“A surprise?” Rook raised a brow, nuzzling into the touch. The next sound that shocked him again was the returned typing on a makeshift keyboard; at least, that was what it sounded like. Knifejaw moved her hand away, but kept it in grabbing reach and also within Rook’s view through the single eye.
His whole socket ached, and that metallic feeling was still there. As cold as ice, unfamiliar as the world outside. He let out an exhale, but then something happened.
Some code appeared in front of him. What exactly did the man do to him when he was hit? How long was he out?
Why was his eye mechanical?
Wait, what?
It spiralled aimlessly in front of him, strings of code being generated at noughts. He was too shocked to speak, as if Mother Nature had sown his mouth shut.
He hyperventilated. It was his only response as he remained laying there. “Rook, breathe before you give yourself a panic attack!”
His eye returned to full vision, but it was unlike the previous sight he had before; it had been enhanced and had been mechanized. No longer was Rook held back by his primitive human self, but a mechanical viewing field that could even the smallest of objects and put it on the HUD. Wasn’t that neural?
Who knows what other augments had been implanted? Rook’s eyes widened at that thought and the newfound sight he had. “Callisto, Knifejaw… what did you do?”
It wasn’t out of anger or frustration, but pure curiosity.
Knifejaw exhaled as the code dissipated. At least through all of this, the experiment had worked; the trio could still enhance their cybernetics, even so far from the safety of another planet. Who knows what is left of the Sol Defence Corps? They’d find out eventually. “We gave you a cybernetic eye; our friend damaged it so severely we had to replace it. It could not function and could become infected if we had left it any longer, so we did what we could and used a biomechanical augment we had found from one of the little red’s soldiers.”240Please respect copyright.PENANAG8a04fptJA
