Chapter Eight
Finn leads us to the back of the house instead of the front like he did yesterday. We walk through a little hallway that has benches running along the walls, and above that some hocks. Finn stops us in this room, he turns around and says that we need to change into our wellies that we brought with us. Ohh, I think as he says this, that’s why we were told to put them here. Once everyone is done he leads us through the door which leads us outside. The wind strikes me when I step onto the ground.
He takes us up the small hill until we come across flat land where the stables are, when we get closer smell hits us, horse do-do. Finn opens the gate and holds it open for us to all go in, “Watch your feet,” Just as he says this someone pulls me back from where I was going to walk, I look over and Alex is holding me, then I look down and see a big bit of a horse's business.
“Thanks,” I mutter to Alex, he smiles at me. Finn starts talking but I don’t really listen, I look up to the boy beside me and think.
A little bit later we all get given a horse, mine is called Caramel, most likely because he had a light brown streak down his head, the rest of him is dark brown along with his hair. The last time I was on a horse I was 8 and we were on holiday in spain, I have never ridden one freely. I try to get up on him, you are meant to swing one leg over the horse's back right? I was having some troubles.
Suddenly I hear a horse walking up behind me, I turn and Alex is sitting on a cream colored horse with brown hair. “Need some help?” Alex swings off his horse and comes over to me, without saying anything else he puts both his hands around my waist and lifts me up like a baby, and like I was as light as anything, and put me down on the horses sadle. Then he taped me on the helmet I am wearing.
“Thanks,” as I say this he jumps up on his, with no trouble.
“It’s nothing,” he gets his horse’s reins in his hands, “you might want to do this too.” He lifts his hands up as a mostin to tell me that I should take my horse’s reins too, so I do. My horse starts to walk, I breath in quickly. “Wow, do you not like horse’s?” Alex has turned his horse around so that there were now facing the same way.
“I do,” I say breathy, “I just don’t really trust myself is all.”
“Well Carmel does not like to stay still, he’s always moving his legs, but he can sense your nerves so he’ll probably be a little more still. If you want me to be beside you on this walk, I will, so that you don’t feel so alone, and unsafe.” This guy has got to be the kindest guy I’ve met.
“I’d love that,” we smile at each other. Suddenly my horse is closer to Alex’s and is wrapping his head around his.
“Sorry about that, Daisy, my horse, and Caramel has had a foal together.”
“That’s really cute.”
“Yeah it is, that’s why Daisy, right now can only be riddin by someone she knows, and only on little walks as she is nursing and very tired.” He laughs a little.
“Were you there? When she was in labor?” I ask him.
“Yeah, that’s a good story actually.”
“Everyone, can you please gather round?” Finn asks us.
“But it will have to wait.” Alex leans over and says, Daisy moves over to the other horse’s and Caramel walks to with out me telling him too. Finn is on a black horse that is somehow bigger than any other.
“Right everyone, we are going to go on a little walk this morning. We will do it follow the leader style with me at the front then all of yous in a line behind me and Alex will be at the very end. If something happens then tell either one of us ok? Good. Let’s go.”
The walk was very relaxing, and with Alex right behind me I felt a lot saver, he also helped when we had to go down a little slop or up a little hill what way to sit so the horse had a better time doing it.
Once we had been on them for a while we stopped at a open space where there was a lake that the horse’s went to in order to get a drink. We all sat on blankets that Finn had brought with him, then he dished out some sandwiches and bottles of water. Looking around I saw that Meghan and Johnny were sitting on one by themselves, Alex had gone to get something for Finn so I just sat and eat my turkey and lettuce mayonnaise sandwich with some water. I decided to lay back on my back and look up at the blue sky that had some white clouds about, and I play a game that me and Aaron used to always play, but I play it in my head. The game is saying what you see in the clouds. I see a cat with a wizard hat on, a big house, a ship, sharks, oh a mermaid! Suddenly I see a figure, who is smiling down at me. His blonde hair comes into focus.
“Do you always find a new way to entertain yourself?” He laughs and leads over me.
I smile and nod at him, suddenly his hand comes up and goes through my wild and free hair, I feel a tingle go through me. “You have beautiful hair.” He whispers to himself, I don’t think I was meant to hear him.
The ride back was a little weird between me and Alex. This time Alex leads, I am still behind him, and Finn is at the back. Getting back on Caramel was more easy as when I approached him he leaned down so I could sit on him as if I was sitting on a seat and not a live animal.
When we got back to the stables, Caramel again leant down so I could step off him instead of jumping. I go around to his face and hold out my hand, he sniffs it, then I reach forward and pet his neck first. I read somewhere that you must start by petting a horse’s neck then move on there face so as to not scare them.
“I think he like you.” Finn comes around to me, “do you want to take him in there?” He points to the staples, “Alex is in there, he will help you. I would help but I need to get all them to the big lake, is that ok?”
“Yeah.” I nod to him, he smiles and walks away. “Ok, we can do this, can’t we?” I say to Caramel. I reach and get his reins so I can take him to the staples. He doesn't complain.
When we get there Alex comes over to us, “Wow, I think Caramel has made a new friend.” He has gloves on his hands, and take the reins off of me. “Do you wanna help me? Or you could catch up with them and go out on the river, it’s just that I won't be going on the water, too much to do here.”
“I would love to help.” I say to him.
“Really, don’t you want to have a water fight, because that’s what it always into.”597Please respect copyright.PENANAkOhlcIaw4t
“Nah, I don’t really like getting socked. Maybe another time.”
“Ok, thanks I’d love the help, I’ll teach you.”
“Ok, lead the way.” I grin and follow him in.
