After Dinner, Kanita put the trolley outside her room. It was 8:00 pm. In bed, she typed her story with no worry or fear.
All three windows were opened. Then she heard caw caw.
Kanita raised face up and saw a crow was in her window. She tried to chase it away but it did not listen to her. Until she walked towards it, it agreed to fly away.
“I should close the windows.”
As she was about to pull the window’s sheets, she saw in the yard, next to the tree, there was someone standing there.
Kanita looked carefully.
“Ah, yeah,” she said and wagged her head.
It was the red skeleton, the one that had scared her at first night.
After she was haunted several nights, she felt no more scared. Instead, she watched it as she considered it to be a kind of horror movie’s scene.
The red skeleton, which was red like the roasted pig’s bones, was higher than the tree. It stood by facing itself to slice the moon. It didn’t reveal any sound - looked like it was romancing the moon. From the shape of the figure, Kanita could sense that the ghost was surely a male.
In a sudden, it disappeared.
“Where is he?”
Though he tried to look, she could not find even his shadow.
“Well, the movie is paused,” she said before she pulled the sheets of each window to each other.
Before going to bed, she had to take a shower. Because the water drops were loud, she didn’t hear the sound of the door open. When she finished, she wore her sleeping robe and stood by the sink to brush her teeth. At first it was only her reflection in the mirror over the sink; after she gargled and raised her face up, she saw the red ghost lady standing next to her.
“Ooh,” she said as her toothbrush dropped from her hand.
Seeing that the ghost lady expanded her lips; her mind saw Kanita was afraid. It was a danger but Kanita was smart, she sensed what the ghost lady was thinking, so she tried to change the story.
“What is that?”
She made her face closer to the mirror and acted like she was scanning her face.
“I was scared,” she said and put her palm on her chest and exhaled. “I thought it was acne.” Then she picked up the toothbrush that fell into the sink to clean and continued brushing her teeth.
The reflection of the ghost lady was still visible in the mirror, and Kanita tried to tell herself to ignore her.
Since the ghost lost a few nights already, she didn’t want to lose it again tonight. She moved her stance to behind Kanita and very close to her. She looked through the mirror and her eyes were focusing on the action and expression of Kanita and Kanita was still acting like she didn’t see anything. A few seconds later, with a scary smile on lips, the ghost lady opened her mouth wide, so wide, revealing her teeth like a tooth-line of cutting wood before she made face lower till her chin was close to Kanita’s shoulder. Who would not be scared? The fright was very much inside Kanita’s mind; however, thanks to herself that kept reminding herself, ‘don’t care, don’t care’ made her able to remain her behavior before the eyes of the scary and tricky ghost.
Seeing that, the ghost was very angry. She told herself that she didn’t believe she could not scare Kanita, so she put her sharp teeth on the shoulder of Kanita in an action to bite it. Still, Kanita carried on cleaning her teeth with don’t care facial expression till she felt her teeth was already cleaned, then she poured water into her mouth to wash the tooth paste as a final work.
Even though the ghost lady kept opening her mouth and Kanita still held on to her brave action by organizing the teeth cleaning materials then rotated her body in an act that she would walk to take the towel that was hanging on the wall behind her. With this act, it meant a part of her body would hit some part of the ghost lady. It was a riskful action, but Kanita didn’t have any better option. Luckily when she was about to step her feet, there was a loud sound of the crows, and the ghost disappeared immediately.
“Phew,” Kanita blew from her mouth. ‘It was fortunate.’ She thought in her mind. ‘Thanks to the crow.’26Please respect copyright.PENANAW5r7KpiqlM
