You swallow hard but before you have a chance to fire back at him a torrential rain descends upon the both of you. You don’t react at first. All you can do is just stand there and stare at Drake. The street is devoid of people. Every other sane person is taking refuge under awnings and bars still yet to close. You’re quiet as he speaks. Your mind goes back to that evening on the beach. After you had come back from the Statue of Liberty the others wanted to head back to the hotel. The fire was still burning and you weren’t quite ready to go home. Drake had been the only one who stayed. Just as you open your mouth to speak Drake moves back out into the rain to the side of the road. Your eyes settle on a sleek silver car with a small light atop it. You have been so lost in thought you hadn’t even been looking out for a taxi. The rain hasn’t let up and the driver looks almost annoyed as you both quickly duck into the back seat, shoes squishing and clothes dripping. Thankfully the cab driver speaks English and Drake tells the man where you both need to go. You settle back into your seat keeping your eyes straight ahead. Drake seems to do the same. You don’t know what else to say. You just hope you can get back to your room with minimal issues once you arrive at the train.
