"So, you must be Jayce Bertice," the red-haired woman said, crossing the room as she slid her hands into her white lab coat pockets. "I'm surprised how large this department is."
Said person turned slightly, brushing his green bangs from out of his vision to gaze upon the one who had addressed him. He gave a small smile though the other could tell it was slightly forced.
"You must be Dr. Harukana," the greenette said cheerfully, "and feel free just to call me Jay."
"Ah, if that is the case, call me Elle," the other replied, smiling sweetly before walking over to the large monitor with a full display of the city. "So, any word from dear Kay?"
She looked back to see the blue-eyed man tapping away at the keyboard though she was sure that the computer was off. As she walked over, Jay looked up at her curiously before turning his attention to the large display screen up front.
"Words from Kay?" he asked. "Um, he's ok, I suppose. When he left, he was mumbling some things…"
"Things?" Elle asked before blowing a strand of hair from her face. "What kinda' things?"
"Oh, how he was going to get me back and so forth…"
The woman arched a thin eyebrow as she stared at the man who had shrugged his shoulders in a nonchalant manner.
"And that doesn't bother you?" she asked.
"Oh, no, it bothers me a lot," Jay replied quickly.
"Well, you don't look scared to say the least."
The green-haired man beamed as he crossed the room. "I'm so scared that it just doesn't seem to register on my face anymore."
"Is Kay that scary or something?" Elle asked as she followed him over to a large three-dimensional map of Zen Tech City. "I mean, if he is, y-"
"Thanks but I'll worry about Kay later since he's not here," Jayce said earnestly, "until then-" He switched the screen so it would show the algorithm that he had been working on before the whole shock- a- phony- cyborg incident. "-do you think you can help me with this?"
Kaito walked along the halls, slipping into his Chemistry with a happy sigh since he made it before the bell. The whole lunch incident had been gnawing at him for the rest of his classes but seeing how this was his last class, the purplette wasn't going to let the raven bother him. After all, he could sit next to Robert and talk to him some more about a few things.
As usual, there weren't any seats along the front of the room nor in the middle. Shrugging his shoulders as he slid his bag off, Kaito rummaged through it to grab his black notebook as he walked over to the seat in the back next to the pinkette. However, when smoky eyes looked up from the bag, the violet-eyed teen stared at a smiling raven.
"Why are you in here?" Kaito asked quietly, not wanting to earn him any unwanted attention from his peers. "And you're in my seat..."
"Robert said I could accompany him to his classes," Ace replied nonchalant as his gaze slid towards the pinkette looking out the window. "I rather like this class." His burgundy eyes drifted back up to the one who was giving a slight glare. "I think this would be my favorite one."
"And why would this be your favorite class?" Kai asked, cursing himself mentally for even asking such a question.
"It's Chemistry." The purplette arched an eyebrow. "The name alone says it all," the raven said, placing his hand lightly on the pink-haired teen's shoulder. "Take us for example."
"Us?" Kaito asked with a small hiss, catching the pinkette's attention.
"Yes," Ace said, smiling. "Us as in Robert and I. We have perfect chemistry." He pulled the hazel-eyed teen into a hug, ignoring the small squirm that came from the one being embraced. "Perfect."
"A-Ace," Robbie stammered, wiggling to get one arm free. Once he had gain some freedom, he pushed the raven away before straightening his gakuran. "Jeez, you wanna' ask before you decide to glomp someone?"
Grey eyes lit up as a small smirk ticked in the corner of Kai's mouth. He subtly placed his hand over his mouth to stifle the small laughter he was beginning to feel at the pit of his stomach. Seeing the expression along the purplette's face, the PDA sighed and turned his attention to the flustered pinkette.
"I'm sorry," Ace murmured, looking down at the table before them. "I-I just wanted to show you how much I-" He bit down on his finger before allowing his eyes to drift off in Rob's direction. "I- never mind…"
The dejected look in the raven's eyes had Robert letting out a sigh of defeat. He stared at the PDA, his PDA, before looking out the window once more.
"It's fine," he said, tapping his fingers along the tabletop. "Just a bit of warning next time."
"Fine," the red-streaked individual said, turning to face the one gazing out the window. "I'm gonna' hug ya' now."
"Wha-"
The raven hugged the other, not allowing any room for the pinkette to push him off again. When he looked towards Kai, Ace smiled genuinely as he nuzzled the squirming teen under him.
"Ace!"
The bell rang and the teacher arrived, looking over the class before allowing her gaze to fall upon the trio in the back.
"Harukana, Neroma, and guest." All three turned towards the Chemistry teacher, an irritated glint evident in her brown eyes. "Neroma, there is a free seat at the table beside Harukana and guest."
"But-"
"Now, Neroma," Mrs. Tarris said, tapping her foot on the floor.
Kaito opened his mouth but snapped it shut as he walked over to the available chair and took a seat. He pulled his things out, on routine, and fished around for a writing utensil. Once had found a pen, the one that Robert had given him just the other day, he faced forward only to have the sneaking suspicion that someone was staring at him. As his eyes slid from the board to the window, he caught a glance of the already familiar smile of the PDA.
"This may have been the problem here," Elle replied, highlighting several areas of the problem on screen before zooming in. "Wait, is this algorithm pertaining to something extravagant?" Jay eyed her carefully. "What's this for?"
"I came up with it to see if what we obtained from our last project could possibly, if not, surpass our knowledge of what went wrong so that it wouldn't happen again."
The woman's hazel eyes stared at the problem a bit longer. "A Nanites formula." She looked over at the greenette. "This was for a Nanites project," Elle said knowingly as she stared back at the screen, looking for any other hints. "Class G7-XT4." She ran her hand through her hair as she furrowed her brow. "Did you use those Nanites in the first project?"
"Uh, yes," Jayce replied.
The redhead's gaze never left the blue-eyed man. The hazel seemed to darken from a mixture of anger and worry before she looked at the algorithm. Her skilled fingers went to work on pulling up a blueprint of said class type machinery until it was present along the main viewing screen of the lab.
"Class G7-XT4 was dismissed a while ago, Dr. Bertice," Elle said thoughtfully before her eyes slid in the other's direction. "Do you know why?"
Jay stared back at her before looking up at the screen before. The woman was new to him. Yes, he had heard of her. Elle Harukana, an engineer in the nanotechnology department, a separate branch across the yard of the complex they worked for. She was respectable, likeable in other words but her tone reminded him slightly of Kay's. Then there was her gaze. Though it may not have been intentional, her eyes gave off a feeling that they were analyzing you, waiting for you to mess up.
"Jay."
"Uh, enlighten me, Dr. Harukana."
"Ok,first, you can call me Elle," she said gently before highlighting another code along the screen. "Class G7-XT4 Nanites were dismissed do to the fact that they were defective and highly volatile."
"Oh…" the greenette drawled.
"But, luckily, you two had learned from the previous trial of your testing and disposed of the rest." Jay twiddled his thumbs before placing them in his coat pockets. "Right?"
"R-right," Jay stammered before crossing the room. "Anyway, thank you but I must step out to make a call now. Carry on with whatever you were doing a few moments ago."
And with that, the green-haired man hurried out of the room and pulled out his own holoscreen as well as his cell phone to speak with a bed-ridden brunette.
