WHY KARIN’S POWERS DIDN’T AWAKEN BEFORE
I find it ironic that people still insist that Karin’s abilities must be an asspull if IT’S BEEN CLEAR THAT SHE HAD THE POTENTIAL TO GAIN THEM FOR A LONG TIME AND KISHI SIMPLY TOOK ADVANTAGE OF THAT and there are obvious reasons she didn’t awaken her ability before.
Remember how Naruto didn’t awaken his kyuubi chakra until Sasuke was in danger of dying in the Mist Arc? Yet Team 7 was in danger many times before that - specifically when the Demon Brothers came close to killing Sasuke and Sakura but Kakashi showed up to save the day, and then on various occasions before the final showdown with Haku. Was Naruto’s power, therefore, an asspull? No, it just showed up at the appropriate time in the plot - when Sasuke’s life was in immediate and obvious danger and there was nothing else Naruto could do to protect him. Such is the case with Karin as well, but because she is female and because she is one half of a very unpopular ship involving one of the most popular characters in the series, her abilities are an “asspull”…even if her Uzumaki heritage was clearly planned since the moment she showed up.
ppl who are wondering why Karin’s emotions weren’t desperate enough to awaken her power in the past need only look at the two other occasions during which she was worried about Sasuke because his chakra had disappeared
Karin is a character who suppresses her emotions in combat, which is why up to this point in the manga, she’s always been able to keep a clear head in battle:

here she distracted Danzo for a moment bc there was nothing else she could do, but in the process, was able to figure out his techniques and how Sasuke could best fight him as a result:
here she’s worried about Sasuke but doesn’t say a thing about it out loud - she just urges him to keep on fighting after Juugo heals him:
in all these cases, there was something she could do for Sasuke - some way she could aid him and ensure his survival. so her powers didn’t awaken.
when the Tsuchikage attacked Sasuke and seemingly killed him, Karin almost cried
but she almost immediately sensed his chakra again, and then smiled one of her only genuine smiles in the manga.
so once again, her powers remained dormant. the same thing happened when Sasuke’s chakra disappeared during his fight against Deidara:
but she soon finds out he’s alright.
in the most recent chapters, Karin senses Sasuke dying and this time, there seems to be nothing she can do about it. so it makes sense that in her desperation, with no apparent recourse, her powers would awaken.
and yes, we know for sure that Karin awakened those abilities for the first time specifically for Sasuke’s sake, as THIS IS A RELIABLE TRANSLATION OF WHAT OROCHIMARU SAID: ”The same power as Uzumaki Kushina’s…..Finally, at this late date…”
