I turn on the music in our apartment to our song: "I honestly love you" by Olivia Newton-John and I take her in my arms. 755Please respect copyright.PENANA1xHocRLwWp
"Elizabeth?" I call her name.
"Yes, Joshua?" She asks, looking at me with those beautiful deep rich chocolate brown eyes.
I smile and my heart thumps in my chest. God, after everything that happened today on that case, there's so much that I want to tell her. After almost losing her, I really began to feel. 755Please respect copyright.PENANATQXUOHIW25
"I love you," I tell her.
She smiles.
"I know you do," She replies.
I shake my head and hold her closer to my body as my once cold heart warms up. With her, I feel more open about my emotions, something that I never let happen before as a CIA Agent. I had told her that I loved her once before, but that was when I was still undercover, trying to convince her that I was the good guy at first. But now because of her, I am that good guy.
"No, I mean...Elizabeth, I honestly love you," I tell her again.
Elizabeth pulls away, unsure of what to say to me. An uncomfortable silence falls between us as the music continues.
"Uhm...well...really?" She asks me.
"Really. I honestly love you. Look, I'm not trying to make you feel uncomfortable or anything really. But I've got to tell you, I've never had these feelings before for anyone. But you...you've changed all that," I tell her.
She just looks at me with those big beautiful eyes. Her perfectly pink shaped lips purse together and I can tell...she's trying to hide her obvious feelings for me.
"Joshua...what about before? I thought that I could trust you at first. I opened up to you until you were exposed as the double agent. I...I don't know how to feel right now about this," She replies.
I stop the music for a moment and go over to the partition that opens to the balcony. We walk out together and look out at the stars that twinkle in the sky. I take her small rough calloused hands in to my own.
"Look, Elizabeth, I know you. I know you possibly better than you know yourself. Despite the fact that yes, I was a double agent, I truly did fall in love with you over time. And I know you did as well. Darling, it's okay to open up your heart to me. You don't need to be afraid of it," I speak softly to her.
Elizabeth sighs and tears trickle down her cheeks.
"You're right, you do know me pretty well. It's hard to keep closed off from you. You...you bring that to the table. You keep me honest and open. Before you, I didn't want to have feelings for anyone. I was afraid of getting hurt again," Elizabeth replies.
I turn the music back on from where I stopped it before. My hand shakes slightly as I reach in to my pocket.
"I'll tell you something right now, something that will put your mind at ease. These feelings...they're not coming from my head. I'm not overthinking this. They're coming from my heart instead."
"Joshua...really?" She asks, a grin on her face.
I nod. I see her take a deep breath.
"You're right. I have been overthinking this. But when I stop doing that, I realize something. This is pure...and simple. Oh my god...Joshua...I love you too. Like...I honestly do love you," Elizabeth says.
Tears trickle down her beautiful fair skin as she smiles. I can tell now that she's happy that she finally admitted it. My heart flutters and she hugs me tightly. I lightly kiss the top of her forehead.
"Elizabeth Jane Striker..." I say her full name.
In that moment, I see in her eyes that she flatlines when I speak her full name as I get down on one knee and pull out the ring box and open it to reveal a simple white gold ring.
"Will you marry me?"
She looks stunned for a moment, then the biggest, happiest smile spreads across her face.
"Yes! Of course I will!" She cries.
I smile and laugh at her reaction. It was definitely what I was hoping for. Getting off my knee, I pull her in to my arms, hugging her tightly, then we share a kiss. Breaking the hold slightly, I slip the ring on her finger.
"It fits perfectly," I grin.
"How did you get my ring size?" She asks, still smiling.
"I uh...I went through your file," I admit, a bit embarrassed.
She laughs and it brings joy to my heart. I look at her again and we come back inside to finish our dance to Olivia Newton-John.
As we hold each other close, we sing along to the rest of the song, with the words that express so deeply to us what we would never have used to say as stone cold Agents.
"I honestly love you"
END.
