It was late, very late, and I was half-asleep when I heard my bedroom door quietly creak.
My lashes fluttered open then.
A shadow cast on the floors from the moonlight behind the doorway, and I watched carefully when the figure stepped over to my bed.
I smiled then.
When she made it to me, she set her hands on the sheets, pulling herself up.
I smiled softly when the mattress dipped down with her soft weight, and I watched as Winter crawled quietly onto the bed.
Clearly thinking I was asleep, she shuffled under the covers and laid down, snuggling with another pillow that was beside me.
I just lightly pulled the sheets up to her shoulders, making her gasp in surprise.
"Can't sleep?" I asked her then.
She shook her head.
I just pulled away and smiled. "Then stay for as long as you like."
She settled against the bed then, closing her eyes.
After watching her expression ease in the darkness, I just lightly pulled some hair away from her forehead.
"You gave in long ago, didn't you?" I whispered to her. "Now you seek comfort in me."
She just breathed for a moment. "You're the only one I can trust right now. You make me feel safe."
I pulled away then, pushing my hand under my pillow. "You trust your killer?"
"Yes," she said quietly. "You're the only one who cannot hurt me or betray me. You allow no one to touch me, you cared about me so much that you promised to protect me until we found my father's killer. You vowed yourself to me..." she continued, "until the end."
My lashes lowered over my green eyes.
Yes. I might've changed my mind about hurting her, but... the scar is still on my hand. Which means the blood pact is still intact. I am bound to protect her... until her father's killer is found.
But... there was another issue on my mind:
The fact that she was still a spirit, and that there were hundreds of people trying to take her away from me. To hurt her.
My fists clenched at the thought, jaw locking.
"Alpha...?" she whispered to me. "What's wrong?"
I glanced down at her, her soft expression and tired eyes weakening my anger. "Nothing, Angel."
She just sniffled and shuffled more into the pillow. "Something's wrong."
I just pulled some more hair away from her face.
"Alpha..." she said to me, "promise me something."
"Yes?" I asked her.
"Even if you change your mind," she said to me, eyes still soft, "about the blood pact, promise me that you won't let anyone other than you take my wish."
I stiffened then.
Shit. She read my thoughts.
I must've let me wall down for a second there.
I just watched her for a moment before nodding. "I promise."
She just smiled a little. "Thank you."
I just brushed some of her hair away from her face. "Now go to sleep before I get mean."
She closed her eyes then, not bothered even slightly about the threat.
I smiled.
My little monster.
