Now that you know at least the main characters from the region, I will bring you into action by explaining a historical event, the civil war called the Fifty Year's War, although technically it did not last for 50 years, which is behind the formation of both galactic entities.
Would you rather hear about the heroic uprising for freedom, or the cowardly betrayal of the brothers of the republic?
I will reveal to you both versions, you probably already know which countries have chosen what.

Heroic uprising
As already mentioned, the main protagonists of the uprising against the original Galactic Republic are Eliss, Leviss and Damian.
Eliss led a predominantly female uprising, paradoxically for the rights of men.
Feminism at that time was on such a level that it radically restricted not only men but also women, for example it forbade women from doing some jobs, mostly "typical of women", as they would say. This led the struggle for equality.
Leviss was one of the most gifted experts on modern technology throughout the Galactic Republic, his work greatly aided the rebel's advancement, and sometimes even directly helped them win (for example, in defence of the Lower Žleb in the Czech Republic, widely used by rebels for its nature, when he hacked the system of several battle robots of the Galactic Republic, and reprogrammed them to defend the rebels right on the battlefield).
Damian first began the revolt on Mars, he was acting as a psychological support for the entire rebellion, his education, kindness and libertarianism inspired the emergence of a new Church of Libratian.
During the battle for mines in the northern part of Mars, he sacrificed himself to save the children imprisoned here (child labor was widely used on Mars).

For the first two years, the rebellion was scattered as the original creators began it, then merged into an organized network of resistance.
It was not a war as such, but full of intrigue, traps and guerilla warfare.
In fact, it was not even fighting for territory, but rather about who will give up earlier.
The main aim of the rebellion was to gain control of the planets not known, not already colonized systems, but thousands of light years distant new planets. So we can say that the whole heroic uprising was "only" to distract the Galactic Republic from settling distant planets.

Betrayal of brothers
The Consortium, or the original Galactic Republic, interprets the whole thing differently.
For them it was not an uprising for freedom, but a mere treachery. The rebels did not like the way the Republic was led, and instead of democratically raising their objections, they began to attack from the back like cowards, attacking the weakest points and systematically weakening the state they were helping to build themselves. The Galactic Republic, greatly damaged by the war, has disintegrated as a community of Earth's nations and the Consortium has taken its place: originally economic cooperation that has grown into a super-state controlling almost everything that happens in individual states. Most of the states left for other planets, along with their capitals and governments, and the ravaged remnants of their original territories were left to their fate.

Although both sides officially agreed that no one actually won, they both tell to their citizens that they have won.
