//TOP 10 SASUKARIN SCENES
// An anon asked for these, so I thought I’d make them rebloggable.
1. Obviously the Forest of Death flashback. He smiled at her in a way that I’ve only ever seen him smile at Naruto, and for no apparent reason??? The whole thing was very strange, given that chronologically, the flashback was set when Sasuke was going to get water while Sakura and Naruto were with Kabuto. (This is why he has a water bottle on his hip - lol, why did Kishi even bother; mangaka and their obsession with detail, I LOVE IT.) He should have been really stressed out, but instead, he goes out of his way to save some unknown girl (rather uncharacteristic of him) and then SMILES at her!!! W T F my fucking shipper kokoro I CANNOT. That Kishi bothered to give Karin this kind of intricate, meaningful flashback made me believe she was going to die, and when she didn’t? Ironically, it got my hopes up.
2. Sasuke awakening Enton Kagetsuchi. JFC. I can’t believe it when people say they see nothing shippy about this scene. Sasuke awakened Amaterasu to save Taka not because they were a replacement for Team 7, but because he valued them as comrades who he would give his life for, just as he had valued Team 7 in the past. He was looking out for them even before he awakened Amaterasu, which is evident in the bottom right panel of this page. We rarely see Sasuke looking that worried. He told Taka he was assembling them to help him, nothing more. He didn’t consider them nakama. And yet, during this fight, he does not want them harmed. He puts his own life on the line for them, just as they do for him. And this is very uncharacteristic of Shippuden Sasuke, who wants to focus on revenge at almost any cost.
And then, when Sasuke saw Karin was in danger, he awakened Enton Kagetsuchi (the ability to control the black flames and put them out which Itachi did not have and which Sasuke didn’t even know existed until he unlocked it to save Karin).
These two pages really says it all:
Here, even the most soft-hearted member of Taka, Juugo, tries to tear Sasuke away from Karin because there is no hope for her, but he won’t leave her. Juugo even tugs on his sleeve in the top right panel, and in the top left panel, Sasuke pushes/tugs away from him (note the little Japanese sound effect). In the last panel on the left on the second row, he cries her name in bolded kanji, and it’s not in a speech bubble. It’s in his own mind. And this desperation is reflected in his expression in the panel on the bottom right; a desperation I have rarely seen in his face before. All the unnecessary motion lines that Kishi has added (in this panel as well as the others) convey the gravity of the scenario and how extreme Sasuke’s desperation actually is.
In the panel on the top left of the page below, Juugo is still tugging on Sasuke’s cloak, and in the middle panel on the second row, you can see some motion lines indicating that Sasuke jerked away from him. It just serves to heighten the drama in this scene.
3. When Sasuke tells Karin she saved him. He says this to her, specifically, and says nothing of the sort to Suigetsu and Juugo. The way Kishi singles out his relationship with her (even drawing the two of them close to each other in typical scenes - like when Taka is running and jumping through one of those huge-ass Naruto forests) tugs at my heartstrings. He doesn’t just say thank you, he acknowledges what she’s done for him. And she just replies with a simple “Aa” which is like saying “yeah,” in Japanese. It’s so touching. They sit in a heap afterwards, panting, recovering from their wounds.
3. The intimacy of these two is showcased pretty well by the fact that we have only seen Sasuke bite Karin. And the scenes in which he bites her (there are two) are vERY sexual. More sexual than one would ever see in shounen usually, unless some kind of joke is being made. I can’t really see why Kishi would choose this particular healing method other than to show how close they are. I ANALYZE THESE SCENES IN-DEPTH HERE.
4. He “needs her.” This isn’t something we see him say to anyone else. But he still lets her refuse, should she want to, saying he’ll find someone else if she won’t go. And we know this wasn’t calculated to make her jealous, because it’s pretty obvious that he’s oblivious to her romantic overtures. Which is all the more evident in the next moment on the list.
5. When Karin changes from “tsun” to “dere” after locking the door behind her, Sasuke has a clueless question mark over his head on one page. And on the next, he lets her get reaaaaaally close to him. Perhaps he’s used to being near her because of biting her in the past? We don’t really know at this point. But this is all very strange, given his reaction to girls who have done as such in the past. He frequently pushed away people who glomped him in part 1. In fact, it was Karin who pulled away from him when she saw that Suigetsu was breaking down the door on the next page.
6. In the same vein, he allows her to continue dragging him along even when he says “Let go…I can walk by myself.” Why is he letting this girl all up in his business, seriously? He never lets anyone get that physically proximate to him. I’m not saying that it means anything, just that it’s notable, and very, very adorable. He doesn’t even bother going back to get Suigetsu, who Karin sent off in the wrong direction.
7. Sasuke always sides with Karin when she fights with Suigetsu. Suigetsu usually starts their fights, but even when she is the one to start them, he still backs her up.
In this case, Karin started the fight:

And in this case, it was Suigetsu:

8. This isn’t a particularly romantic moment, and I imagine Sasuke would do this for any comrade who isn’t strong offensively. But it is the focus on Sasuke’s hand and Karin’s expression that get me. She seems taken aback by his protectiveness. I’m not sure what that means, but there’s something romantic about it, idk. It’s just well drawn, such that there’s a certain tension there for some reason.
9. This is mostly speculation, but it may hint at something more.
First of all, this translation is inaccurate.
HERE IS A MORE ACCURATE TRANSLATION.
“I really do know…in the past with Sasuke you…" and then Karin cuts him off.
We still have no idea what this means.
KISHIMOTO WAS ASKED ABOUT THIS IN AN INTERVIEW, AND HE SAID THAT WE WOULD "HAVE TO WAIT” TO FIND OUT WHAT SUIGETSU WAS TALKING ABOUT. We know it couldn’t have been the Forest of Death encounter between Sasuke and Karin, because Suigetsu didn’t even know Karin then.
…and I can’t think of a tenth. If you followers can think of one, let me know, and I’ll add it here!
