On Saturday morning, Jeremy and Rose waited at the curb for their ride to take them to Cincinnati/Covington Airport (CVG). The early morning air was chilly, and the city lights still sparkled in the dark. They arrived at the airport by 5:15 AM, just as the first hints of dawn touched the horizon.
Once inside, Jeremy guided Rose to a nearby Wendy's in the terminal, eager to shake off the morning drowsiness with something warm.
Jeremy: "Here you go, one coffee just the way you like it." He handed her the cup with a smile.
Rose: "Thank you. It’s just what I need to wake up." She took a sip, savoring the warmth.
Meanwhile, Jeremy scanned the menu and decided to grab himself a hot chocolate to keep him going for the trip ahead. With drinks in hand, they found a cozy spot to sit and chat while waiting for their boarding call, excitement and a hint of nervousness buzzing between them as they prepared for the adventure ahead.
Jeremy noticed an Arby’s just a few steps away and headed over to grab a quick breakfast. He returned with a breakfast sandwich, a turnover, and a bag of hash rounds.
Jeremy: "Are you sure you’re not hungry, Rose?" He offered her a hash round, raising an eyebrow.
Rose: "I’m good, really. This coffee will hold me over until lunch." She smiled, taking another sip of her coffee.
Jeremy: "Alright, just remember, we might not be eating on the same schedule in Quahog as we do back at the Bell home."
Rose: "Good point. But if the coffee stops working, I’ll let you know."
They shared a quiet laugh, savoring the moment of calm before their big trip.
As Jeremy and Rose settled into the terminal, a friendly airline stewardess approached them.
Stewardess: "Jeremy and Rose? We’re ready for you. You have priority seating in first class."
They followed her to the Southwest Airlines gate, where they were ushered into their seats at the front of the plane. Rose’s guide dog, Broadrick, curled up obediently at her feet, his eyes alert and his tail gently thumping.
Jeremy: "Hey, Rose, think Broadrick would like a hash round?"
Rose: She laughed softly. "Oh, he’d love it. He’s earned a little treat."
Jeremy leaned down and handed Broadrick a hash round, which the dog accepted with a grateful, gentle nibble.
As Jeremy and Rose settled into their seats, they shared a smile, feeling the thrill of a new adventure. Jeremy pulled out his phone to text his mom.
Jeremy (texting): "We’re on the plane, but takeoff isn’t for another 15 minutes. You might wanna call Grandma."
Taking her suggestion, he dialed his grandmother.
Jeremy: "Good morning, Grandma!"
Grandma: "Hey, Jeremy! So you’re heading to Quahog, Rhode Island, to get that spark for writing back?"
Jeremy: "Yep, that’s the plan. I even shared a hash round with Broadrick, Rose’s new guide dog."
Just then, Jeremy glanced down to find his cherry turnover gone. Broadrick had snatched it right out of his hand, munching away with innocent satisfaction.
Jeremy (laughing): "Grandma, Broadrick just stole my turnover! Little rascal."
Grandma (chuckling): "Sounds like he’s already making himself at home!"
Jeremy grinned as he ended the call, feeling even more eager for what lay ahead in Quahog.
Jeremy ended the call, tousling Broadrick’s neck fur. “Little thief, stealing my cherry turnover.”
Rose glanced over, eyebrows raised. “Wait, he stole your cherry turnover? Broadrick, you can’t be stealing Daddy’s food! What’s wrong with you, dog?”
Broadrick sat there, looking pleased with himself, his expression almost saying, "You snooze, you lose, Dad."
As the plane prepared for takeoff, Jeremy settled in and put on his wireless earbuds. “Rose, if you need anything, just tap me on the shoulder,” he said. “I’ll be listening to my books.”
“Oh, okay,” Rose replied, smiling.
Jeremy pulled out his Victor Reader Stream 3, pressing the power button. A pleasant voice chimed, “Welcome to Victor Reader. 1,000 books. 167: The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien.”
Settling back, Jeremy smiled, ready to immerse himself in his favorite worlds as the plane ascended, carrying him and Rose closer to their new adventure in Quahog. long before man recorded his history. there was the time of middle earth where man shared his days with elves dwarves wizards goblins, and hobbits17Please respect copyright.PENANAtTjpRxkFuy
Jeremy's excitement grew as he reached one of his favorite scenes. “Rose,” he whispered, nudging her shoulder. “I just found out they have the audio-described version of The Hobbit on this flight, and it’s the original 1982 Sony animated version—my favorite!”
“Nice! Enjoy it,” Rose replied, pulling her over-ear headphones into place.
Jeremy selected the movie, noticing a pairing code he’d need to enter for each device. After a few quick taps, both their headphones were connected. As the film began, the iconic narration filled his ears.
“In a hole in the ground, there lived a hobbit. Many ages ago, when this ancient planet was not quite so ancient... Not a nasty, dirty, wet hole…”
Jeremy leaned back, smiling as the familiar opening lines transported him back to Middle-earth. He could already tell this was going to be an unforgettable flight.
“Aww, that hobbit hole sounds cute,” Rose remarked, intrigued.
“Actually,” Jeremy grinned, “people have made real versions of them on Airbnb! You can stay in them for a night, in places like England and Wales.”
“Oh, cool!” Rose replied with a smile.
They continued listening until they reached the familiar song from the dwarves in Bilbo’s house. Jeremy couldn’t resist singing along, “Break the dishes, crack the plates, that’s what Bilbo Baggins hates! So carefully, carefully with the plates!”
“Wait,” Rose giggled, “why are they talking about breaking his dishes?”
“They’re not really going to break them; it’s just a joke,” Jeremy laughed. “It’s like when you tell Zackyou’re going to ‘jack him up’ when you sing, ‘I’m gonna jack up a Zack today, doo dah!’”
They both shared a laugh, the playful banter making the long journey feel a little shorter. they had been on the flight for 1 and a half hours. and they were to the part where the cast in the movie the hobbit meets Elron. and they are looking at the seen where he reads off the elvish names of all the sword like orchrist the goblin Clever. 17Please respect copyright.PENANAzAdHhHOqMX

“Some of these names are so weird,” Rose commented, amused.
“That’s because they’re Elvish,” Jeremy explained. “It’s a fantasy story, after all. Actually, J.R.R. Tolkien wrote a whole glossary of terms from his books called The Silmarillion.”
“Oh, that’s pretty neat,” Rose replied.
Jeremy’s excitement grew. “We’re getting to the climax! This is the part where Smaug gets shot in the chest because one of his scales is missing.”
“Oh, so he used the thrush to send out the news about the missing scale?” Rose asked.
“Exactly,” Jeremy grinned. “That was the dragon’s one vulnerability.”
As the movie ended, they unpaired their headphones and earbuds, carefully stowing them away just as the announcement came that they’d be landing in 45 minutes. Jeremy and Rose exchanged a smile, already buzzing with excitement for their adventure in Quahog.
As the plane touched down and taxied onto the runway, Jeremy and Rose followed the familiar instructions to raise their tray tables and set their seats upright. Jeremy gathered his carry-on, ready to disembark, while Rose’s guide dog, Broadrick, stood patiently at her side.
In the terminal, Lois stood waiting, holding a sign—before it dawned on her that a sign wouldn’t help visually impaired travelers. She quickly discarded it and called out, “Jeremy, Rose, over here!”
Jeremy, dressed in well-worn jeans and his Kids of Grace T-shirt from 2018, turned towards the voices and recognized Lois, Peter, and even Brian standing beside them. Together, they made their way to the red station wagon waiting outside.
“Jeremy,” Peter began as they reached the car, “I got your computer all set up in the new bedroom.”
Lois chimed in, “I talked to your pastor, Pastor Dave. He mentioned you run a newsletter?”
“Yeah,” Jeremy replied with a smile. “It’s called Code and Creed.”
As they loaded up, Jeremy could already feel a warm welcome settling over him, the beginning of a new adventure in Quahog.
Jeremy pulled up his newsletter archives on his laptop. “Alright,” he explained, “the articles are in reverse order. The older they are, the higher the page number.” Lois browsed through the pages, her curiosity piqued as she landed on an article titled "God's Error Messages." She read, taken aback by Jeremy's polished Christian conservative views, which came across strongly. He’d crafted the core concepts and framework, and then used AI to refine the writing with a professional touch.
Intrigued, Lois found another article, this time reading aloud: “This one’s about home Docker servers… and ways someone could use them.” She looked at Jeremy with a questioning expression. “So what exactly is Docker?”
Jeremy launched into an analogy that Lois could follow. “Picture it like a ranch with three pens—one for cattle, one for sheep, and one for pigs. Now, the cattle pen is the largest, but cattle require less frequent feedings since they chew their cud. Pigs, on the other hand, will eat anything and everything, constantly. So, just as you’d have different kinds of livestock in variously sized pens, you can run apps in Docker containers of different sizes, each with unique storage and data requirements.”
Lois nodded, understanding more as he continued to draw comparisons, impressed by the mix of practicality and creativity he’d brought to explaining his tech setup.17Please respect copyright.PENANAvLYHTDg63L
Jeremy continued, warming to his analogy. "Another one I could use is the warden of a supermax prison," he said, eyes gleaming with excitement. "You’ve got three prisoners: John, who eats a lot and walks around a lot, Dan, who eats less but works out more, and then you’ve got Kyle, who just sleeps all day."
Lois raised an eyebrow, intrigued. "Okay, so what’s the connection?"
“Well,” Jeremy continued, “think of the prisoners as different types of apps, and the warden is like the Docker system. John would be like a high-demand app that needs more resources—more memory and power to function. Dan would be a more efficient app that doesn’t consume as much, so it uses fewer resources. And then Kyle, well, he's like an app that just sits there in the background, using minimal resources—barely doing anything."
Lois smiled. “Ah, I get it now. The Docker system manages all these ‘prisoners’—or apps—based on how much they need to operate efficiently.”
“Exactly!” Jeremy nodded, glad she understood. “Just like a warden needs to keep track of each prisoner’s needs and behavior, Docker containers let you manage apps according to their resource usage.”
Lois chuckled. “So, Docker’s kind of like the prison for apps.”
“Yeah,” Jeremy grinned. “But in a good way. It keeps everything organized and running smoothly.”
Jeremy continued, “If you’ve got loads of old DVDs, CDs, and other media that needs digitizing, we can set you up with a Docker server for that too. With the right tools, we can even set it up to convert VHS tapes to MP4 files, while preserving the signature artifacting of VHS so it still feels like the old-school tapes. It’s perfect for people who want to relive the nostalgia but in a more modern format.”
Lois nodded, clearly impressed. “So, you’re saying you could save people’s old movies and TV shows—like their childhood home videos?”
“Exactly,” Jeremy said, smiling. “And for DVDs and Blu-rays, it’s just as easy. If you’ve got an old PC with a DVD drive, you can rip those discs, encode them, and store them digitally.”
“Nice,” Lois remarked. “I imagine Plex or Jellyfin would work great for this setup?”
“Yeah,” Jeremy agreed, “Both Plex and Jellyfin are great media players for streaming those digital copies. With the right Docker setup, you can have your whole collection accessible on any device in your home. Plus, you can even stream it while you’re on the go if you set it up right.”
Lois grinned. “Sounds like a total game-changer for anyone with a ton of old media they want to preserve. And it's all automated too?”
“That’s the beauty of Docker,” Jeremy said, leaning back. “Once the system’s set up, it’s pretty much automated. You just put the media in the right folder, and the server handles the rest. Easy as pie!”
Rose playfully punched Jeremy in the arm. "Jeremy, honey, I swear, she doesn’t want to hear you talk about Docker all day, as fascinating as that can be."
Jeremy exaggerated, clutching his chest. "Violence... violence I say!" He dramatically leaned back in his chair, grinning.
Rose rolled her eyes. "Oh, Jeremy, why you gotta do that? I didn’t hit you."
“Yeah, I just felt like imitating Zack since he isn’t here. You know you’re gonna miss him saying ‘violence, violence, I say’ at every evening meal."
Peter raised an eyebrow. “Wait, what’s the story behind that?”
Jeremy chuckled and leaned in to explain. “Well, Rose likes to tell people she’s gonna ‘jack them up.’ Zack, Dave, and Dave’s goal is to get her to say it. If she does, they get a point. If she doesn’t, she gets a point.” He paused, then added with a smirk, “And Zack’s ‘violence, violence, I say’ is his way of teasing Rose, letting her know she messed up and threatened to jack him or Dave up.”
Rose crossed her arms and pretended to scowl. “Oh please, you guys are impossible.” She rolled her eyes and laughed. “I’ll have you know, I don’t always give in to those guys. I’m a tough cookie.”
Jeremy grinned. “Sure, tough cookie, but when Zack hits you with that ‘violence’ line, it’s hard to resist laughing, right?”
Rose raised an eyebrow. “You’re lucky you’re cute, Jeremy.”
Peter laughed. “Okay, I think I get it now. Sounds like a fun little tradition, even if it’s a bit silly.”
“You know it is,” Jeremy said, nodding. “But that’s the beauty of it. It’s all in good fun, and it keeps the mood light.”
Lois, watching the playful banter with a knowing smile, added, “It’s good to see you two have such a fun dynamic. It’s nice to have that kind of humor around.”
Rose smiled softly, feeling a bit shy. “I guess we do have a weird sense of humor, huh?”
Jeremy laughed. “You could say that. But it works for us.”
They all shared a laugh, the warm camaraderie filling the room as they moved on to the next chapter of their adventure together.
Ah, I see! Here’s how we can revise it with Jeremy as the judge and Rose as the prisoner:
As they pulled into the driveway, Jeremy sat up straighter, taking on a mock-serious tone. “Alright, court is now in session. I, Judge Jeremy, hereby declare the points tally for last year’s competition.”
Rose groaned. “Not this again...”
Jeremy continued, completely in his element. “Zack finished the year with 150 points, Dave Hopper with 86, Dave Grimes with 64, and Rose—” He paused dramatically, “—Rose has... 11.”
Rose gasped. “What?! That’s not fair!”
Jeremy nodded solemnly. “It’s official. The court has spoken.”
Peter raised an eyebrow. “This is getting out of hand...”
But Jeremy was having too much fun. “Now, Rose, we have a new matter before the court today. You, Rose, are accused of violence.”
Rose’s eyes narrowed playfully. “Jeremy, I’m gonna jack you up.”
Jeremy immediately raised his hand as the judge. “Violence, violence, I say!” He slammed his gavel (which was, in reality, just his fist against the seat). “You are guilty of violence! How do you plead?”
Rose crossed her arms, pretending to think it over. “Not guilty!” She leaned forward, smirking. “I find myself innocent of all charges.”
Jeremy, still in judge mode, shook his head. “I hereby find you guilty as charged.” He banged his fist on the seat again. “And your punishment, my dear prisoner, is to drink from Broadrick’s water bowl tonight before bed!”
Rose gasped in mock horror. “What?! You can’t be serious!”
Jeremy nodded gravely. “The court has spoken. There is no escaping your sentence.”
Peter snickered. “I think Rose might be the one who’s gonna jack you up, Jeremy.”
Lois chuckled, shaking her head. “You two are ridiculous.”
Rose, never one to back down, smirked at Jeremy. “Alright, alright. But only because you're the judge. But next time, I’m taking the gavel.”
Jeremy laughed. “We’ll see about that. Court dismissed!”
