With Nate’s latest invention completed, Red Fury Mode, powered by the Fury Cell we’d taken from Tubatron 2.0, Devon and I decided to take a leisurely jog. It was a rare moment of tranquility, a chance to clear our minds and enjoy the simple pleasure of being outside. I glanced over at Devon, his easygoing smile mirroring my own.
"Feels good to get out and stretch our legs," I remarked.
Devon nodded, his breath coming in steady rhythm. "Definitely. It's a nice break from battling Robotrons and Gigadrones."
Our conversation was interrupted by a sudden commotion nearby. We both turned our heads just in time to see a small commotion around a table where Ben and Betty were setting up a birthday cake for their father, General Burke. We approached them, curious about the scene unfolding before us. The cake looked impressive – a masterpiece adorned with intricate decorations and vibrant colors.
Ben looked up and grinned. "Hey, Kali, Devon. Check out the cake we got for Dad's birthday."
"Yeah, it's got all his favorite flavors. We've been planning this for weeks,” Betty chimed in, her excitement evident. As we admired the cake, an urgent alarm echoed through the air. Our heads snapped in the direction of the sound, our instincts kicking in. We exchanged a glance, and without a word, we took off running towards the source of the alarm.
Our hearts pounded as we reached the scene – a bank robbery in progress. A criminal was fleeing with a bag of money, his footsteps echoing through the street. Devon's eyes narrowed, determination evident in his gaze. Before I could say anything, Devon's body began to shimmer with a red energy, morphing into the Red Ranger with the Fury Mode power-up. He surged forward, his movements faster and more powerful than ever before.
I followed closely behind him, running with all my might. I was eager to help apprehend the criminal, even though I hadn't morphed into the Yellow Ranger. Devon's enhanced speed and strength were awe-inspiring as he closed the distance between us and the fleeing robber. However, just as we were gaining on him, the criminal reached a getaway car parked nearby. He jumped into the driver's seat, the engine roaring to life. I watched as Devon lifted the car off the ground effortlessly, immobilizing it with sheer force.
As the scene unfolded, a cop arrived on the scene, his eyes widening at the sight of the Red Ranger and the floating car. He approached us cautiously, his hand resting on his weapon. "Put the car down and step away!" the cop ordered.
Devon complied, gently placing the car back on the ground. The cop turned his attention to the criminal, his voice stern. "You're under arrest!"
The criminal glared at us, defeat evident in his eyes as he surrendered. Meanwhile, the cop noticed the mess left behind – a birthday cake toppled onto the ground, ruined by his pursuit of justice.
As the situation was resolved and the criminal was taken into custody, the cop's attention shifted to the scattered cake on the ground. He looked conflicted for a moment, torn between his duty and the regrettable collateral damage. Devon and I shared a knowing look, both of us silently acknowledging the situation. We had thwarted a crime, but it came at a cost – one that was felt by Ben and Betty, who had worked so hard to create the perfect birthday celebration for their father.
Before we could offer any consolation, a familiar voice crackled over the communicator. It was Commander Shaw's assistant, reporting another incident that required our attention.
"Rangers, Tronics are attacking the city. Get to the location immediately."
Devon's gaze locked onto mine. Without hesitation, we sprinted back into action, leaving behind the aftermath of our earlier pursuit. We had a responsibility to protect the city, and we were prepared to do whatever it took to ensure its safety.

The plaza had transformed into a battleground once again as we joined the others to battle the incoming Tronics. Devon's presence was a sight to behold, his enhanced power making him an unstoppable force against our enemies.
His strikes were swift and powerful, each move calculated for maximum impact. The Red Fury Mode had given him an edge, but it was evident that he relished the attention and the opportunity to show off.
Devon’s been a bit different lately. It normally isn’t like him to show off. Even chasing the criminal earlier, we could’ve helped without him morphing.
I fought alongside my teammates, the urgency of the battle eclipsing the cake incident. However, amidst the chaos, my attention was drawn to a familiar figure – Roxy. She was there, seemingly orchestrating the situation, and beside her, a new creation took form – Burnertron.
While Devon confronted Roxy and Burnertron, the rest of us struggled to fend off the Tronics. Our efforts were united, but I couldn't help but feel a sense of unease. Devon's battle with Burnertron was fierce and intense, his focus unwavering. But something caught my attention – the Fury Cell that Roxy held in her hand. It was another one of those powerful energy sources, and it was clear that she intended to use it to her advantage.
I rushed forward, my movements swift and determined. I reached Roxy just as she attempted to integrate the Fury Cell into Burnertron. With a surge of energy, I knocked the Fury Cell out of her hand, sending it tumbling across the ground. The move was unexpected, and for a moment, Roxy looked stunned.
"Give that back!" she snarled, her eyes narrowing with fury. But I wasn't about to let her regain control of the situation. My instincts took over as I lunged for the fallen energy source, my fingers brushing against its surface.
Before I could fully grasp it, Devon arrived on the scene, snatching the Fury Cell from the ground. His actions surprised me. Seeing an opportunity, I intervened. "Devon, be careful! The Fury Cell is changing you!" I warned him.
My warning went unheeded as Devon activated the Red Fury Mode once again, summoning the Cheetah Claws. His movements were confident, his determination unyielding. But Roxy unleashed a barrage of blaster fire, attempting to halt his advance. The rest of the team had joined the fray, our combined efforts creating a united front against the enemy. But it was clear that Devon was in his element, displaying his newfound power with every move.
The situation became even more chaotic as the battle raged on, each side struggling for control. Burnertron unleashed waves of fire, forcing us to keep our distance. As the battle reached its peak, Devon's Fury Cell energy finally depleted. The Red Fury Mode dissipated, leaving him vulnerable. The sudden shift in power caught him off guard, and he found himself surrounded by his concerned teammates. The Fury Cell had granted him strength, but it had also changed him – and not for the better. It was a stark reminder that power came with consequences, and sometimes, those consequences were difficult to control.
Back at Grid Battleforce, the team gathered in the lab. Nate had been working diligently to analyze the effects of the Fury Mode and the Fury Cell on Devon. As he shared his findings, I exchanged worried glances with my teammates. "The Fury Cell's energy is unstable," Nate explained. "It grants immense power, but it also alters brain chemistry. Devon's behavior changed as a result, making him more impulsive and reckless."
Zoey's concern was evident as she looked at Devon. "We have to find a way to help him."
Nate nodded, his expression determined. "I have an idea. We need to remove the Fury Cell's effects and stabilize its energy."
Devon was clearly frustrated, his fists clenched. "I can handle it. I just need to be more careful."
"Devon, you can't control it. The consequences could be permanent,” Nate's voice was firm. Despite Nate's warnings, he was reluctant to give up the power that had been so effective against our enemies. But the risk was too great, and he needed to understand that.
“Dev…please. This isn’t like you,” I tried to convince him.
“I’ll be fine. Stop worrying about me,” he said before he stormed out of the lab, clearly frustrated and conflicted. His footsteps echoed down the hallway, leaving us in a tense silence. We exchanged worried glances, each of us grappling with our own concerns.
Nate's gaze remained fixed on the doorway, his expression troubled. "I need to analyze his DNA to better understand the effects of the Fury Cell."
As Nate focused on his work, I couldn't shake the sense of unease that hung in the air. Devon's journey was a reminder that power had its limits and that controlling it was often more challenging than obtaining it. “I think I know where Devon’s going. You guys coming with me?” I asked. Ravi, Zoey and Steel nodded but Nate said he’d stay and work on figuring out the mystery behind the Fury Cell.
—————
I led my friends to the Riptide Gym. Sure enough, Devon was there. I noticed he seemed very impatient waiting for whatever he ordered. The rest of us sat down at a table. “Guys, I’m really worried about Devon. I’ve never seen him like this. It isn’t like him at all,” I commented quietly.
“I agree, and I haven’t even known him as long as you have,” Zoey said. I then noticed that Devon got his drink and went to go challenge some karate students.
That’s not like him, either. I mean, yeah he used to be a little bit of a show off when we first met but he got better as he got to know me and I got to know him.
Ben then greeted us, setting a new cake for his father’s birthday at his table. Unfortunately, Devon accidentally knocked the fellow karate student into the table. The cake slid into the chair just as Betty arrived and unknowingly sat on the cake. “Hey Ben, I thought you were getting dad’s cake,” she commented and Ben sighed.
“You’re…sitting on it,” he replied.
“Guys, I have test results from the strand of hair I pulled from Devon earlier. You might want to come see this,” Nate said over our coms.
“On our way,” I replied. We then went to get Devon. Reluctantly, he handed back the staff to the karate student and came with us.
Back at Grid Battleforce, our unease accompanied us like a shadow. The atmosphere in the lab was thick with apprehension. Nate’s voice wavered with concern as he explained the results of testing Devon's DNA, a process that had evidently annoyed our fiery leader. His findings confirmed our fears – the Fury Mode was changing Devon, and worse, these changes might be permanent.
I exchanged glances with Ravi, Zoey, and Steel, all of us silently grappling with the gravity of the situation. We couldn't bear to see Devon losing himself to this power, to the point where Nate felt compelled to physically intervene.
Nate moved closer to Devon, his hand steady as he attempted to remove the Fury Cell from our friend. The tension in the room reached its peak as Devon steadfastly refused. "Nate, I get what you're saying, but this is our best shot. We can't afford to hold back against Evox,” Devon argued, his voice tinged with desperation.
Nate, his eyes filled with worry, replied, "Devon, it's changing you, and it could be permanent. We can't just ignore this."
But Devon remained resolute. "We can't ignore the threat Evox poses either. We need every advantage we can get. If you guys won’t fight with me, I’ll fight Evox alone,” he said before leaving again.
Before any of us could go after him, Commander Shaw's assistant's voice broke through the deadlock. A distress call had come in – Tronics were attacking a location in the city. The urgency of the situation forced us to put our internal conflicts aside, at least temporarily. “Go, Rangers. We’ll worry about Devon later,” the Commander instructed and we nodded before running out.
Ravi, Zoey, Nate, Steel, and I donned our Ranger suits, the familiar surge of power coursing through us. The streets were a battleground, Tronics wreaking havoc wherever they went. Then, with a sense of dread, I noticed that Roxy held another Fury Cell, the last one we knew of. Panic surged through me. If she used that cell, it would be disastrous. We needed to stop her from powering up her forces. “Guys! Roxy has another Fury Cell! We have to destroy it!” I told the others.
Desperation fueled our attempts to snatch the Fury Cell from Roxy's hand, but she countered with a powerful blast that sent us sprawling. Just when it seemed all hope was lost, Devon appeared, knocking the Fury Cell from Roxy's grasp. Relief washed over us momentarily, but it was short-lived. As Devon reached for the Fury Cell on the ground, I couldn't allow him to claim it. My body moved on its own, stepping in to intercept him. I couldn't let him fall into that dangerous temptation. Luckily, I was able to snatch it before he did.
“Don’t, Dev! This isn’t you. Please…I don’t want to lose you…” I begged, thankful that my helmet hid my face as tears threatened to escape my eyes.
