Aspen
I made it to my dorm room thirty minutes later, and I unlocked my room door and stepped into the emptiness.
I had to pay for college and this room, I didn't have enough money for new clothes and food, and I couldn't get a job because I had to get a background check, and my background wasn't the... greatest.
My phone beeped, and I gazed down at it.
Mom:
Hey, I Venmoed you a couple more thousand for your dorm room and paid your phone bill. You should be good for another month.
Thanks, I texted back.
But there was a second text, and I gazed at the unknown number cautiously before clicking it.
You can't hide her forever, Aspen.
My blood ran cold.
What do you want? I texted.
I know where you are now, Aspen. You can't hide forever. You're in the city again, but I will find out where you're staying. And we can chat just like old times, yeah?
A new text popped up.
I hope your friends don't hate you still, because once I find you, you're mine, and they can't help you because you keep blocking them out.
So stupid, Aspen. So stupid.
I breathed shallowly before hesitantly typing, Where are you?
Around. How's Summer by the way? I've been hunting her for a while, you know. And I can't seem to find her.
Another text.
You can't hide her forever, Aspen.
I went still.
I immediately dropped my phone and picked up a glass vase, anger bursting through me as I screamed and threw it to the wall, watching it shatter to pieces at the impact as water rained around me.
I dropped to my knees then, sobbing into my hands as the pain coursed through me.
He wouldn't find her... I made sure of it.
But she needed to stop coming out of that bomb shelter.
Fuck.
"FUCK!" I screamed, shattering another vase as I threw it to the wall. "FUCK!"
I put my face in my hands and cried into them, heart shattering to pieces as I rested my forehead on the ground, clutching the carpet as a fiery heat consumed me.
"I HATE YOU!" I screamed into the floor, clutching my hair tightly. "I HATE YOU!"
