Autumn is bon fires on the beach, apple orchard adventures, and corn maize frenzies. Beer festivals held in the brisk weather. Pretzels wrapped around your neck to cleanse your pallet when tasting new craft beers. Feeling the cool breeze on flushed, drunken skin. Autumn means the annual pumpkin and apple donuts from the apple orchard that are only sold for two months out of the year. Autumn is football season. The two hour drive to the stadium bundled up in green, blue, and gold. It’s screaming into the weekend chill for the Fighting Irish. There is a mad rush to get one last camping trip in before the snow begins to pile and crush any hopes of venturing outside. I pity anyone who does not experience a true autumn. When the leaves slowly dull from their lush vibrant green and morph into the soft hues of orange, brown, red, and yellow. Beautiful leaves fly through the blue sky with fluffy white clouds. Pumpkins coat every corner and mums cover every porch. Wearing a chunky sweater and slipping on boots to crunch through the sand dunes on the shore of Lake Michigan. Crisp air turns your hot breath into white puffs that float from your lips. Autumn is the swan song of outside adventures. One last chance to breath in the fresh air before the dull of winter looms over.
