It all started the day of my 18th birthday, the news channels were going crazy yelling at everyone to get out of the cities and into a place where we could be safe. I was in an apartment in the city of New York when this happened, everyone was running for their lives. Trucks from the military were gathering people to take to a safe place. I couldn't even see the end of people getting eaten alive, it could;t be real.
" Tyler hurry up " Grant yelled as he grabbed all his stuff in a bag holding his gun in his hands, sweat running down his forehead.
" I'm watching everyone, can't we wait until they leave " I mutter, my knife was in my jeans, my guns were in my pants. I also had a rifle in my left hand.
" But then they will come eat us, lets just go man " he whined and put his shoes on
" Fine, lets kill these bitches " I yell and grab my bags as well before running out of the apartment building.
I saw people die in front of me, people running to the military trucks. Others were killing off the zombies that came running at everyone. We nodded and ran for it not wasting a bullet of ours until we needed to. I grabbed my knife out and stabbed zombies as if I felt nothing for them. But I did, they were humans like us. They got a virus that turned them like that. Grant followed up behind me, we watched as the trucks started up and moved out of here, crushing zombies as they rolled out of the city. Soon helicopters came down and picked a couple more survivors up, we didn't get on. We went straight for the super market, Grant had a bag for our food and bullets as well.
Running inside we closed the front door, pushing isles onto the door so they couldn't get in. We killed the zombies that were in the store before we grabbed drinks, food and lots of water. Plus I found extra bullets, that was a nice bonus. I got to the front and met up with him, we counted a lot of food. And even though we didn't need it we took the money in the registers like we needed it. But like I said were in a time and place where we will never need it until everything is fixed. " we got a lot of stuff man " Grant smiled showing me some beer he found
" Yeah I know, look what I found " I showed him the extra 100 bullets I found lying around
" sweet, thats a lot. We have like 1,000 now, since we saved up for this. " he chuckled and patted my shoudler
I smiled back and nodded my head, we had to get out of here before we got surrounded my zombies. We removed the isles from the door and ran for it once some zombies left. In the distance we heard gun shots, we didn't want to get caught up in that so we just ran past it. I watched as the man who was shooting went down after a while, zombies ripped his limbs off and didn't even notice us. I looked back to the front to see a military truck that didn't leave with the others.
" hey Grant, the truck, now! " I ordered and we ran for our lives to it
Jumping into the drivers seat I turned the engine on and drove over cars and zombies, not worrying about the dents they made to it. Grant sighed and turned the radio on to see if there was any connection, it was only the radio to the camp in the mountains. Thats where we were headed, like everyone else, but we wanted to stay a while to see if there were any survivors. Turning the radio off I heard a girl screaming, she was running towards us. A couple of zombies were running after her, I groan and jump out. I take my gun and shoot them down one by one. The girl ran into my arms, she was just a head shorter then me, then I heard Grant yell like an idiot. I nodded my head and picked her up in my arms getting back into the truck. She sat in the middle of us, I started it up once more as I felt her lay on my shoulder.
" T-Thank you " she whispered and fell asleep cuddling against my right arm
" Did she say something " Grant asked
" she said thank you idiot, I think I was supposed to do that " I smirk as I drive towards the freeway.
" I'm sorry, I did't hear her " he grumbled crossing his arms before he fell asleep as well.
I drove until I could't anymore, I stopped on a ramp onto the freeway. Making sure nothing heard me for miles as I stopped and parked behind some trees. I glanced down to the girl, I did't even know her name. I shook her shoulders a bit until she sat up rubbing her eyes open.
" where are we " she yawned and stretched her arms out before realizing I wasn't her parents
" haha sorry, you kind of ran into my arms " I rubbed the back of my neck and nervously smiled down at her
" oh, thats okay. I'm Victoria but the way, and I hear you were Tyler right " She questioned
" yeah, that lazy ass is Grant. Were both 18 so you know, how old are you?" I asked
" I-I'm just 15 " she muttered
" don't worry we won't do anything to you if thats what your thinking " I chuckle as I reach for my bag of food
I took out some water and some chips for us to have. She smiled and took some as well, drinking the water like it would be her last. I gulped some down and woke up Grant, he thanked me and ate as well. Introducing himself to her, she nodded her head and laughed at us as we argued for a while. She would laugh overtime we argued, I guess we made her smile. After we finished eating I turned the truck back on, some of the trucks had just got onto the freeway, I rammed it and got in front of them all. I heard horns in angry and just laughed, we followed the road to a gate. Men were guarding it like we though, they came down and searched our car, then at us. One of them just looked us, then back at the captain.
" I'm sorry men, but your little girl isn't aloud in here " he explained
" why she's just a little girl " I yelled not understanding what this was for
Soon they took force and held her in their arms, one was pointing a gun at her. Her smiled faded into a dark grin that made me shiver multiple times over, the trucks behind us just watched in horror. Closing my eyes I heard a gun-shot and a body drop to the ground. Once they let go of me I ran to her side, she was smiling up at me. Her eyes were flickering with life.
" Sorry I never told you about me " she whispered " I knew this was going to happen, so live for me okay " she added putting a necklace around my neck
" its okay, I'll stay here until you die okay " I cried and gritted my teeth at the men
" Thank you Tyler " she whispered
