Lois: "Peter, now that Meg’s in college, we really need to consider how we can make some extra money to make ends meet. Your job at the brewery just isn’t cutting it. I think we should take in a couple of boarders... we never use the back den. Let’s turn that into a bedroom." Peter: "Ah, but Lois, I was going to turn that into a rumpus room!" Lois: "Peter, NO! We're making it into a bedroom, and that's final."
Lois worked her magic in the old den, transforming the unused space into a cozy and inviting bedroom. She added a desk, ensuring that there was a place to work, and the room looked welcoming—perfect for their new boarders. Meanwhile, Peter and Lois tackled Meg’s old room, determined to make it livable again.
Lois, armed with a UV light, carefully checked every inch of the space. When the light revealed some questionable spots, she sighed in disbelief. Lois: "Oh my God. This place looks like a damn rave with all the crap squirted everywhere." She shook her head in disgust. "And I thought Chris’s room was bad!" Peter, holding a mop and bucket, just stared in horror. The once cluttered and chaotic space was now scrubbed and flipped, with everything stored away. But Lois wasn’t done yet. She wiped down the walls and carefully flipped the mattress, making sure everything was pristine.
Lois sat down on the couch, flipping through her notifications on AirBNB. She paused when she saw one from a couple interested in renting both rooms. Curiously, she clicked on the message.
Lois: "Huh. Why would a couple want to rent both rooms instead of just one?" She shrugged and replied to the message, unsure of what to expect.
A few moments later, a message pinged back from Primortalj.
Primortalj: "Hi, I am the mother of this account’s owner. My son is visually impaired, and he feels like he wants to go up to New England to see the leaves and get re-inspired as an author."
Lois raised an eyebrow, surprised. Lois: "Peter, we're getting an author in here!" Peter: "Whoa, that's kinda cool!" Just as Lois was about to respond, another message from Primortalj popped up. Primortalj: "This might be a shot in the dark, but if my son rents a room, I’d like to talk to the person renting it over the phone. If that's OK."
Lois glanced at the message, feeling a bit taken aback. She turned to Peter, showing him the screen. Lois: "Oh, this guy—our new writer tena nt—is staying for 45 days, and she wants to talk to me on the phone. She gave me her phone number." Peter leaned over and squinted at the screen. Peter: "Well, that’s a little... interesting. I guess she wants to make sure we’re not serial killers or something." Lois, slightly amused, responded to the request, mentally preparing for the phone call that would set the stage for their new boarder’s arrival.
