how come suigetsu is so well-versed in sasukarin? [ramblings]
And I’m leaving Kishi’s writer intent aside for a second here to solely focus on Suigetsu as a character. Because, I mean, Orochimaru being well-aware of Karin’s feelings for Sasuke was no surprise because what doesn’t Oro know? Plus, she worked for him; if there are two people who often got to watch Karin interacting with Sasuke, those two would logically be Oro and Kabuto. So their comments were expected and not any kind of surprise:

But then there is Suigetsu.
I’ve always thought that it made more sense if Suigetsu’s unfinished sentence in 352 was alluding to Karin having been in love with Sasuke for a while now rather than to Sasuke and Karin’s first encounter. But given that the majority of the Japanese readers I’ve spoken to seem to be in agreement about the latter, and given this neat little detail, I’m starting to believe they’re probably right.
Which brings me to the question I still can’t wrap my head around even after all these years: how in the world could Suigetsu know about that? We’re seriously missing something here. Or rather, Kishi must be saving something quite interesting for later.
I’ve rambled about this so many times in the FC that I’m already starting to sound like a broken record, but this intrigues me so, so much that I just had to vent somewhere. Please bear with me guys or this is going to turn out to be a post of the all-instances-of-Suigetsu-bringing-up-and-taking-jabs-at-SasuKarin kind, I can feel it.
But it may come in handy for references and the likes, right?
Ok so, Kishi made a distinction pretty early on in the game. Because right from the get-go, while Sasuke fell for Karin’s lousy excuses:

which is forever amusing
One could easily sense that Suigetsu didn't buy any of it for a second:
Then comes 352 which confirms that why, yes, Suigetsu is already well-aware of the fact that Karin has feelings for Sasuke and that’s the reason why she’s tagging along in the first place.

And that brings me right back to the start.
Is his awareness of Karin’s feelings a consequence of knowing that? Or is it the other way around, and he found out about it only after already having an inkling about Karin’s feelings for Sasuke? It might seem like a silly thing to wonder about, but thing is that if it’s the latter, then that would imply that Suigetsu must have either gotten to see or hear Karin->Sasuke in some way, shape, or form.
Along the same vein, there’s also this:

And if there was any doubt about what Suigetsu was implying in the first instance, then there’s honestly no mistaking the second. One can either think that Suigetsu “must have misunderstood" (as some Japanese fans do) or that he is onto something (hi that’s me) - both interpretations are equally valid. But the fact remains that Suigetsu believes what he just said. As per usual, Suigetsu is speaking from his own impressions; so what gave him the impression that Sasuke and Karin have been about to “hook up"?
Is that also about what he knows? Is it just something he has come to think through the years of knowing them? Or did he see something that made him think that way?
I mean, implying that Karin’s affections might be returned is not the kind of thing Suigetsu would do without a good reason, IMO. Even less so considering that he claims that “standing in their way” is one of his hobbies.
And that takes me to another thing I’ve always found pretty interesting. Suigetsu revealing that he actually makes a point of standing in their way does put a lot of things into perspective, yeah, especially this:
(In the second panel, Suigetsu actually goes all “Sorry to say, but…” rather than ‘For the record’, haha)
But also these; because given that Suigetsu is well aware that “Karin just wants to seduce Sasuke”, he knows the reason why she tries to shake him [Suigetsu] loose is not only because she can’t stand him. So by succeeding, she is essentially one step ahead of him in these two instances:
But it also seems to be a little… odd, if you ask me. In the sense that it’s one thing to enjoy how flustered it makes Karin, but considering that Suigetsu is apparently under the impression that Sasuke might give in to her advances (let’s not get into whether he’s wrong or not, that’s beside the point); wouldn’t Karin finally owning up to her feelings and acknowledging them pretty much backfire on Suigetsu’s cockblocking hobby?
Idk, if I were him, and if I really wanted to keep Sasuke and Karin apart, I’d do my most damn so that Karin would remain in outward denial about her feelings for Sasuke.

All in all, Suigetsu takes a really, really peculiar amount of interest in SasuKarin.
