CHAPTER 9 (See no Evil - see no Angels)
She lay in the dark. Still pretending she is sleeping. It’s too late now. He loomed over her. She dare not open her eyes, all she did was pray. “I gave you six years, now I will give you six seconds.” Spikes protruded through the bed into her flesh. She would not scream, even though the pain was intolerable. He pushed down. Her body impaled, she went limp. He removed his hand and went to the bathroom. The blood had splattered all over his face, and shirt. “Always the heart, the fear increases the tempo, and then you get soaked.” He drew a smiley face on the mirror while he waited for the water to warm up.
“The Angels started this mess, they can clean it up as well.” He washed what blood he could off him. Then went into Tessa bedroom. “Don’t scream, I have just fired your boss, so now you have new employment.”
Tessa knew better, she would not scream, she had endured every kind of abuse imaginable. She closed her eyes. Darkness claimed her. “Dear God, remember me.” But God was nowhere to be found.
Star watched them go. He shot up to heaven, transformed into his true form. He had a tale to tell, and one that will have heaven on high alert. This war had been fought for too long, and it always ends and starts the same. A human sacrifice, and the Angels against, well mostly other Angels. The demons, well they are pawns in this game, as for the humans no one really knew what their roles are any more. They seem to be for procreation only, because their faith had weakened considerably.
Hunter had left Sam in a safe place. The scene that he stared at startled him. He looked at Thomas. “We should have known better, is the girl in her room?”
“No, he took her, there is a blood trail all the way to her room. And then that.” Thomas pointed at the mirror. “Sick bastard.” Hunter rubbed his chin. Blood was everywhere, he wanted to close Lydiana’s eyes, that dead stare freaked him out. But he couldn’t approach the bed. “Thomas, did he stab her to death?” Thomas shook his head. “No, much worse, he turned her bed into a bed of nails.”
Hunter shuddered. “He will never give up, even though we have the boy, we have both, he will create another until he is free. Call the cops. I can’t do this Thomas, forgive me.” Thomas dialled the emergency number.
Sam was fast asleep on his bed. Hunter watched him for a second. Then he went down stairs. “Samuel, I think we made a huge mistake.” Hunter poured a cup of coffee. Samuel didn’t look up. Even Ryan was quiet.
Ariel stood one side, she no longer trusted these men, they had an air of superiority about them, even if they didn’t notice it. Ryan well, he was a God, but a humble being, he didn’t ask for any of this. She, well she made a choice, and followed, instead of leading. The game changes all the time, and there are no winners or losers, not yet, not until Michael comes to town. “Are you going to allow him, to create another one of those?” Ariel pointed up at the bedroom. Samuel frowned. “We are not allowing anything Ariel, we can’t control him.” She grinned. “I don’t believe you, I don’t believe any of you. Since you got your glory back, you all have changed, you no longer trap, and you allowed the six to roam free, three-thousand years back, they would have been put to death, hybrids or not. But you all, yes you Samuel, Thomas, Michaelus and Hunter are playing God down here, or you up and abandon us all together. You played Lydiana like a fool, and now she is dead, another innocent victim. Is that what you tell yourselves?”
Hunter looked at Samuel. He had led, and they had followed, pretty much as they did in the beginning. Are they better than the Fallen, are they playing by their own rules? Samuel heard his thoughts. He stood up and tried to intimidate Hunter with his size. That was not going to well, Hunter outweighed him, by twenty pounds, Hunter punched him, they fought.
This was Samuel’s master plan, to kidnap the boy. Yes because that worked so well in the past. Ariel watched them fight, this was not her fight. She left the degenerates to fight it out, because more blood will fix, the enormity of their mistakes. She went and searched for Tessa. “If he wants a boy, he will have to procreate here on earth, while he borrows a body, and these morons never thought about that, fact. She went back to Lydiana’s home, the cops were all over the place, well that is the most gruesome murder this little town has seen in a while. She picked up the blood-trail, the scent was distinct, humans smelt different to demons, and Angels, she had been a trapper long enough to know the difference. She found him, and she needed back up. If she could save this girl and exorcise him, for now, it’s a start. Ryan was at her side, she hopped. “I agreed with you, Ariel, not those macho air-heads, I am as much to blame. I will have to kill the host-body, you exorcise him, the second I have ripped the heart from the chest, ready?” Ariel nodded. They burst through the door. Ryan was fast, he never saw this coming, the heart in his hand, Ariel said the mantra. She knew she had just painted a target on her forehead, but it was worth seeing the defeat in his eyes. That done, she picked up Tessa. “Did he?” Tessa shook her head no. “Hold on Tessa, I will get you to safety.” Tessa closed her eyes. “Thank you God.”
Ryan didn’t stay either, his job was done, now to deal with Sam, no he would not kill a child, but Ariel was right, the six keep popping up, it’s time to put an end to his terror.
Ryan explained to the others what he and Ariel did. “You two, go wash up, damned fools, the both of you.” Hunter and Samuel literally tried to beat the life out of each other. “Thomas, it has gone too far, the fact that Tyler is alive, and now Sam. This is blasphemy, and you know it. Ariel was right, we walked in there knowing it would lead to Lydiana’s death. Now we have this boy, and the blood in him, is the purest to date, I don’t know if I can allow Sam to live.” That statement got the whole rooms attention. “Ryan, we will fight you, and you are outnumbered, that boy, is our blood we will not allow you to kill him.”
“What a strange contradiction you are, Samuel. So the loss of human lives means no never mind to you?” Ryan was getting angry, his true-form was starting to show. The smoke or clouds started to form around him like a mantel. “I will fight you, Ryan, for that boy. Please don’t, I don’t want to fight you.” Samuel begged, he knew he could not kill Death, and he could not be killed, but to lose this alliance, that would be the real crime here. Ryan looked at the Angels, these he called friends. He could not allow this, he was wrong, to have had any part in this game, he was as, if not more responsible for Lydiana’s death. He weighed out his options, the Angels would lose, this fight, and be sent back to heaven, then who will defend the humans? They could not read his thoughts, so he disappeared. Samuel looked at Hunter. “Now what?”
“How the hell should I know, go check on the boy.” They all tried to run up the stairs at once. Sam was gone. “Oh fuck, we are in deep shit”, cussed Thomas. “Thomas, get Tyler. Ryan will assemble all the Keys, just go”, ordered Samuel. Samuel called Ariel.
“You win, you are right, we are wrong, now what will Ryan do with the Keys?” Ariel looked at Samuel in utter confusion. “How must I know, I am not the Reapers keeper.” Samuel was taken aback. “This was not your plan?”
“No, Samuel, this was his plan, one I had not even known existed, great trust you all have, so open with each other, no duplicity at all, not an Angel in this room that won’t stab the other in the back.”
Samuel could not argue, the truth was that smiley face, Hunter had “shown” him. They were the real idiots, thinking they could outsmart a deceiver, and the God of death. “Let’s go to Thomas’s manor. I will light a violet flame, one that is only visible to Angels, I am scared, to think we really fucked up.”
They lit candles all over the manor, Ariel, Hunter and Thomas cleared a space for them to sit, they found a bottle, and had a drink, and they waited. Michaelus watched over the violet-flame. He was in a total twist, this was getting out of hand, and they are playing the cards, the enemy wants. Ryan is right, they are damned fools, they will end up, being kicked out again, if they do not rectify this faux pass. Thomas returned empty handed. “Now, what do we do?” asked Thomas. Samuel was thinking. “Ryan doesn’t want the keys to unite, so he will scatter them, in places, he will fear to tread, we need to get the keys back, and we will have to take them to other places, places Angels will fear to tread.” Hunter shook his head. “This is madness.”
“I agree.” They sat and wrote down the destinations they would have chosen. Samuel stuck the names and the destinations on the wall. “There are only five of us, and by now seven keys. Remember that old fishing cabin up in the woods? They nodded. “We will regroup after five hours, we will sedate the boys, so they don’t run away, Hunter explain this to your doctor friend before you leave, ask him for a sedative, once we have all the boys, I will go ask the Elders what we must do.”
They left, each in a different direction. Hunter found Tyler, he’s rapport with him was still intact. From then on smooth sailing. Samuel found Rodger, Thomas found Sam and Tal, Ariel found Dennis and Richard, and Michaelus found Shane. Samuel blessed the cabin, and put the boys to bed. He went down stairs. “We have a problem, we have not been on earth for way too long, the first six-key have passed their expiry date. Guys, they are too old, I asked Shane how old he is, he is thirteen.”
Some clapped their hands. “Oh finally, an Angel with a brain.” Blue eyes bore into Samuel. “I am here for my son, the rest, as you can clearly see, I have no use for, I only want what is mine, you can do with the other’s as you want to.”
Sweat was pouring down Hunter’s face. “Check-mate.” He applauded again. Ryan entered the room. “I told you, you all were damned. Now give him his boy, or its lights out for those boys, as you know, I am responsible for the first cradle-death, killing teenagers, well that won’t make me lose sleep.”
“Ryan?”
“Samuel, I am Switzerland, I chose no sides, you all messed up, and well, I am the clean-up crew.”
Samuel felt bewildered, he placed these children directly in harm’s way, he even led Him right to his son. “Take the boy and leave.” Blue eyes bore into Samuel. Samuel held up his hands, and tucked in his wings. “Not worth the blood-shed.” He went, grabbed Sam, wrapped him in a blanket and flew off. Ryan started to transform. “Ryan, no. those boys are innocent, they can no longer be used, and Tyler is up there.”184Please respect copyright.PENANASBLcQ7mEEM
“Oh, I see, you thought, I allowed you to bring the boys here to be set free again? No.”
Thomas grabbed, his dagger, and opened his wings. “Not my son, Ryan.”
“We will see, now won’t we, Thomas.” They collided in mid-air, the more Thomas stabbed at Ryan the less, damage it did, well it did nothing, the fact is you can’t stab air. Ryan flung Thomas through a wall. He was slightly winded, but up again, Hunter and Samuel stood on the stairs. Ryan flew past them. “Shit.” They tried to grab hold of him, but it was unsuccessful. He stopped at Tyler. Tyler begged for his life. “No, can do son.” He stabbed Tyler in the heart, Thomas screamed and ran to his son. Ryan left. “I am so sorry, I am so terribly sorry.”
“Thomas, we need to take their souls to heaven. Each of you excluding Ariel, grab the souls, let’s get them out of here.”
“I can’t find Tyler.” Thomas looked everywhere. “Samuel, I can’t find Tyler!”
“I heard you, take Shane, and get out, I will deal with this, and get your asses back here, we have a Reaper to catch. Ariel find Ryan.” Ariel glared at Samuel, the other Angels were on their way up.
“I don’t work for you, Samuel.” Samuel grabbed hold of her hair. “Then who do you work for? Him?”
Ariel kicked Samuel in the sensitive are and left. He would need an ice-pack or six, after that kick. Hunter was back, Samuel still lay on the floor in a fetal-position. “What the hell happened to you? And the boys were accepted. Please get up, we need to find Tyler, then Sam.” Samuel sat on his haunches, catching his breath. “Bitch.” Hunter raised an eyebrow. “Oh, ouch.” Samuel left, Hunter followed, Michaelus and Thomas joined them. Ariel returned when the Angels had left. “So predictable, always looking out for number one, well boys, choose a new home, then follow me.” Tal was the first one up. “Goddess, where must we go?”
“Just follow me, boys, and I will teach you how to, how shall I put it, kill an Angel. They all had each other, and they left me like a stray dog on the side, well today, I have my own family, we fight together, and we will survive together, I am your Mother, the giver of life, swear your alliance to me.” They did. And they followed her. Ariel finally felt free, free to make her own choices, free to live. Tal was the youngest, yet the tallest, Shane was handsome. Richard a little slow, but strong, Dennis, well he was nearly sixteen, and Ariel had other ideas for this handsome devil, Rodger was a born leader. “You see, guys, I see your worth, now live, and do not disappoint me.” They opened their wings and followed Ariel. What Ariel had created, were the combination, of a Fallen, a demon and a human. She named the hybrids, the Fadehu. They would serve her well.
They became the five, the five most feared hybrids on earth, Ariel taught them, trained them, turned them into killers, they took to it, they wanted to serve, mostly Tal, he wanted that crown, he would fight his way to the top, he wanted Ariel, so that meant he had to get rid of her pet, Dennis. Oh and he will. Time makes you a man.
Hunter was the one to catch the news report. “Hey shut up, and listen to this, all over Tuscany, there are reports of a serial killer. The Mo, is always the same, the PERP, kills only men, any men obviously, no one will report a Fallen’s death. We know the bodies disappear, but, this detective, has noticed missing bodies, and a shit load of feathers, he suspects, it’s a gang. The killers, enter a home any way they can, they tie up the victim. Then they torture them, once they have what they want, they bleed the victim to death, at every crime scene there has been a bucket, the problem, is, the bucket is always empty. Now guys, did any of us, burry the five-keys?” They looked at each other, hoping one of them would nod yes, no one did.
Samuel stood up, they had been on Tyler’s trail for months, whom ever took him, had plans for that soul, and the plans could not be good, because, Alessandro, was found dead in his bed, so was Rosie and Mattie the cook, they all knew Tyler in life. “We never went back for them either, all this blood is on our hands”, said Samuel, while he sipped his drink.
“Who do you think is behind the resurrection of the five?” asked Hunter. Samuel thought about it, but he had no clue. “I don’t know, I think Ryan is out of the game for now, he did what he did, and believed that would be the end, I never heard from Ariel again, and I don’t think we will, she blames us for all the deaths. You don’t think it is Tyler’s spirit that is taking revenge, do you?” Hunter shrugged. “It could be, but not the five, we took their souls to heaven. Do you think we could trust this detective?”
“I don’t want more blood on my hands, Hunter.”
“Too late for that, brother, I think we need to bring that detective over, and have us a nice chat, it might just save his life.” Samuel agreed. “We kind of know where Tyler is, so the sooner we get to the serial killer, or killers, we can find Tyler, it seems in death, the dark-side won, but it is plausible, that he is possessed, or that he possessed a body, guys, I don’t know, okay, I really don’t know.” Detective Lorenzo Esposito was tied to a chair in the living room. He was calm, he had no recollection as to how he got here, he was asleep in his bed, then woke up here, from his experience in the homicide-division. He knew these men, where not killers, nor the gang he was looking for. So he waited for the leader to talk. He was the tallest, but not quite as broad as the darker man by the door, no, that one had a look about him. The other one, with the light hair, was the observer, he was too quiet, and lastly, the youngest, was without a doubt related to the leader. They followed his every command, and they seemed to be communicating without moving their lips. No, I honestly do not think they are aliens, but my gut says, they are not human either.
“We mean you no harm detective.”
“Call me Renzo, all my friends do, and I don’t think you are my enemy.” Samuel untied Renzo. “Would you like a drink, sir?”
“Yes, please, anything with a kick, I have a feeling I am going to need it.” Hunter smiled, and handed the detective the bottle and a tumbler. “This bad, hey?” Hunter nodded, and took his chair by the door, not that he thought the man would try and run, out of habit, he watched the darkness.
“My name is Samuel, these are my brothers. Hunter, there by the door, Michaelus, over there, and my son Thomas. We are pleased to make your acquaintance, detective Lorenzo Esposito. Has Giorgia’s flu cleared?” Renzo nodded. No one knew she suffered from chronic-colds, the weather was harsh on his wife, and he feared for her life most days.
“As I said, we are not your enemy, so as a sign of good faith, and trust, your wife will be healed. We need your help in another matter, so I shall start at the beginning, please don’t scream.” Samuel opened his wings, and enfolded Renzo, he calmed down, and Samuel purged. Renzo, frowned a few times, poured another drink, then he listened, attentively.
“So killer number two, might be a ghost?” Samuel nodded. “Yes, he knows all the people, he has killed to date, they sort of took care of him until he was six, do you think as a detective, that he would kill the Fletcher’s?” Renzo nodded. “Samuel, I think he doesn’t care who he kills, he feels betrayed by all of you, especially, you Thomas, so even if the Fletcher’s were good to him, he is sending a direct message to you, you are next.” Thomas nodded. “Yes, detective, you are right. Come Hunter, let’s try and save those people.” They flew off. Renzo sat in awe.
“We are good friends with doctor Andrea Russo and his Mother Guila, so don’t feel odd, we do have human friends.”
“I don’t feel odd, Samuel, I feel honoured. May I ask a few questions?” Samuel nodded.
“You say the Reaper, your friend, Ryan killed the boys, right, to put an end to the keys?” Samuel nodded. “From what I see, he created a new breed, five of the most deadly beings on earth, much like he is, created out of wrath. Can they kill a Fallen?”
“Yes, they can, the Fallen are good and bad, we were a little of both, until we received forgiveness and our glory, but we messed up, again, we should have buried those boys, I don’t think Ryan created the five. He has no need for them, he is Death, he doesn’t need to create it. I don’t know who did. I can say, it’s not Sam’s Dad, no. He had other ideas, and he was done with the Six, they are too old. As for Ariel, she left us, because of the humans deaths, I don’t know her that well, but, she is a trapper, not a mass murder.
Honestly, Renzo, I need fresh eyes on this situation, so please, here is no judgement, say what is in your heart.”
Hunter and Thomas returned. The expression on their faces said it all. Hunter handed his phone to the detective, the North Pole was way out of his jurisdiction. “This is not the same perp, look, they have been mutilated and crucified, the others, were suffocated to death, what we would call a clean death, I don’t think Tyler did these, too gruesome.”
“The gang?” asked Thomas.
“No, I don’t think the Sons of Sam, will murder humans, and from what you told me, I don’t think the Sons of Sam, knew the Fletcher’s existed.”
“Sons of Sam?” asked Samuel. “Yeah that’s what the reporters called them, and the name stuck, my apologies.” Samuel shook his head. “No offence taken, it’s fitting, more than I can tell you. Sam is the name we associated with Lucifer, for thousands of years, and now and then it still pops up, so yes, these boys were supposed to be his key out of hell, so if the shoe or the name fits why change it. Hunter, any clues left, anything to tell us who killed the Fletcher’s?”
“No prints, no sulphur. We checked for, any demonic-activity, none, we looked for Nackk, he is the bogeyman, detective, and please take this as seriously as a car accident, he is real. No one broke in, all the doors and windows were locked. This is a message, because, he crucified me in Hell. So I have to wonder, if young Sam, has been the ultimate skeleton-key, that the six-keys were only a game. It gets very confusing detective, hence why we desperately need your advice.”
“Hunter hand me your phone. You said your wife was crucified, along with you, then gruesomely murdered in her bed, did any of you see, her spirit leave? Did you attend her funeral?” They all shook their heads no. “Did Lydiana know about the Fletcher’s?” Samuel nodded. “Then you have your culprit, Hunter, you said there was a smiley face, on her bathroom mirror, obviously drawn in her own blood, well look here. I want to come with, can you smuggle me in, I need to see, this for myself, but first, I need to shower and get changed, you obviously know my address, give me an hour, and I will wait on my balcony, outside my bedroom.” Hunter flew Renzo back home. They all showered and changed. Then picked him up. “Close your eyes if you get scared.” Said Samuel.
“And miss all the fun, oh hell no.” Renzo smiled up at the Angel. He had told his wife, and she still didn’t believe him, even though she was cured, so he told her to watch the balcony, well that should make a believer out of her. He was happy, his faith, and all he prayed for, was true, all of this will make him the best man he could be. That God, allowed His Emissaries to befriend him, well that was more than he had ever asked for, and now he is flying to the North Pole, in the arms of an Angel.
They entered the house through a window, the bodies had been taken away, but the smell of blood and death hung in the air. Hunter noticed Lydiana. He nudged Samuel, she was sitting in a corner rocking back and forth. Samuel hid Renzo, behind Hunter. “Lydiana.” She looked up at Samuel. He waited for her to react. “I am sorry, I don’t know why I killed them, just send me away, Samuel, and Tyler was here, he is lost, he tried to stop me, he didn’t want me to kill them, but I wanted to.” Samuel read her, her last Rites, then exorcised her spirit. “Renzo, what happens next, please, do not make a sound, this is not us, we do not judge, this order comes from a superior, you should understand that well.” Renzo heard the growling, then two large animals burst through the doors, they were larger than wolves. Lydiana reappeared, she screamed in pain as they tore her to pieces, then her “body” reform, and they pulled her out the door. They disappeared into the snow.
