Sloss Furnace
Starting off anybody who has been through downtown Birmingham has seen it. This is probably one of the most haunted places in Alabama. Sloss furnaces have been in operation for more than 100 years. In 1906, a notoriously tyrannical foreman, James "slag” Wormwood fell into a pit of molten iron ore. Wow, that sounds fun! I mean burning to death in molten iron hell to the yeahzzzz. Stories have been questioned whether he accidentally slipped or if a disgruntled worker pushed him in. Honestly, I believe he was pushed by someone because you know I would push someone that was a dick to me into a vat of iron. Through the years, there have been stories of the presence of the worksite. In 1947, three supervisors were knocked unconscious by an angry man with horrific burns who scolded them to get back to work. In 1971, a night watchman was “Beaten” by an unknown entity, which left burns on his body where the being struck him. Was it the foreman who decided it was time for revenge and decided to beat the hell out of a guard? I believe that it was someone who pushed him in just because of the accounts of the beating and scoldings of getting back to work. Yeah, We’ll just go on now.
