to her at all. She grips her wooden staff tightly while scanning the area around her.191Please respect copyright.PENANArFRIduqKNA
The roar felt like a blood-thirsty cry. The sound was full of pure evil and dread. She looked back to see Ruog trying to catch up to her, but it was too late. He called out to her, but Alaska could only see his mouth move. Something in her mind drowned out his words. She felt a sudden rush of adrenaline as she quickly turned and darted toward a large boulder she had seen nearby. As Alaska ran toward the boulder, she was hoping that hiding behind the boulder would help her avoid whatever was in the area. She knew it had to be some kind of predator. She took cover behind the boulder, squatting down behind it. She placed her hands on the boulder to keep her balance, but she still had no idea where the frightening roar originated from. 191Please respect copyright.PENANA50M9E8dCaZ
She gulps and tries to look back to where she’d last seen Ruog, but he was gone. Her heart began to pound vigorously in her chest. She felt something was not right. She tried to hold her breath because she suddenly felt a puff of cold air pass by her neck. She refused to move an inch as she began to tremble uncontrollably. The hairs on the back of her neck stood up as her eyes widened. Alaska began to hyperventilate.191Please respect copyright.PENANAkEueaLDD9n
Alaska could hear a faint gurgling sound. A dark large shadowy silhouette began to take shape in front of her. She didn’t want to believe it. Her heart began pounding in her chest.191Please respect copyright.PENANA5tMgevqs0b
The shadow started small but then grew larger as it cast itself over the large boulder Alaska was trying to hide behind. The shadow overtook the boulder in size. Alaska noticed this and tried her best to keep her body still but to no avail. As the mysterious shadow began to grow, her body began to shake even more. It was an out-of-body experience. She wanted the shadow to go away but her eyes witnessed slowly how large it began to take shape. She knew something monstrous was behind her, but she refused to turn around and face it.191Please respect copyright.PENANAYkOAsOorhr
“Ok… ok… ok…” Alaska gulps while trying to stay focused on the sounds that are slowly getting louder behind her. She attempts to calm herself down and convince herself to turn around. Her breathing quickens with each second that goes by. She tries to turn her body in the direction of where the giant shadow is coming from, trying not to make a sound. Every joint in her body feels heavy and tense. As her entire body trembles uncontrollably, she keeps reassuring herself that it is nothing to be frightened of.191Please respect copyright.PENANAlkimMG7AYG
When she was finally able to get herself to turn around and face where the giant shadowy silhouette was coming from, she could see it. A massive reptilian beast that resembled a tyrannosaurus rex slowly made its way closer to her. Alaska gulps and is frozen in place as the creature towers over her. Its massive legs bend and flatten the small shrubs and push the foliage to the side. She could hear the beast breathing and making soft low sounding growling noises.191Please respect copyright.PENANA5AViTaL1pu
To her surprise, the beast has not reacted to her presence. Trying to keep as still and as quiet as possible is working. 191Please respect copyright.PENANAoXl4HvqaNl
“AHHhhhhahhhhhhh!!!!!!” Suddenly the silence of the jungle is broken by Ruog’s scream. He tries to cry out as loud as he can to get the monstrous creatures’ attention. He lifts his wooden staff in the air. The beast turns and lifts his head to see Ruog in the distance. Ruog notices Alaska by the large boulder, frozen in place. She turns her head to see Ruog standing far away with his wooden staff.191Please respect copyright.PENANAa3I6V7NoSZ
Alaska tries to move but she is as stiff as a board. Her heart continues to pound in her chest as she tries to move away from the massive beast slowly, trying to crawl away inch by inch. She tries not to make any sudden fast movements, drawing attention to herself.191Please respect copyright.PENANADjR7W5veAH
Alaska watches in horror as the beast lifts his head and looks down upon Ruog with its red eyes. Ruog did not want the beast to make its move toward Alaska. The beast’s blood began to boil with rage as its eyes focused on Ruog bellowing out at the top of his lungs. Saliva drips from the reptilian’s mouth. Its eyes pierce through Ruog with a menacing stare.191Please respect copyright.PENANAFpX6J60jpD
The creature screams out in rage and began charging straight toward Ruog, charging faster than Alaska had ever seen in her life. When it roars, Alaska covers her ears. Its blood-thirsty screech hurts her ears as she tries to keep herself calm. Alaska attempts to hold her cries of fear back as the creature’s full attention is now directly on Ruog.191Please respect copyright.PENANAtKqN4w96iN
Its massive body shook the ground with each step it took. At a full running pace, the sounds of the river could no longer be heard in Alaska’s ears. All she could hear was the frightening stomps of the massive reptilian beast. She could see its scaly spikes protruding from the top of its head, and the strong muscles in its legs flexing and bulging as it ran quickly toward Ruog. Alaska did not know what to do at that moment. Her eyes widened as she saw the giant blood-thirsty creature make its way toward Ruog. However, that’s exactly what Ruog wanted. Although she was scared for him, Ruog made eye contact with her in a quick instant. She knew from that moment what she needed to do. But she did not want to leave him.191Please respect copyright.PENANAuV5AbnWTv6
Although it was difficult for her, Alaska grips her staff, gets up, and runs from the area in the opposite direction of the giant reptilian beast as quickly as she could. As soon as she took two steps, she turned around to see Ruog. She knew that Ruog did all that to give her time to get out of there. But Alaska could not find it in her to just run off without knowing where he would be.191Please respect copyright.PENANAa0jmKBCL3P
Alaska turned back towards Ruog seeing him make a daring attempt to distract the beast. She saw the creature suddenly shifting its focus towards Ruog as it made a mad dash toward him. Ruog took a few steps forward and began to run toward the creature. Then Ruog jumped high into the air while trying to run towards the charging beast, hoping to distract the vicious creature or at least knock him to the side with his staff so that Alaska could have enough time to get away.191Please respect copyright.PENANA5H0Bta2Jqw
Suddenly the massive reptile stopped in its place and swung its mighty tail in Ruog’s direction. Ruog did not have time to react to the monstrous creature’s sudden attack. The creature's tail hit him with incredible force, while Ruog was in the air moving fast toward the beast. The creature’s tail knocked Ruog off his course and sent him flying in the opposite direction.191Please respect copyright.PENANATY46SU9Hfi
Ruog’s body slams down to the ground beneath him, hitting his head on the solid dirt. Alaska heard Ruog let out a yell of pain and fear. She couldn't believe what was happening. She felt her world had slowed to a crawl and her heart was pounding like crazy. "RUN!", Ruog yelled at her, his voice filled with pain. His vision was blurry when he hit the ground, but he could make out Alaska standing in the distance amongst the foliage frozen in place. He wanted desperately for her to run.191Please respect copyright.PENANA6imHBqTtt5
He soon notices that something was missing, his wooden staff. As he lies on the ground he searches for his weapon. The reptilian beast moves forward toward him menacingly. It was taking its time as if it enjoyed watching its prey struggle to survive.191Please respect copyright.PENANA9n53KsjgzZ
Ruog turns his body around, from his back to his stomach. That’s when he notices his staff, just a few inches in front of him. He slowly reaches for his wooden staff, trying to also catch his breath. His right-hand shakes uncontrollably as he stretches his arm forward. He desperately tried to grab the staff that was lying on the ground right in front of him.191Please respect copyright.PENANAk4sOIPdSlX
He tries to ignore the pain he felt in his chest. The blow from the creature’s tail knocked the wind right out of him, preventing him from getting up on time. He underestimated the agility of the beast’s movements. His only chance was to reach his weapon and defend himself from the vicious beast. He attempts to claw his left hand into the ground and use his strength to push himself forward and grab his staff, but it is too late.191Please respect copyright.PENANAPKBitcldNe
Ruog flips his body back onto his back to face the creature. The beast’s massive body towers over him as the creature lifts his gigantic foot and places it on top of Ruog’s leg. The creature pins Ruog down and lets out a screeching roar. Ruog screams in pain as his leg is crushed by the weight of the creature.191Please respect copyright.PENANACYFGabXIWD
Alaska could only watch in horror as the giant reptile towers above Ruog, pinning him with its foot. She sees Ruog struggling, trying to free himself, but to no avail. The creature lets out another deafening roar, its breath is putrid and makes Alaska's eyes water. She feels her chest tighten with fear as the situation becomes more and more desperate. She grabs her staff, gripping it tightly in her hand, wondering what she can do to help. The creature pauses for a moment. It scans the surrounding area. The massive beast turns to look at Alaska as if sensing her presence. Alaska could see its large sharp teeth dripping with saliva.191Please respect copyright.PENANApg2AfM2gig
Thinking about what she could do to help, Alaska suddenly breaks her focus from the creature. In the distance Alaska noticed something. She noticed Ruog’s animal-skinned bag. She remembered that he had constructed a bow and was carrying it with a handful of arrows. She ran desperately with everything she had, trying to get to the bag as quickly as she could. 191Please respect copyright.PENANAHn1c1SLLft
The creature examines its prey. Ruog grits his teeth and screams out from the pain in his leg, the full weight of the creature pushing down on his leg is beginning to be too much for him. Alaska could feel her heartbeat pounding in her chest and blood rushing in her ears. As she approached Ruog’s bag, she saw the bow and arrows and grabbed them. Her hands were still shaking but she knew what she was doing.191Please respect copyright.PENANAiPXroKvzNw
The monstrous reptile notices Alaska again moving around. Alaska could see the anger in the massive creature’s eyes as she prepared her aim with the arrow. Once the creature made eye contact with hers, it let out a deafening roar, its mouth wide open, revealing its sharp teeth dripping with saliva. It was trying to intimidate her. But Alaska was not backing down. She was not going to run away knowing that Ruog needed her help.191Please respect copyright.PENANAMXxdEIikQs
Alaska steadied herself and she could hear Ruog shouting from a distance, telling her to run away. But she couldn't, she couldn't leave him. She thought of all the things he’s done for her up until that point. There was no way she could live with the thought of leaving him in such a dire moment. To Alaska, Ruog meant everything to her. He was the reason she was alive. He was the reason she could survive in the jungle. Ruog was the strong father she’d always wanted growing up. This was her moment to prove that she was deserving of such a great friend.191Please respect copyright.PENANADdEisOZ4SI
She pulled back on the bow with an arrow ready to launch. She closed one eye to aim toward the creature’s chest. Alaska knew that missing this shot was not an option. If she did, it could mean the end for Ruog. She shot at the creature with all her might. Alaska saw the arrow fly high. It cuts through the air with ease at an incredible velocity piercing the creature's chest. For a moment the giant reptile flinched. "ALASKA, RUN!" Ruog screamed again.191Please respect copyright.PENANABJ3b5F8Bu5
The beast lets out a deafening roar as it writhes in pain. The creature's grip loosens, and Ruog seizes the opportunity to free himself. He rolls out from under the beast and jumps back to his feet. He makes his way quickly to his staff, grabbing it and turning around to face the massive beast. He ignores the pain he feels in his leg and takes a fighting stance. 191Please respect copyright.PENANAEU5ziRapZc
“Get away Alaska! You can not fight this thing! It’s a Zycmagna! RUN AWAY NOW!” Alaska had no idea what a Zycmagna was, but she did not want to stick around and find out any further. Now that Ruog was back on his feet, Alaska was confident that he could easily get away. And with those words, Alaska grabs Ruog’s bag, turned around, and ran with all her might along the river.191Please respect copyright.PENANACirqsgnVhS
The Zycmagna could sense the arrow sticking out of its chest. While Alaska ran away, its eyes began to follow her movements. Ruog noticed this and started to scream again at the top of his lungs to get the creature to pay attention to him instead.191Please respect copyright.PENANAEjLtcgB7iM
Blood began dripping from the creature’s wound. It uses its massive claws to rip the arrow out of its chest, tossing the arrow to the ground. Some blood rushed out of the wound as soon as it did that.191Please respect copyright.PENANA7Ku7j2aV19
The Zycmagna turned his attention to Ruog who was waving and screaming to get the massive beast's attention. The reptile, now wounded and enraged, turns and charges at Ruog. But Ruog is swift and agile. He dodges the beast's every attack, striking it with his wooden staff at every opportunity. The two engage in a dance of death, with Ruog narrowly avoiding the creature's massive claws and teeth.191Please respect copyright.PENANAZT2KoEgHCp
As the fight progresses, Ruog begins to feel the tide turning in his favor. As soon as Alaska was out of sight, he thought of a way to get out of there. Ruog knew this was not an easy fight. The more the fight draws out the more energy Ruog was using trying to keep the creature from piercing its claws into his chest. However, Ruog notices that the creature's movements are becoming slower and more labored.191Please respect copyright.PENANAeO1XCrtjmT
This was Ruog’s chance to escape. Ruog prepared himself mentally for what he was about to pull off. If it didn’t work, he would end up as food for the massive Zycmagna.191Please respect copyright.PENANAkJezhwG7NB
As Alaska ran, she suddenly stopped in her tracks. Something wasn’t right. She wondered if Ruog was able to defeat the creature, or at least get away from it. Her stomach was in knots as she felt her heart race. Tears came to her eyes wondering what she would do if Ruog did not come out of this alive. She looked back from the area she was running from. But the jungle was so dense she could not make out the Ruog or the Zycmagna.191Please respect copyright.PENANAeXUjZZKyqY
Alaska gulps and wipes the sweat from her forehead. She tries to calm her heart and control her rapid breathing. She, out of anyone, knew Ruog’s abilities. She tries to convince herself that everything will be alright, that Ruog will be fine, and that they both will walk away from this alive. “Don’t die on me… please….”
Alaska could only wait and see. The minutes that went by felt like hours to her.191Please respect copyright.PENANAwAScyIXZwI
Ruog readied himself for one final attack. "Now!" Ruog shouted as he charged the Zycmagna. He was quick enough to keep the beast's mouth at bay, allowing him to jump up and stab the creature’s exposed arrow wound with his long staff. With his body weight and the momentum in his movement, he penetrates the tip of his staff deep within the reptile’s bloody flesh wound.191Please respect copyright.PENANAlLlKOvxfNO
The creature steps back in immense pain. It lets out a roar that echoes wildly throughout the jungle.“RAAAAWWwwwwaaaarrrrrrr!!!”191Please respect copyright.PENANA4ZEWpjVSaL
“AHhhhhahhahhhhhhahhahhh!!!”191Please respect copyright.PENANAIuDCRHVqvt
Alaska gasps as she hears not only the Zycmagna’s blood-curdling roar but also Ruog’s scream. She covers her mouth and shakes her head. Tears come rolling down her face as she imagines the worst. Then there was dead silence in the jungle. Alaska's lips trembled and she stood there wondering if Ruog was alright. She drops Ruog’s bag and her staff on the ground and falls to her knees.
