I never expected the world to go to shit, but that's exactly what happened.
My job was supposed to be saving people from things they didn't understand, nightmares brought to life by the supernatural creatures hunt and prey on humans. Then the apocalypse came, and none of us was prepared.
When my friends and I found out that there was a traitor in the organisation, we tried to discover their identity, but there was more going on behind the scenes.
I tighten my grip on the steering wheel, my muscles were tense from the boiling rage that I hid from my friends. My stomach had knots that would not untangle.
Driving down the familiar route to my destination I pulled up and stopped at the now bent out of shape gate that used to be the only way I used to go in and out of the institute where I used to live with the others.
I felt my throat tighten, I was so emotional these days if anyone back then told me I would be standing here. a wreck. I would have laughed at them and then kicked their asses.
Leaning against the gate I looked at the horror that was my home. The fighting against the Demons and one of our own cost us a lot of people. Most of them elders trying to get the young generation out when the fighting started. I barely managed as it was. There was a big explosion which rendered the institute useless.
Black marks from the fire crawled up the walls like shadows crawling into your room on a moonlight night from the branches of trees. The windows were shattered from the explosion, glass littered the ground like sparkling diamonds on a sunny day.
I've been coming here for months and I still haven't managed the courage to see the inside. Maybe once I do, I'd realize the life I had before was gone and now I'm running.
A sharp kick to the stomach made me realise I have lingered too long. Putting my hand lovingly on my stomach, I smiled and got back into the car. Maybe one day I'll be able to help put the world back together again but for now, I have to concentrate on keeping myself and my friends safe.
Looking Into the rearview mirror I remembered how this all happened and I'm going to tell it to you.
