"What the do you mean, 'he's here' Angelo?" Jones was the first one to ask after Helen ended the party promptly after hearing me. We were all in the living room with an atmosphere fit for a tornado. Ella and her mother were giggling excitedly as I settled more into the suddenly over-stuffed couch, avoiding Amelia's watering eyes but her espíritu was too in-tune with my own. Waves and waves of raw terror, dismay and rage came down on me until it started to choke me. I knew what she was thinking because I was thinking it.
We failed but it went beyond that. We didn't fail. Amelia had no way of stopping it. She was just an ignorant half-fae that had this thrown onto her. I was a full witch that had piles of knowledge about deals with demons. I had everything at my disposal to find a way to stop this. In the end, it was I who failed.
Amelia stood aside from the rest of the group, alternating between glaring out the window to glaring at me. Maybe because it was the only way to keep herself from crying. She had her arms crossed, digging her nails into her sweater.
"A-" I choked down my own feelings of dismay. I couldn't even look at Jones, the more understanding of the wolves without feeling his annoyance. I could feel Zach and John staring at me with the same thought. Good for nothing. The only positive energy was coming from Ella and Helen. I tried to focus on that but it was overruled by the others'. "Another Creature had entered the house. I-I can't feel it now. I didn't have time to get in tune with it before it-"659Please respect copyright.PENANA671h0z14OR
Zach's growl cut me off as he nearly fell over the across from me. I jumped back into the couch as he barked, "Our only lead and you lost it?" with a snarl. Jones spun to him, a disgusted expression donning his normally calm face but before he could speak, Ella spoke up.659Please respect copyright.PENANA1WfeXL8MUi
"You were messing with him Zach!" she scolded as she sunk besides me. I flinched when she wrapped her arms around me, I suppose in a way to comfort me. All it did was make me fear for my life more. Zach's nostrils flared and I swear even Jones' jaw ticked. "He did his best to try and help Amelia!" Amelia's rage flared before settling at the mention of her name. She turned to all of us as if on a wire only she knew of.659Please respect copyright.PENANAxS4SN73PBh
"Not enough." she spoke in such a low voice, I could have missed it. She stalked up the stairs, numbness washing over her. Or maybe it was my own. I stood quickly, my head spinning and black dots danced around my vision but I didn't care. I went to follow her, trying to shake the million stares of the people. She didn't say a word, not even to scream at me, as she went into her room with an eerie calm.659Please respect copyright.PENANAJ1gpoqS0Et
She kicked the spell book that was hazardously on the floor. I winched at the way it flew across the room and the sickening thump against the green wall. Amelia dropped down onto her bed, face down. Rage. She could only feel rage. My stomach churned and I felt myself shaking. She had never felt this much rage in her whole life. Not even when her mother told her about what she did. Not even when Zach and Jones came. Not. Ever. She couldn't believe that her best friend in the whole world let her down like this. He didn't look hard enough! He didn't try hard enough! He had already resigned her to her fate as a prize for some asshole!659Please respect copyright.PENANAWw0BbPDGEH
All she wanted was for me to leave. Leave and not come back for... she didn't know. She was too angry to think clearly. I mumbled something as I stumbled out of her room. I think I used a spell abuela taught me a long time ago. A distance one. Or maybe I just walked the whole way. I don't remember but one second later I was stumbling to my room. Abuela and mamá must have felt it too because they didn't move from the table or even speak to me as I stumbled through. They had to. It was too intense. I literal had to throw up everyone's disappointment in me half an hour later when I idiotically focused on Amelia's espíritu. And yet, after that, I still focused on it until I can see what was happening. She hadn't even moved. She didn't speak as Ella slowly cracked open her door or timidly went to sit up her. She didn't stir when Ella rubbed her back the same way she did when kids at school teased her about her fae ears.659Please respect copyright.PENANAcKeQqX3j1X
"Amy... you can't be mad at him. It was just meant to be." Ella said in that siren voice of hers. Amelia didn't say anything although she knew Ella was right. It wasn't his fault that this happened. If anything, it was her mother's. Spell reading isn't easy, she remembered him saying. But if he just tried just a little harder, they could have prolonged this. If he was willing to summon a demon to find out the one her mother made the deal with then this could have been avoided.
"He looked really upset." Amelia knew that. Angelo never left her room through a distance spell! He had never not spent the weekend at their house. But she didn't care. She just couldn't. He wasn't about to be fought over like a piece of meat between two guys she has never even met! His life wasn't about to plug-
"Mr. Contendo. We must have a... little chat." I was snapped out my trance by a smooth, low voice. It took me a second but once my brain processed that this wasn't even my home I snapped into attack mode. Only my powers didn't want to work They faded as soon as I willed them. The man in front of me chuckled and waved his hand like he was wiping something. He was tall and lean with gleaming black hair and a sharp face. He wore a tailored black three-piece suit. He was leaning against a gravestone as his ruby eyes landed on me.659Please respect copyright.PENANALzXYkHPFpZ
Demondemondemondemonohshitdemon.
I fell back with a shriek I'm not proud to admit. I was certain my heart had stopped as he took a step towards me, looking down with a confused, amused smirk.659Please respect copyright.PENANAR30i39KZId
"For a witch of your line, I didn't think you would be as... frighten."
"Puto Demonio!" I screamed, struggling to crawl back through the thick black mud and summoning my powers fruitlessly. Said demonio laughed and yanked me up like a doll.659Please respect copyright.PENANA2jsSLHjjqb
"My, my!" he said in an amused tone that I did not appreciate as pulled out the necklace I got for Amelia today. A yellow diamond necklace with a silver chain. My breath hitched and another cursed died on my tongue. How did he get that? How did he-659Please respect copyright.PENANAnib5avFyRN
The espíritu I felt.
I looked at the demon with wide eyes. He winked.
"Bingo my not so happy angel."659Please respect copyright.PENANAZjQrtRvQ4c
