Fawn screamed in surprise as bright sparks flew from BLIM's neck. Horrified hands froze and she held her breath. Hoping she did no damage to his system, she leaned forward poking his cheek. The light flesh sponged back and he angled his head towards her annoyed. One of his two toned eyes focused on her.
"Please be careful," BLIM bit out adjusting his shoulders and craning his neck. Fawn relaxed her shoulders and let out a soft sigh.
"I know what I am doing," she remarked gentling soldering a burnt section on the pulsing yellow chip exposed at the base of his neck.
"Need I remind-" his voice died out. Fawn groaned.
"No, no, no," she whispered reaching for her scanner. Quickly attaching it to the wires that hung low, she bit her lip impatiently while it beeped to life. Viewing the code that blinked red she swore under her breath. Flipping the large magnifying glasses onto her petite nose, she pulled out her tools. Mumbling to herself she adjusted his settings, soldered a few links, and slapped the opening shut entering her access code.
Crawling around facing him, she leaned back onto her knees waiting for his system to reboot. Gnawing on her lower lip she twirled one of her silver wrenches between her fingers. BLIM returned to life with a few blinks and stared at her. His eyes now two different colors since Fawn's failed experiment left one of his original eyes rotting the sun. She had to regrow him a new one that again failed and resulted in two different eye colors. One golden orb and one blue orb continued to stare at her.
"Oi!" he yelled. His voice had changed. It was rough and held a thick accent. His expression turned from shock to anger. "Bilge-rat! This be embarassin'," he stood up and began pacing. Fawn fought very hard to keep her expression stale. But, she was failing. Snorting out a laugh she doubled over. She must have caused a short circuit in his language processor. BLIM twirled around looking at Fawn in horror. "Ye be laughin? Ye picaroon! Ye knave! Fix this!" he demanded. "Tis' no way for me to go 'bout talkin'."
"At least this is amusing," she ventured holding her hands up in innocence. Fawn continued her fits of giggles. “I mean, you would be able to speak with the natives in remote Ipo.”
"Be thar a way ye can fix me system?" he asked hanging his head defeated. He knew he would get nowhere arguing with her.
"Ah-" she paused. BLIM glared at her. "Blending Limited Eco and Inner Current Mediator don't you look at me that way," she said with a giggle and fake stern face.
"That ain't me name," he gritted out.
"I believe it is. Would you prefer," she paused again thinking, "Blimey Little Insane Mollusk Cleaning Mechanism," she said mocking his new voice. Frowning in confusion she mumbled, "maybe Matey would fit better." BLIM threw his hands up shaking his head.
"Enough wit yer bilge. Git on with it!" he said plopping back onto his cushion.
"You're much more fun this way,” Fawn said with a laugh. Seeing his glare her smile faded. "Fine," she grumbled. "I'll fix it."
"Tis the last time I let ye touch me," BLIM said.
Fawn clicked her tongue. "You always say that." Entering her key code the tiny hinge popped open. Humming softly to herself she began to dig through the wires and circuit boards. Yelping in surprise when another spark erupted she blew on her fingers and gave BLIM a nervous laugh. "I swear, I know what I am doing," she said with failed confidence. "Sort of," she whispered to herself.
“Ye should be slavin’ over books studying, not wonderin’ over to Moss’s quarters,” BLIM retorted. A small blush bloomed on Fawn’s cheeks.
“That is purely a physical thing, we have terms and an agreement.”
“The poor lad he be,” BLIM sighed sadly. “Blimey, ye have the lass floppin’ round like a sea bass on a ye hook.” Fawn ignored him concentrating.
“Got it!” exclaimed Fawn as BLIM’s body jerked. Narrowing is eyes in disbelief he prepared himself for the worst.
“Fawn if you cannot fix-“ he paused. “Good,” he said with a nod. Stretching his body snapped the panel closed and gathered his things.
“Not even a thank you?” she called out to him as he left their living quarters. Fawn smiled brightly yelling, “Oi ye matey! Don’t ye walk away from jolly Cap’tn Fawn!”
“Don’t be late Fawn,” BLIM called over his shoulder as he waved her off. Fawn laughed to herself as she watched him leave. Feeling the fresh ocean breeze she leaned over the railing looking out into the crystal clear water. The Methri fleet ventured off the Idra current to careen their ships. Fawn loved the way the water grew lighter in color and she could see the bottom. The population craved a break from the current and maintenance to the ships needed tending to.
Dazing off into the horizon, Fawn watched the large clouds float through the blue sky. The Methri experienced an odd wet season. Larger then normal storms frequently blew up from Ipo and Entikor creating super storms. The cold air from the far south fused with the heavy humidity from the east. The storms gained momentum over the Methri Ocean before arriving at the fleet. The damage done to the armada’s ships was significant. Fawn prayed the wet season would quickly ebb.
A loud horn blew in the distance and Fawn moved her gaze towards the gathering population many levels below. Staring for a moment before snapping out of her daydream Fawn quickly grabbed her harness and supplies before rushing out the door. “Please don’t give me extra duties, please” she prayed as she scurried down the sides of buildings jumping onto a landing.
Waving in apology to the elderly couple enjoying tea, she ran towards the crowd. Pushing her way through she ignored the complaints behind her. Yelping in shock she stumbled into a hard chest. Staggering backwards, Fawn fell onto the hard metal floor of the upper deck.
“Fawn?” Moss said in confusion. Rubbing her leg Fawn glanced at him with a bright smile.
“On time!”
“Dazing off again?” he said arching a thick eyebrow. He extended a hand helping her to her feet. Fawn brushed off her tanned legs and stood up. She scanned the crowd over Moss’s head. Trying to extend his height, Moss frowned.
“Sorry,” she said refocusing on him. She knew he hated it when she looked over his head. Growing up he the tallest of the pair, until they hit puberty over a decade ago. Now Fawn was over two inches taller. He instead grew thicker and wider rather than taller. “Had to work out a glitch with BLIM.”
“Break him again?”
She waved a hand. “Pff, no.” He raised both eyebrows at her and she laughed. “Ok, maybe a little bit. I would have kept him in full force pirate mode, but we are sailing to the Jyep today after we careen.”
“Full force pirate mode?” Moss shook his head. “Are you coming over again tonight?” he asked with a cough, but Fawn already lost focus and dodged into the crowd. Moss sighed and watched her retreat into the crowd.
AN: I couldn't help myself and started my NaNoWriMo story early. Just one a side note, during the actual NaNo I do no editing and proofread pretty quickly (If I proofread at all) So please ignore all grammar mistakes and such. I try to hash out the words and in December go back and edit/proofread better. :D
