I may regret thinking this, Davo thought, but Five Triangles is filled with horrible-minded people.
That's right, the Magon at the Academy tells lies about Nigon. There were several instances where the four Westerners discussed the subjects they were taught after class in their newfound club (which Five Triangle Arts was so persistent about creating due to the fact that no one treats the Westerners well, although fifths may not create distinctive groups or clubs (the teacher of their class is the main influencer in this situation), and word eventually reached Dei Eslient's assistant, as the principal himself was too busy with different matters; though a fun fact: everyone knows that the principal adores Westerners, for whatever reason), which gained a few other Westerners' attentions, and they all agreed that there is a huge bias on the image of Nigon. Once, a teacher overheard them and, rather than scolding them, told them that there are different general personalities and actions that regional Nigon commit. As if she was describing animals. When the Westerners asked why all Magon were supposedly the same but Nigon were different, the teacher told them that Magon and Nigon are different species! Astonishing that they would think such! All Westerners are taught at a young age that everyone is a descendant of an ancient Magon people. It isn’t just a part of their religion, it was part of their traditions and beliefs.
"They might think we have heresy," Malro, the blind boy, guessed, after academic hours in the small clubroom, "But they have worse intentions than us. We're just trying to become a part of the Scentral wholenation, but these demons have decided to create a new generation full of hate for Nigon."
"And my mother is Nigon, too," the new girl in the club commented, "I want to defend her, even if it means heresy."
"Most of us have Nigon ancestors," Davo chipped in, "Since the Freirs allowed marriage between Magon and Nigon in their rule. Some Westerners are even distant relatives to the Freir bloodline." I should slowly have my countrymen converted to believing that Freirs are a key, he thought.
"Indeed," Malro agreed, "Though not all of us may be related to them directly, and few of us are related as fifth cousins or the sort, the Freirs are still brothers and sisters in faith. I wouldn't like the teachers to hear that, though, too daring..."
"We would be expelled from the academy and maybe even banned from the county," Amaliva mumbled.
"Sadly," an older newbie said with sorrow, "That may be true."
"Enough gloom," Ek, the scar one, interjected, "We should just enjoy ourselves in the privilege of this Academy."
"He's right," Amaliva agreed, "At least we weren't caught by brigands or the Not-So-Secret Academy under the hill."
"Oh, that?" the older inquired, "I heard rumors, but I have come to know that they despise Nigon. And Westerners, too."
"Whatever the case," Davo commented, "Let's continue with the enjoyment while we still can." He grabbed a glass filled with water and drank a sip of it. The others joined in, taking in water to drown their worries. If only it were ale, they all unconsciously thought in unison.
"Then we're an official club group?" Amaliva wondered aloud.
"Yes, we are."
"Lovely."
"To an extent," Ek warned.
"Enough gloom?"
"Of course."
"So!" Malro announced, "The year is half gone! We should try to become more known, so we can be better than fourths. Being a fifth is horrible..."
"More physical exercise than magical..."
"You're right about that, the two of you," the new girl said, "But what about getting to fourths then thirds? We Westerners are only excellent in healing, not fighting. Most of us here are pacifists."
"Imillia, dearie," Amaliva began to answer, "We have to fight for once in our lives. We have to fight to get to the top!"
"Very true," the older one said.
"But very necessary, Kekie."
"It's Keko..."
"K-Kekie is nice... though," Imillia stuttered.
"Hey, I'm going to my dorm," Ek mumbled, glancing between the two newcomers, "C'mon, Malro. I still need a copy of that key."
"Mhm. You'll have to be my guide dog though."
"Woof woof. Bark. Grrrrr." Malro pet the strange boy's head, who was now munching on a biscuit like a dog on a bone.
"... And this is why Westerners are looked down upon," Amaliva stated, taking in the scene with baffled interest.
"And this is why Southerner-Westerner breeds shouldn't be in the Westerner club," Davo sighed.
"Bu tehr ow countweemem mundewesh," Ek muttered through the biscuit, eating the rest of it.
"So, Ek, are you always this peculiar? I find you to be the odd man out."
"Yes. Is there a problem?" He looked at Davo with a straight face.
"No, no, just... you're the odd one. That's all."
"And he cleans the room regularly," Malro added, "He's a good one. Odd, but good."
"I only wish my scores could be good," Ek sighed, "This physical exertion isn't good for a Westerner."
"Cheer up, lad," Keko beamed, "And we're off." He motioned for Imillia to follow him.
"Those two are together all the time," Amaliva commented after the two left the moderately small room.
"I think that they have a brother-sister relationship in Keko's eyes, but a bittersweet relationship in Imillia's," Malro guessed, "She seems to be fond of him. Anyways, Ek, let's go as well."
"Woof," Ek obliged. The two strange roommates left the room, leaving only the Freir and half-breed former slave-girl alone.
"Davo," Amaliva started, "You aren't from Ashvensa, are you?"
"Hm?" Davo choked, starting to sweat slightly from the girl's odd suspicion, "W-why would you think that?"
"Ashvensa is a province with Centre Land people. Not many Westerners stay there anymore, and those that do aren't blue-haired."
"What?"
"Don't worry, friend, I won't tell anyone that you're a rebel's child." She glided outside the room, leaving only the fake now to sit in shock.
Anxiety built up inside of the Freir. Davo thought he was found out. What would he do? Does Amaliva know he's a Freir? Would his fellow Westerner do anything about this, or would she act as if nothing had happened?
