"Dude."
A vague voice vibrated into my occupied mind.
"Dude!"
I jolted.
"Huh?" I answered faintly.
"What's wrong with you today?" Harlan asked, frowning.
I blinked slowly.
"Nothing is wrong." I replied quietly.
I stared back at my perfectly untouched lunch. I grabbed a sandwich and tried to reach it to my mouth, but realised I didn't really have the appetite for it. So I put it down.
"No, something is clearly wrong." Harlan, being the good friend he was, insisted on his theory.
Well, it might not have been a theory.
Then suddenly, his voice went soft.
"'Violet' didn't come to see you, did she?"
I didn't answer and remained my gaze on my sandwich.
Sarah, who had been sitting with us since the party, had a gentle expression on her face.
"Hey," She called me. "I remember you said you need help with your Chemistry homework, right?"
I nodded without energy.
"I can teach you after school."
"Thanks." I mumbled.
"Come to the library."
I nodded.
☾
I walked along the rows of books and made my way across one the rows. I admired the columns of books.
I reached the self-study tables.
No one was there. Not even a figure in other tables. I supposed most people had gone home.
So I looked for Sarah's stuff to identify where she had been sitting. It was a pretty easy mission, given that only one table was filled with stuff.
I found her stuff and they were accompanied with a couple more schoolbags.
I frowned slightly.
I thought we were going to study ourselves.
Weirdness crept into my body.
Still, I made my way towards the table. I took a seat next to the apparently-occupied seats.
Bored and suddenly becoming the time richer, I pushed the window next to me slightly open to feel the wind. I watched the view outside quietly.
It didn't take me more than three seconds before my mind snapped back to yesterday's memory. It had been in my mind for the entire night and day.
Why did she not show up?
The one question that had been circling my mind.
A breeze of wind blew into the library, brushing against my face, as well as the stuff on the table.
The pages of the books on the table flipped open. My gaze grazed the books.
Until, a violet flower came into my sight.
I froze.
I didn't believe it at first.
But...it just sat there in between a calendar book, still and calm.
My hands slowly reached for the violet flower.
I picked it up with delicacy.
I stared at it, unbelievably.
Another breeze of wind blew in and the pages of the calender book revealed itself even more. Dozens of purple notes were pasted at the surface. Some of them were lesson notes, some were story ideas, some were poems, some were...notes about me.
"Nick?"
I looked up.
My sight was met with Mika.
Her eyes widened at me.
Then, her gaze travelled down to the calender book in my hands.
Her breath shook.
Our gazes met again.
I took the courage to ask her the question I had been wanting to ask her for 2 years.
"Are you 'V'?"
Her eyes fixed on me. Her lips shivered.
A few moments later, she looked away.
She nodded softly.
Slowly, a smile crept across my lips.
I walked towards her. She widened her eyes again at my movement.
I stopped until we were inches away. I realised our heights had a big difference.
She looked up at me. Her face flushed. Her dark brown eyes revealed the deep depth in it.
My heart pounding loudly against my chest as I said the words.
"Nice to finally meet you, 'Violet'."
I smiled genuinely.
Her gaze softened.
Eventually, a delicate smile broke out at her face.
"Nice to finally meet you too, Nick."
