ElectroKnight - Chapter 1:

The sun was barely rising over a back alleyway behind a sushi bar. A man was snoring loudly while he slept on a pile of trash bags and garbage. Next to him, sitting on top of a metal trashcan, was a black cat. It stood there and licked its paws while the man turned over in his sleep holding a trash bag, like he was hugging it. In his sleep, the man said quietly, “I swear…I found it down by the railroad tracks baby.” He continued to snore and rolled over again on his bed made of garbage. The cat was still licking its paw and was trying to fling a coin that seemed to be stuck to it. After a while, the cat was able to fling the coin off of its paw and let out a meow of relief. The sleeping man reached up and grabbed the cat and hugged it as he rolled over and said, “Come on in, the waters great.” While the cat tried to struggle and squirm its way free, the man continued to say, “Oh I possibly couldn’t. A gentleman doesn’t kiss and tell.” He even giggled when he finished his sentence. The bag next to them had part of a cut up fish protruding from it and the cat wiggled its way free, snatching the fish and ran a few feet down the alley way and began to eat it. While the cat was eating, he heard the sleeping mans voice, but this time the man’s shadow was looming over the cat. “Hey there little guy!” the man hiccupped after he spoke. “Hey, I’m a uh, what’s my name? Oh anyways Mr. Cat would you like to um.” As he spoke, he fell flat on his face passed out again. The cat watched him with a puzzled cat look and then went back to eating the fish.

Moments later another person stepped in front of the alleyway wearing a long white lab coat and had long brown hair and glasses. She walked up to the man passed out on the ground and knelt down to the cat in front of him and she said, “Good job Dimitri! You found him once again After petting the cat on its head, she reached into her pocket and pulled out a cooked tiny fish in a little baggie and gave it to Dimitri as he ran off to the entrance of the alley way and hopped in the back of a big white truck. The woman turned back to the sleeping man and began to shout, “Alright Clown! Wake up! We’ve been looking for you all night and here your drunk ass is passed out in an alleyway when you have a class to teach! What kind of example are you setting for the kids and your students pissing yourself drunk and eating out of the trash?” She slapped the man on his face a bunch of times until he appeared to be awake and she walked him back to the truck. She lowered the tail gate and violently tossed the drunk man into the bed of the truck and slammed the tail gate shut. The man was instantly asleep again by the time she opened her door, got in, and started the truck. The back window to the bed was open and the cat strolled inside the cab and sat next the lady in the lab coat. As they pulled away and got onto the nearest highway, she was on her phone with someone. “Yeah, Dimitri and I found him. He was passed out in a back alley behind the sushi place. Who knows, that’s where he’s been going lately in these drunken stupors. He doesn’t even like fish so somethings probably going on with him again. Yeah, about twenty minutes away. Yeah I’m gonna stop and give him a bath and we’ll be home soon.” She hung up the phone and got off the highway and entered a car wash establishment. She pulled up to a station with a handheld sprayer. After putting a few coins in and selecting a mode, the sprayer came to life. The tail gate flopped down, and she blasted the sleeping man with the sprayer. The man slept comfortably with a smile on his face as he was blasted head to toe with warm soapy water. She continued to blast him while she lit up a cigarette and took a long drag off of it. With one of her hands she reached over and switched the option on the sprayer to hot water only and continued spraying him until the timer ran out. Water was flowing out of the bed of the truck and onto the ground as she closed the tail gate and tossed the pack of cigarettes at the mans face, who was still sleeping.

While they pulled away down the street, the neighbor hood started to become less city like and appeared to be more wooded than the normal subdivisions. They came up to a somewhat large establishment that looked like an old high school campus surrounded by a large brick fence with a double door iron gate. She rolled down her window and shouted into a box on a poll with a speaker, “Recovery team has returned with the escapee.” The iron gate started to open, and she drove through it. On her right was a giant field with young men and woman wearing white robes and swinging practice swords about while others were throwing punches and sparring with one another. She pulled the truck to her left and entered a four-story parking garage that laid adjacent to a large school like building. After turning the truck off the lady stepped out and lowered the tail gate once again. She noticed the man was no longer sleeping in the back of the truck. She asked out loud, “Elliot?”

Elliot was now behind the giant school building in a shrine that was surrounded by a heavy dense wooded area. He sat in front of a giant portrait of what looked like a young couple and a small red headed girl smiling big. There were candles and incense burning that he had lit. Elliot was sobbing while he said out loud, “Sukudo turned twenty-one last night. We had a lot of fun with everyone, and I had her first legal drink with her. She’s gotten so big you wouldn’t believe it you guys. I gave her both of your swords as a present and I could tell she loved them. She looks so much like both of you its crazy. She looks just like you Alease and talks just like Ryell. I wish you guys could see her.” Tears fell from his eyes to his knees as he knelt there in silence. Next to the picture he was kneeling in front of was a series of other portraits lined up at their own offering stations. The room was dark, and the only visible light was from the candles and incense as they burned. He said quietly to himself, “If only. If only I could have saved you two.” More tears dropped from his face as he stood up and bowed to the picture. Outside he could hear some kind of commotion happening. He walked out of the shrine and from behind the school. In the large field in front of him there were two students in their white robes sparring in the middle of a large group of other students who were on the field. One of the male students was throwing punches at the other student. Every time he threw a punch, what looked like whirlwinds, were spawning out from his fists as little tornados directed at his opponent. His opponent was a young girl with silverish white hair that hung down to her shoulders. She was evading every attack with ease as she danced around him. She had a tiny white bow in her hair and was shorter than the man she was facing. As he punched at her and launched his whirlwinds, she dropped to the ground and swept his legs from out underneath him with her leg and as he fell, she uppercut him while she stood up. Her opponent went sailing backwards onto the ground and after a moment he stood back up. The crowd watching was cheering and applauding for the girl as she smirked.

The man grew angry and shouted, “Oh yeah? You want to see some action? Her ability is nothing compared to mine!” He drew his fists together as a giant whirlwind began to form around him. The girl imitated the man and locked her fists together and a whirlwind spinning the opposite direction of his started to spin around him. The two whirlwinds suddenly dissipated while the girl casually reached out with her hand and touched them before the man was taken away by the fierce winds. The man was slightly in the air and came crashing down to the ground. He stood up and shouted, “You bitch! I’ll get you this time!” He charged at her and threw a punch. She ducked below it and grabbed his fist as it flew over her shoulder and flipped the man onto his back then rolled over him and flipped him into a submissive hold. A teacher from within the crowd began to count. Once they counted to three the girl let go of the man and he went tumbling back onto his back. He cried out, “Damn Jazlynn, that was insane. I’ll never beat you at this rate. I guess your ability is a little better than mine. Jazlynn’s ability was known as wild card. Naturally, she could match or double the amount of force enacting on her body and reflect it in any direction she wanted. Her ability also had what’s called a sub ability, if she touches a person, she can inherit, up to a point, of the other Esper’s ability. She retained the inherited ability until she gains another one or falls asleep. Once asleep she loses any inherited ability and her normal ability is restored.

Jazlynn smiled pleasantly and bowed to the man while she said, “Good game.”

The man responded back, “You mean good match?”

Jazlynn said back, “No, good game.” She finished bowing and turned around and headed back to the small house on the corner of the field. The man stood there confused and repeated out loud, “Good game?” He didn’t know that Jazlynn was an avid online gamer. When she wasn’t in class or helping out with the younger children and students, she spent her time playing online video games. Despite her amazing ability she’d rather spend her time in the virtual world playing first person shooters and mass multiplayer online games. Inside the small dojo house, she took off her robe and changed back into her regular clothes. After dressing she grabbed her keys that were hanging on a hook in her locker. The keys had a little Gameboy Color key chain they were attached too. She grabbed her bag and headed for the door. She walked through the dojo area and standing in the entrance was Elliot.

He began to say, “That was quite impressive Jaz, you not only had your own ability under control, but you were able to inherit his Aero ability within an uppercut.”

Jazlynn said quite excitedly, “It’s all because of your training Elliot. Everything you teach me just makes sense and I’m able to utilize it all during combat. Even outside of my fighting I’m doing good too!” When Jazlynn’s main reflection ability awoken, she had thought that her mimic ability was the only one she had. She wasn’t able to control it and just rolling over in bed, she’d destroy her blanket, her bed, and pillows, even the whole room and her clothes would be destroyed. Elliot spent months to years helping her control her ability through meditation, physical exercise, and core strengthening. After all that time she has gained a larger amount of control over her abilities. She’s one of few at the whole school that had a main and sub ability. Jazlynn looked up at Elliot and said, “If only you had an ability Elliot. I’d love to fight you!”

Elliot laughed, “I can still beat you with no abilities. Don’t forget who teaches everyone around here how to utilize their abilities and find every way to expand them!” He smiled as they both walked out of the dojo.

“Second hour is about to start so I have to get to class,” Jazlynn said.

Elliot looked up at the sky and responded with a sigh, “As do I.” They both walked off heading to different parts of the school. Elliot was the owner of the whole premises. About Ten years ago, he inherited all his family and clan’s money. He chose to take his money and open a school like orphanage for children around the city. They school was to teach the less fortunate about their abilities and how to use them properly. A lot of the schools rejected children from poorer families which resulted in a number of kids growing up to be criminals later on using their abilities illegally. When the school started it was just a small number of kids, he brought in with him after he bought the place. Over the years, kids have come from all over to attend his school. The school was home to a good number of the students on campus whose families lived far away, while most students lived in various places around town. Some of the students actually lived there as it was their only home.

Elliot walked up a stairwell to the fifth floor and threw a cigarette he was smoking out the window next to him. He was on one of the high school floors and he approached a room towards the end of the hallway. As he drew close to a classroom two girls ran out of it and ran circles around him. “Elliot!” One of them shouted out. “I heard Dimitri and Lux found you sleeping in the trash!”

The other girl shouted out, “Elliot! Did you see Jazlynn’s fight this morning?! She did so good!” the girl started throwing her fists around pretending she was Jazlynn.

Elliot smiled and responded, “Yes I did, she did excellent. She did everything I taught her!” Without hitting the two girls, Elliot swiftly did a low leg swipe into a standing uppercut reenacting Jazlynn’s movement. The two girl’s names were Yuki and Tsuki. They were twins and they were both wearing beret caps and knee length summer dresses. They pretty much mirrored each other in their mannerisms and speech. They were both hyperactive and hard to follow most the time, but Elliot always enjoyed their company.

As they were both talking up a storm since Elliot’s disappearance last night, Elliot interrupted them, “Alright now, the bell is about to ring lets all mosey about into the classroom.” He put a hand on each girls’ shoulder and guided them into the classroom as they kept talking ferociously about their morning. Everyone took their seats as the bell rang. The classroom was quiet while Elliot was writing on the chalk board. He turned around and said to everyone, “Good morning everyone! Today’s lesson is going to continue on from yesterdays lesson of Newton’s third law in thermodynamics.”
