He ran through town in the pitch black darkness. Sirens were blaring in the background. All the anger faces, the ear ringing screams, they all played an imagine in his head. This was the town he grew up in, the town he went to school for 12 years with the same people. The town he won 2 state football games for.
No one would accept him. Not like this.
He said goodbye as he entered the woods on the edge of the city. After an hour or so, he couldn't see the lights or hear the sirens. He had no idea where he was going. He stumbled, hit branches, fell once or twice, but he got back up every time.
The stars soon faded and the night sky started to transform to dark blue. Finding himself near a cliff, he debated to jump off or not. He sat at the edge, pondering in thoughts.
A butterfly, with wings as colorful as a peacock, landed on his shoulder. Scott turned slowly, trying not to frighten the creature. It didn't seem to have any fear as he held out his hand and jumped on it. The butterfly crawled all around his hand, and if Scott could smile, he would.
Looking up, he could see the sun was rising, hitting the mountains slowly with grace. He didn't remember the last time he saw a sunrise. He took in the red and yellow colors in the leaves, the valley lightening up as each second past. It was beautiful.
He had never felt more human.
