He slipped the necklace into a pocket that wasn't even there and floated around me, sizing me up for the kill. Or worse. He stopped in front of me with a deep, disappointed sigh. Great. I thought bitterly. Even a demon is disappointed in me.
"Not in you sobrino. Your madre on the other hand..." he hissed, his lip curving just the perfect amount to see sharp, thin teeth yellowed from years of chewing tobacco. "You have such potential and yet, they all limit you!" He wanted to say more but with true restraint he held his tongue.
Me? Not so much.
"How do you know about my madre?" I breathed. Mamá would never make a deal with a demon even it was to save me. Her family has always been above the darker side of magia. But padre...
The demon called me sobrino. Mamá's brother died a year ago and he was a large, beefy man that even the most powerful of weight spells had no effect on him.
Padre's brother wasn't ever allowed around when Mamá was around.
The demon smiled and nodded with a chuckle. "Ah! Now he remembers!" he rejoiced. "But, unfortunately, this isn't a family reunion."
"I don't want a deal." I choked out knowing full well that this wasn't a deal for me. It was one made long before me and he knew I knew. He said those dreadful words in a simple, causal manner. This wasn't a family reunion like he said; this was unfortunate business.
"Little angel, Amelia has to fall in love with you. Your father..." tío Raphael paused as if remembering him. "Your father wants you to be the witch you can be."
"What does that h-have to do with it?"
Raphael sighed greatly, turning up his blames and shaking his head. "If you somehow fail to make her fall in love with you, I will take you under my apprenticeship-with or without your consent and you will be a demon." he smiled softly and chuckled. "I've already seen the other guy." and with that, I woke up in a cold sweat on my bedroom floor, wrapped in blankets.797Please respect copyright.PENANAorlK5W43Pp
I was resigned to the idea that it was all a dream. I wanted to be. But I had to see the demon mark on my shoulder, proudly displayed for the world to see. Not the world; that would have changed everything.
Just me and my tío Raphael.
