Everyone met up in their spot and got ready to sneak away, Scarlet wanted to take one of the baby sorhebi that was not bonded to but Octavia reminded her that they would probably notice one missing so Scarlet gave up on the idea.
They took a small nap while waiting for the right time to go, once it was time Octavia woke everyone and said “Alright it's time”.She looked at Liam with pity and moved on to everyone else touching them gently to wake them up.
They all packed up and started to move through the bushes, the guards had left as they predicted and as they headed toward freedom out of nowhere two sorhebi with riders landed in front of their group and growled as they assumed a fighting stance.
They all gasped and jumped back in response, Octavia sighed and grimaced as she stood up and went over to join the two riders and Scarlet joined her as well, liam looked up shocked, and tried to figure out why until it hit him.
His face darkened and he said, “So this was a setup? Why should I be surprised that you would plot against me but Scarlet? Why would you”. Scarlet looked at Liam with sadness and said “We had to, you were thinking about escaping but we only want to survive..”.Laim interrupted her and said, “I don't want to survive I want to live, and they are keeping us captive for some stupid war”.
Rida appeared and walked to Scarlet and Octavia and looked at Laim, she said: “Look you are traitors and you tried to escape, luckily Octavia told me in time making herself an ally to us but you made yourself a traitor, I won't kill you but you will be forced to earn our trust again”.
Octavia looked away in shame and decided to walk back to the camp while the guards threw the boys in prison. Scarlet wanted to walk with her but one of the guards offered her a ride on the sorhebi so she could not resist.
Octavia walked by herself and started thinking about Liam, the way she betrayed him stung her in the heart. They have been so much together already and they grew up together but she could not help betraying him for the greater good.
She could hear scarlet cries of joy in the air, she suspected she was riding the sorhebi. Octavia decided to take her mind off of Liam and think about sorhebi, she wanted one so bad but she did not wanna ask.
Rida appeared outta nowhere and almost made Octavia punch her in the face, octavia tensed and said “What do you want?”. Rida smiled and said “To say thank you for not escaping and telling me”, Octavia slightly smiled back and said, “You're welcome”.
Laim and Charlie were thrown into prison and Charlie spoke up after a little while, “Well Octavia was just doing what she thought was right, don't blame her too hard”.
Laim did not say anything and just sat there replaying the hurtful scene of Octavia walking over to the landing sorhebi. Laim asked Charlie, “Hey what about Draco? Your sorhebi”, Charlie smiled and turned to him and said, “They are fed fruits that calm them down when something like this happens”.
Liam nodded and asked, “So how can I get a sorhebi? I mean do you… like how do you bond with one?”.Charlie said, “Well usually you have to bond with a newborn, bonding with a newborn is a little painful but it's worth it, if you want one you will have to get access to the nursery but I doubt you could”.
Liam nodded and started to walk around the edges of the prison seeing if there was any weak link, he did that for about ten minutes or so before he found a small crack in the corner. He started to chip away at it with a tool he carried everywhere, it was a tiny pick he got from his father.
He would begin to chip away whenever the guards would switch out, this gave him and Charlie hope of escaping.
Scarlet was thrilled to be on a sorhebi and cried out in excitement when they went faster and did loopy loops. The boy who gave her a ride was named Max, he was about sixteen but was a very experienced rider.
Once they slowed down Scarlet asked, “So can you bond with any animal or just sorhebi?”.Max explained to Scarlet “Well yes you can but some animals are harder to bond to, some you have to fight to gain a bond and some you have to raise out of the egg, It is different for every animal but it's nice to be bonded to something else”.
Scarlet nodded and when they got to the camp she jumped off and asked, “so how do you get a sorhebi? can you just go get one or do we have to go through some special training?”.
Max got off and petted his sorhebi, “well you do have to be trusted and you do have to go ask Rida but when she says yes you go to a special training facility you and your sorhebi will train together in for about three years growing your bond”.
Scarlet nodded and was a little surprised it took so long to train with one but she felt like it was probably worth it. So she went to Rida's tent and waited there for her, she was a little excited but kinda scared because she wanted one.
She was waiting for about twenty min before she saw Rida and Octavia show up, octavia just went into the tent without even looking at Scarlet. Rida asked her what she wanted and Scarlet said “Well I was wondering if I could maybe get a sorhebi?”.
Octavia saw Scarlet waiting for them but she did not have the heart to talk to her so she just went in and threw herself on the couch and tried to fall asleep but she could not help hearing Scarlet and Rida's conversation.
Rida was saying “Well I can always check with the nursery to see what they have, it is a three-year training though just to warn you”.Octavia kinda perked up and was curious about getting one too but she did not want to intercept their conversation so she just listened.
She heard Scarlet saying “Well I would not mind it but only Octavia can come with I don't know about Liam and how that would work, we are like brothers and sisters”.
Rida replied, “Well we would have to keep Liam here for the time being, but I do need Octavia so you would have to go by yourself, unless you wanna try raising your sorhebi here but do not recommend it”.
The rest faded out as she felt herself falling asleep, she soon woke up and looked around. She lifted herself and rubbed her eyes dragging herself outta bed she smelled something terrible and then realized it was herself and she saw Rida get up, Octavia asked “Hey so where do you take showers or baths?”.
Rida yawned and stretched out and said “Oh yeah, there is a lake we use its about a mile from here south, beware there might be others there, I was gonna head there myself”.
Octavia looked confused and asked “Wait all bathed together? In the same lake?”, Rida looked like she was gonna laugh at her. Rida explained, “Yes? that's pretty normal, we respect one another bodies girls and boys are separated lakes”.
Octavia sighed in relief and went through rides clothes to see what would fit her, she found the perfect baggy shirt and sweatpants to wear so she said goodbye and headed to the lake.
Liam had chipped away a lot considering how small the tool was, he almost broke through to the other side, and Charlie helped him by taking turns when one of them got tired.
They smiled at one another, they were not official or anything, they had not even kissed. Liam wanted to kiss him but he had no idea how to, so he passed the first move to Charlie. He was very flirty with Charlie, giving him signals but he understood that this was not the best place to have their first kiss.
Days passed before they broke through the wall, and then they would have to start making it bigger for Charlie to slide through, Liam was too big and Charlie was pretty small so it was convenient.
Liam was surprised at how well they treated their prisoners, they gave them the best food ever and the guards were nice to them, mostly Charlie though. Charlie was finally able to fit inside the hole, it took a while but they finally it big enough for Charlie.
Charlie escaped and promised to grab a newborn and would break in at night, they made it look like Charlie was asleep with pillows on the bed so it would buy them time for Charlie to escape.
Once it was dark claim was thinking to himself and was ready to fight some guards to escape, he thought about Scarlet and Octavia but he knew they would just turn them in so he was gonna escape without them.
He finally heard the soft grunting of the guards falling and it got louder as Charlie fought his way through. He ran up to the cage and had the keys in hand, he had a sack with something moving inside, he guessed it was the newborn.
Laim, once free ran with Charlie out the back and went into the forest with Charlie. He did not look back he just kept running with Charlie.
