I walked alone down the street, lightly skipping on my feet like the sidewalk was hopscotch.
“H-U-N-T,” I said, hopping more. “Can’t you just stop and caaatch me.”
I kept going, dancing around. But a voice came to my right:
“Aww, are you having fun?”
I spun around then, immediately stepping backward when a stranger stood a couple feet away from me.
“Sorry,” I said then, “I should really get home.”
I turned back around and kept skipping.
He just caught my arm and reeled me backward, and I cried out when he shoved me against a wall and pressed me against it.
I struggled from under him, breathing shakily.
“That wish…” he said then, eyes glowing a bright green, “is mine.”
I just shot my head up, crying out, “DAMON!”
The wolf just growled, lightly catching my throat as I struggled from under him.
“I’m sorry,” someone said from behind him. “I think my name was called.”
He flipped around them, and my eyes widened when I saw Damon standing by a light pole.
The light was blinking as his smile sharpened, and it only made his glowing eyes more menacing.
“Screw off, ass hat,” the wolf snarled. “I’m busy—”
Damon suddenly vanished, and one second, I was held against the wall… the next, I was alone.
I glanced around nervously before I paused, finding Damon standing next to the end of the bridge.
I blinked.
He held the wolf-guy by the throat, dangling him over the edge of the railing as he struggled.
“No…” the wolf-man choked, “st…op.”
“I’m sorry,” Damon said then, tipping his head to the side, “I can’t hear you. Do you mind speaking up?”
He kept struggling, raising his voice: “I SAI—”
Damon’s grip tightened, and he choked again, opening and closing his mouth like a fish.
“I just realized I don’t want to hear it,” Damon said, smiling. “My bad.”
He gasped for air, scratching Damon’s hand as he kicked out his legs.
Damon just pulled out a blade from his pocket, flipping it in his hand before catching it. “I don’t appreciate other wolves touching what’s mine,” he said then, smirking. “Especially with those nasty hands like yours. At least I have decency. When it’s my turn to kill her, I know very well that I’ll do it kindly.” He raised the man, making his legs kick harder. “With grace, with kindness, with ease.”
He smirked then, eyes glowing a bright green. “Unlike what I’m going to do with you.”
He suddenly flipped around and released the man off the bridge.
He screamed then, voice scratching his throat when his arms flailed out from above him.
But Damon just smiled, flipping the blade in his hand again before he closed one eye. “Bullseye.”
He then flew it forward, and I dashed over to the end of the bridge, eyes sparkling when I saw the blade slice through the air before it pierced into the falling man’s right eye.
His screaming then ceased, and he fell mindlessly.
Until he clashed with the road, body spraying blood like he was a balloon full of red paint.
I leaned over the railing a little too far, watching his death with curiosity.
Damon just lightly caught me by my waist, and I yelped when he pulled me away and set me on my feet.
He just smiled lazily. “Don’t lean over it like that. You can fall.”
I tapped my shoe with overwhelming energy, and I hopped a little. “You have such good aim.”
He just pushed my shoulders, so I stopped jumping, and he just ran his hands on my arms. “He didn’t hurt you, did he?”
I blinked a little, but Damon gazed down at my arm, finding a small bruise staining the skin—from where that wolf-guy gripped me.
His lashes lowered, and he caught my hand, raising it to his sight.
After scanning the mark, he gazed down at me. “I apologize for not coming sooner.”
“It’s alright, it doesn’t hurt.” I just gazed up, smiling a little. “Plus, I knew you’d come whether or not I called you. You are obligated to.”
He just gazed up at me, and smiled, lightly tucking a strand of hair behind my ear.
He just tipped his head to the side. “You are not afraid of me?”
I just tipped my head with him. “One must do what one must do to protect his victim… until she is ready for picking.”
Damon just smirked, raising his head and I did with him. “You are an odd one at that, aren’t you?” He held out his hand. “Come now, it’s an hour until midnight, and I want to take you somewhere.”
