PILOT
"Miss. Avans?" The head nurse made an appearance with papers in hand.
I rise from my seat with a bright smile. "Yes?"
"Everything is ready for you. The baby boy is well and healthy, you are welcome to read through the adoption papers and sign. If any problems arise, please do approach any of the nurses, they may assist." A sweet rosy smile has risen on her lips.
Before I could proceed with the papers handed to me, the nurse added; "Between the two of us, the baby had quite the strange birth. It was never properly recorded to the papers because the doctors feared that the authorities may start asking questions."
Putting the papers aside, "What do you mean by a strange birth?"
"I am mentioning this for your own benefit; The father was never seen or found, the mother died immediately after birth while the birth of the baby never had any complications. The mother was very healthy and didn't sustain any traumas yet she died right after. The strangest thing was that the baby's eyes were in an irregular color, and as he was born a few small fires broke inside our hospital and a bolt of lightning struck right outside the window." I gasped as I covered my mouth but the nurse didn't seem phased while delivering the news.
"Is this the reason that the child was never adopted?" The nurse nodded sadly.
"Even though these events were never properly recorded, we are still obligated to address the issue in case any other problems arise in the future."
"I understand. Has anything else weird happened since?" She shook her head.
"The baby boy is very quiet, keeps to himself, and is very wise. He doesn't get along with the rest of the children but the boy is very sweet."
"Ok, thank you for letting me know." I smiled then the nurse went to her business around the hospital.
