An investigation team was sent out to take a look at the object. But we knew that the enemy would have seen it too. So we brought "insurance" just in case.
On our way to the crash site, we saw some strange pieces of rocks that were glowing not from the heat but instead they were emitting their own light. Two scientists, Strickland and Anna Schultz, tagged along with us. They told us that they were curious to know what it was and why the meteor fragments altered the rock structures. The twenty of us got out of our vehicles and carefully approached the site making sure to keep an out for enemy mini drones. We all were a bit nervous as to what we might find there. Each of us put on our anti-radiation outfits and with weapon in hand began our slow descent into the crater.
Once we reached the bottom what we found was nothing short of an unexpected surprise, a new ecosystem had started developing according to what the two scientists found out. I could never understand what they said as I was not that well versed in science but I knew from their facial expressions that they were really enjoying this new place. Well, why wouldn't they? After all it meant new possibilities. But their joy would not last long as we would find out soon enough that we were not alone and something more sinister was lurking about in the shadows.
While the rest of my teammates set up a temporary camp, me and another soldier were assigned as guards for the scientists. The two of them were busy taking samples while we stood guard. Suddenly we heard a scream from the scientists location and quickly we ran towards them. Anna was running towards us as if something was after her life. I could see terror in her eyes as she got closer and closer. Her anti-rad suit had been badly damaged. My friend quickly ran to her aid.
"Strickland's gone....it killed him." she said as she broke down in tears. She then continues to say,"We need to GET OUT of here. Its coming back." . And then in the distance we saw something that looked like a humanoid caped figure. It soon started charging at us. Leaving us no other choice, we opened fire but our weapons had little effect it. Everytime we hit it, it just healed itself. Finally my friend threw a grenade at it to buy us time to escape, regroup with the others and get the hell out of there.
The grenade landed in front of it and exploded kicking up dust as it destroyed half of the unknown hostile. We ran like there was no tomorrow. We ran with all our might. Our mates at the camp were surprised to see on three of us. Anna explained the situation while we provided evidence in the form of footage caught by our helmet cameras. We manage to convince them and quickly packed up only necessary items like the water recycling units, ammo, and other items. As we slowly ascended up, the air was again dusty and smoky. The sound of firefights erupting on the surface slowly reached our ears. Below us we could see the beautiful yet deadly crater illuminating the dark. We knew whatever it was that attacked us, there were more of them. So we had to warn our leaders about the unknown threat. All I knew was that if we did not stop fighting amongst ourselves we would eventually die alone fighting this threat.....Just like a family that always quarrels amongst themselves estrange themselves and eventually like a candle get blown out.
