An hour before the guests arrive, May went into the dining room to make sure everything was ready.
She walked around the beautifully set table making sure all the flatware were artfully arranged with a bowl in the middle.
She wanted her guests to feel the extra touch that would let them know that she took time and effort to give them a special experience.
When she went back into the sitting room, she found White standing at the window and looking out while Yim chatted with someone via text.
"Who are you texting?" May asked.
"No one," was Yim's secretive answer.
"Liar!"
Turning away from Yim, May served herself cranberry punch and joined White at the window.
"It's going to rain," White announced.
"Why do you say that?"
May leaned closer to the window to see if the the weather was cloudy enough to herald the rain.
"Don't you feel the sudden chillness in the air?"
"Yes I feel it. I hope it doesn't prevent my guests from coming," May was a little alarmed.
"I hope it rains, the weather has been incredibly hot," Yim joined them at the window.
"And I hope it only rains after my guests get here."
"When do we eat? I am starving," Yim said without much enthusiasm.
"You are always starving," May rebuked. "We will eat once the guests arrive."
Looking at his watch, White remarked: "It's almost time for the guests to arrive."
"I hope they get here soon so that we can eat something for heaven's sake," Yim turned away in frustration.
Minutes later, they heard sounds of car engines followed by car doors opening and closing.
"They are here," May cried with excitement as she hurried towards the front door.
When Aiden arrived, May warmly receives him into her home
"You must be Aiden. White has told me so much about you."
Aiden suddenly felt shy.
"I am May your hostess for the evening."
"I brought the hostess a food hamper as a gift of gratitude for the invitation to your dinner party."
Aiden presented May with the food hamper filled with prosecco, cheese, chocolate, fruit minced tarts and other speciality treats.
Taking the beautifully wrapped hamper May said. "This is very generous and very thoughtful. I am truly honored."
"Oh, and it's heavy too," May giggled.
"Yim dear, please take this to the kitchen."
Yim came and took the food gift hamper from May and carried it to the kitchen.
"Come Aiden and let you introduce you to the guests."
Taking Aiden by the arm, May led him to a cluster of people chatting and sipping cranberry punch.
After the introductions and engaging in a few of the conversations, Aiden decided to fly solo.
He was by himself with his cranberry punch when May approached him and she was not alone.
She brought with her a newly arrived guest.
He was athletic looking, dark haired and his gleaming eyes seemed to pierce Aiden's very soul.
Aiden felt his brain cells swerving violently at the sight of this new arrival.
His heartbeat increased and his cheeks flushed with colour.
"Aiden, this Is Han. Han this is Aiden, l will leave you to get aquatinted."
Long after May had left, Han and Aiden just stared at each other, and not a word was said.
Just ignore him, Aiden thought.
But as Aiden turned to walk away, Han spoke.
"I hear White is the man of the moment."
"What do you mean?" Aiden felt the need to ask.
"The streets are saying he is the new man that you have given your heart to."
Aiden felt the hairs on the back of his neck prickle.
What a sarcastic bastard! Aiden thought to himself.
"Judging by the way your cheeks are flushed, I presume it's the truth. Now I am curious about him."
"Why are you so obsessed with me and my life?"
Aiden wished desperately to say something that would jolt him.
Han smiled sardonically.
"I am not obsessed with you or your life."
White came over to Aiden.
Aiden smiles at White and wraps his hand around his arm. He then decides to flirt him in front of Han.
"You are looking very handsome this evening. Who are you wearing?"
"Burberry."
You always look good in Burberry," Aiden said as he tenderly placed a kiss against his shoulder.
Han watched them carefully but his expression was blank and devoid of emotion.
Leaving them, Han walks over to the window.
Aiden came over to antagonize him further.
"Why are you even here?"
"I was invited just like everyone else," Han answered with a cool confidence.
"Why you are invited to the same dinner party as me, that is what I want to know?" Aiden had no intention of backing down.
"Perhaps it's fate that we meet again," Han's tone was hard as ice.
"Are you that obsessed to want to be in the same space as me?" Aiden snapped with a silent desperation.
"You are still very delusional. I was invited by the hostess herself," Han's words were short and to the point.
"You know the hostess?" Aiden inquired like it was such a an outrageous idea.
Han turned to face Aiden.
"Yes, I do."
"I can see that you are still as arrogant as ever," Aiden said as he gathered up his last remaining calmness.
"I realized I did not need to change the way I am once I broke things off with you," Han told him.
Suddenly Aiden became aware of Han's powerful good looks and there was a potency about him that chilled and aroused him at the same time.
Aiden was still on the offense.
"I wanted to leave you but I needed a reason. So you breaking off our relationship was a relief."
"I felt that same relief of not having to deal with your constant moaning about me not loving you enough."
Han then moved closer until they just inches away from each other.
"You have a new man now, I will urge you to focus on that."
In that very moment, May came into the sitting room and announced to the assembly of guests.
"Dinner is served."
To Aiden's horror he found he was placed in between Han and White.
"How did you and May meet?" White asked after the second course was served.
"We work out at the same gym and share a personal trainer."
"Interesting," was White's reply before looking at Aiden.
"Are you enjoying the food?"
"It's a bit bland," Aiden said with a nonchalance
Han looked at Aiden and remarked. "I find it very delicious."
Aiden felt exhausted around Han and he seemed determined to taunt him at every possible opportunity.
"Are you two a couple."
Han first looked at Aiden before moving his gaze to White.
"Yes, we just started dating," White spoke while smiling sweetly at Aiden.
Aiden quickly jumped in.
"When White told me he wanted us to be exclusive, I felt very lucky because he is so handsome. On our first date I realized he was my type."
This revelation from Aiden caused White to blush.
"Are you also in a relationship?" White asked Han.
Han looked down at his plate for a moment and signed.
"I am not in a relationship."
"Where you previously in a relationship?"
"Yes, but we broke up. My ex partner was pitiful and impulsive if I am being honest."
Han was looking at Aiden when he said this and went further to add more.
"He was controlled by his emotions, not only that he always complained about me not loving him enough. I soon realized that even if I bought him every Harry Winston diamond that existed it would never be enough to prove my love for him."
"That's very sad," White murmured.
On the outside Aiden remained calm and serene, inwardly he trembled with anger. He was tormented by Han's description of their relationship and of him.
His character was being assassinated and felt justified to defend it.
Aiden leaned his head against White's shoulder.
'If it were me, once I love someone I would not need all the diamonds in world as proof of his love. I will only have to look into his eyes and to see how he loves me."
"Are you saying my ex partner did not love me?" Han directly asked Aiden.
Aiden smirked and answered him.
"I wouldn't know because I am not him."
"My ex partner and I were very much in love and found estastacy in each other's arms. I would have surrendered my life if that would have made him happy."
Aiden felt his heart squeezing in anguish followed by regret and wishing to turn back the hands of time and make it alright.
White came in with.
"Your heart is in the right place, I am sure you will meet someone deserving of your love."
"I wish you both all the happiness in the world," Han said in a cool cryptic tone.
His words sounded ominous in Aiden's ears. It was as if Han was threatening him.
"Thank you," White responded.
After the dinner party was over White drove Aiden home.
He did most of the talking but Aiden was too preoccupied with his thoughts to really listen to anything that was said.
"What do you think of him?" White asked.
Aiden turned to White.
"Whom are you referring to?"
"Han."
"Oh..him," Aiden looked away with an exhausted sign.
White seemed interested in knowing Aiden opinion.
"Yes, what do you think of him?"
"I don't know what to think of him," Aiden finally mumbled.
