“Kill the Rangers however you wish. That is your main mission,” Master Evox replied.
“As you command. I will make sure they suffer,” I said as I stood.
What am I doing? It's like I’m not in control of myself anymore!
“Roxy and Blaze will go with you. They’ll do whatever you tell them,” Evox added.
“Wait, take orders from her? She just joined us! Are we even sure we can fully trust her yet?” Roxy complained.
“Silence! You will do as she says or it will be you she kills first,” Evox shut Roxy and Blaze up quick.
We teleported out and to the plaza. “You two lure them out, then I’ll jump in and kill them,” I told them. They called the Tronics, grumbling about having to listen to me and started causing chaos. Just as predicted, the Rangers soon showed up. I used my morpher to disguise my voice as I let them get all the way to almost beating Blaze and Roxy simply for the fun of it, then I ran out and attacked the Red Ranger with my Wolf Saber.
“Another Ranger!?” Red asked, shocked.
“Not just any Ranger. I’m the one who will kill all three of you!” I replied as I fought him, my voice deeper than normal.
“But how…why?” Red asked, and I took his momentary distraction to slash at his chest. He fell back as Blue and Yellow rushed to his side. I saw Blaze and Roxy teleport away.
Cowards.
“Master Evox gave me this power, and because I’m not an Avatar like those weaklings Roxy and Blaze, I’m much stronger,” I told them as I rushed at them again. We fought for a few minutes and I was almost able to kill them, but they managed to retreat successfully. I teleported back home and reported in.
“Ha! You weren’t able to kill the Rangers either!” Roxy taunted me as I demorphed.
“It was only my first time. The two of you have been here longer than me and you still haven’t managed to kill them,” I taunted back. Blaze was about to respond when Evox silenced them.
“We still have an advantage. The Rangers don’t know who you are yet. Keep it that way. Gather intel in civilian mode. Find out all you can about Grid Battleforce and when the time is right, we’ll attack when they least expect it,” he explained and I nodded.
“It will be done, Master Evox,” I replied and teleported back out.
Maybe I can break this somehow…I can’t…let myself hurt them anymore…
I froze outside the gym for a few moments when my phone rang; it was Devon. I answered it.
“Hey Kali, where are you? Are ya coming to the gym today?” he asked.
“Yeah I just got here.”
“Alright, see ya in a few moments.”
I walked inside and greeted my friends. I noticed that Devon seemed to be in pain but trying to hide it. I caught glimpses of bruises and scratches on Zoey and Ravi, too.
Well now I have no doubt in my mind that they’re the Rangers. I have to tell them…they can help me. Nate said he was a scientist at Grid Battleforce, there’s gotta be something there that can reverse whatever Evox did to me.
“Hey guys, what’s up?” I asked, trying to be casual as I sat down next to Dev.
“Not much. Just hanging out,” Zoey replied.
Now’s my chance to let them know.
“Cool. Hey, wanna go to Grid Battleforce today?” I asked.
No! That’s the last thing I want to do! Why can’t I tell them? Ugh I wish someone could read my thoughts!
They hesitated a little. “Well…we were just there, helping Nate in the lab,” Ravi answered.
“Yeah…and I’m a little beat from karate this morning. I was thinking we could just hang out like we used to do after our karate class all the time,” Devon added.
Yes! Okay, at least it’s a good thing they don’t want to go to Grid Battleforce. Still, it’s awful not being able to hang out as myself.
I remembered that Master Evox told me to lay low for a while and gather intel. The five of us sat around talking for a while. I didn’t really learn anything useful yet. After a couple hours, Zoey, Ravi and Nate had to leave.
“Want me to walk you home?” Devon asked me.
“If you’re feeling up to it.”
He smiled a little. “Of course. I can handle a little walk.”
Dev, I’ve known you long enough to see that you’re hurt, and it doesn’t help that it was by my hand.
“Alright, thanks,” I smiled.
When we got to my parent’s, we said goodbye then I went in. Luckily, my parents were still at work. I took this time to go report back to Master Evox.
Time skip
After weeks of gathering intel and fighting the Rangers, the time had come. Evox told me to get into Grid Battleforce and plant an audio bug in the lab, command room, and anywhere else I thought would be beneficial. Then, I would upload a virus directly into the computers that would allow him to control the zords. All had gone according to plan-keeping the Rangers distracted long enough for me to do everything. However, just as I finished uploading the virus, some guards discovered me.
“Freeze!” they ordered. I smirked and morphed. The fight didn’t last long. I knocked one out and killed the other easily. I froze when I was about to kill the last guard.
No! I-I…can’t let…myself do that again…
Before I could finish the job, I heard more guards coming. I quickly teleported away back home. “Job complete, Master Evox. Two guards got in the way. I killed one and knocked out the other but before I could finish the job I heard more people coming so I got out of there,” I explained.
“Excellent. Now to take control of the zords. Scrozzle, is the virus ready?” Evox asked.
“Yes.”
“Then release the Gigadrone.”
“Morphing Beta Model into Meltadrone!”
Then Scrozzle activated the audio bugs I planted and we immediately heard frantic voices.
“Commander, the zords aren’t responding!”
“Nate, we need you to run diagnostics on the zords.”
“It’ll take a few minutes.”
“Wait, they’re coming online now but I’m not doing anything!”
“Who’s controlling them, then? Nate?”
“Not me but I’m working on trying to find out who.”
There were a few moments of silence before the commander spoke again.
“Get back to base, Devon. There’s nothing you can do to stop the zords’ rampage until we regain control.”
I knew it! I have to figure out a way to break this hold Evox somehow has on me even if it’s just for a moment to tell the Rangers. I wish there was something I could do to help stop the zords now…but I have faith in Nate that he’ll figure it out.
“Commander! I found what’s causing the zords to go crazy. A virus was uploaded into the systems via the computers!” Nate’s voice said after a few minutes.
Yes! Awesome job Nate!
“No! They discovered it sooner than I had anticipated,” Scrozzle said, voicing the opposite of what I felt.
“But how did it get there?” Ravi then asked.
“It had to be an inside job,” Nate replied.
“We’ll worry about that later. We need our zords to fight the Gigadrone,” Devon said. The Rangers fought and defeated the Gigadrone.
“There’s no need at the moment for you to return to Grid Battleforce, and you may have been compromised. You will stay here for a while until we learn if the Rangers learn who you are or not,” Evox told me after.
“But what does it matter if they know who I am? They can’t stop me. I can still finish my mission and kill them,” I protested.
“Silence! Roxy and Blaze will continue to gather Morph X. I still need a lot before I can focus on building a new body.”
Out of the corner of my eye, I saw Roxy and Blaze snicker. I rolled my eyes. “Fine. I guess I’ll just go exploring the Cyber Dimension then,” I said as I walked away. After I did a little exploring, my stomach growled.
“Well, there’s nothing I can eat here. I’ll just go grab something in Coral Harbor.”
I demorphed and teleported out of the Cyber Dimension.
Meanwhile…
“Are you sure you can’t remember who it was that attacked you?” Devon asked the guard.
“I… wait, it was a young girl… I think.”
“This isn’t going anywhere, Devon. Let’s just let the poor guy rest. Don’t worry, we’ll catch whoever did this and killed the other guard,” Zoey said, as she put a gentle hand on his shoulder and he sighed. The two of them left and went back to Grid Battleforce.
“Anything to report?” the commander asked.
“Nothing reliable, he thinks it may have been a young girl,” Zoey answered.
“A young girl? That’s broad. Just how young? It would be like finding a needle in a haystack without more to go off of,” Ravi commented.
“We’ll figure it out. She can’t hide forever. Sooner or later, we will find her,” Devon said, clenching his fists.
