I panicked. After a while of anxiously fidgeting with the door handle, the exit from the washroom finally opened with a slow creak. False alarm. I breathed a sigh of relief and silently closed the shiny blue metal door behind me. I tiptoed over to the sofa, careful not to make any sound, and sat down. Removing my phone from my pocket, I began to wonder who the mysterious person intruding the school was. Even though I pondered for a while, I couldn't think of anybody who would want to attack our small, not very well-known school. A criminal that picked our school at random? No one know at this point. I turned on my phone and took a look at the battery percentage. 53%. The percentage was a bit low. It was 11:36 right now, a bit after the time that lunch would be starting if the school wasn't under lock down.636Please respect copyright.PENANAVHFGV6GM7Q
I opened the news app on my phone to see what was new. I searched for an article on any escaped criminals, but I couldn't find any. Either this was someone who had not done something like this before, or someone who did but was released from jail. And of course, there was the possibility that someone had escaped from behind bars but no one mentioned it to avoid stirring up panic in the community. I refreshed my news feed and found that a new article had popped up at the top of the page.
BREAKING NEWS: TRUMP PLANS TO NUKE CANADA AFTER FEUD WITH TRUDEAU
I started to feel weak and my knees turned to rubber. I shook violently as I read the headline over and over again. After a few minutes or so, I felt ready to read the article. Throughout the article, it mentioned how Trump, the president of America and the prime minister of Canada had an argument. Trump told Trudeau to shut up, and things escalated from there. At the end of the fueled feud, Trump decided that he would nuke some parts of Canada, TODAY! Trudeau responded by sending some troops over to the US. Among the places that Trump would nuke was THE ENTIRE ONTARIO. I was screwed. We all were.
This was the definition of catastrophic. First, I had forgotten my homework and Ms. Robespierre went insane. She had stapled a sheet of homework to my arm, and then proceeded to lock me in the staffroom after I became unconscious. Then, an unidentified armed man walked right into the school which put the school into lockdown mode. He was still here. Hopefully lastly, Trump and Trudeau had an argument and now all of Ontario, as well as some other provinces, were going to be nuked!
Looking around at the medium-sized staff room, I realized I needed to charge my phone. I got up from the old couch and stretched as I put my phone down on one of the grey circular tables. Walking around the staff room, I searched the teacher's purses for phone chargers, and eventually found a green snake skin purse that contained one compatible with my phone. I plugged it into the white outlet and began to charge my phone.
While I was charging my phone, I came to the realization that evacuation was a possibility. We might have to leave the province, or even the country. I searched the staffroom to find a bag to take with me in case we had to evacuate, and eventually found a dark green canvas backpack lying in a corner. I emptied out the few papers that resided in it, and got to packing. First I went to the kitchenette and gathered a few useful items. I threw in a few cans of carbonated water and a few water bottles to drink. In case there was no available food, I also inserted a box of crackers, a box of granola bars, and a few apples and mandarin oranges, which most likely belonged to Madame Iaz, our French teacher. I walked over to the corner where the first aid kit sat, and picked up the small container of first aid equipment. I put it in the backpack, in case an injury occurs. I found a compass, roll of duct tape, and emergency blanket scattered around the room, so I picked them up and put them in my evacuation kit. I also happened to find a few classical novels, so in they went. I miraculously found some soap, a toothbrush, and some toothpaste, so I made sure they were part of the kit. I always carried a purse with me, even at school, so I put the purse inside of the backpack so I would only have one bag to carry. I soon discovered that my phone had finished charging, so I put it in the canvas sack along with the charger. Deciding that it would be a good idea, I also included a notebook and a pen inside of my new backpack. I put in some scissors for self defence, and zipped up the now-full backpack.636Please respect copyright.PENANAjcBxRI9qPg
Suddenly, I was interrupted by a deafening sound. Can you guess what it was?
It was a gunshot.
