The cold wind howled as I stood in front of the school building. Part of me was screaming it was a bad idea while another part of me encouraged me to do it.
'I will never find out the truth by staying at home and doing nothing.' I take a deep breath and walk in.
'This is bad considering that the police just interviewed you today.' My little voice said as I roamed the school halls.
'I just want to see Caroline and learn the truth.' I reply.
Then an ear-piercing scream was heard followed by an evil cackle. Bringing out the knife and torch from my bag, I look around but see nothing.
'Maybe this is a bad idea.' I say putting the knife back and heading to the front door but to my shock, it was locked.
'Cheesecakes!' Letting go of the handle, I look around. 'Looks like I have to keep going.'
I send a text message to Caroline asking where she was and she replied she was in the main building by the left.
'That is where the upperclassmen study.' I say tucking my phone in my bag but it brightened up with a message from an unknown number.
'Darling where are you?' it read. 'I did not see you at the convenience store.'
'Like I am going to tell you creep.' I delete it and go to the main building but something was wrong. 'Something is moving in the classrooms and it looks like it is following me.'
I stop and look at one of the classroom windows. 'All I can see is my reflection and an empty classroom.' I shake my head at my stupidity. 'I am just getting worked up for...'
Then a dismantled face appears out of nowhere screaming at me. Shocked, I jump back in horror and land on the floor as it crawled out of the window. Acting on instinct, I stand up to run but it grabs my feet and tries to pull me into the class through the window. I scream but an unknown hand grabs it by the head and drags it into the classroom.
My heart was pounding so hard. 'This school does have bad Feng Shui.'
I scramble to my feet and run towards a building where the upperclassmen classes are and were about to open the door leading when a voice screamed, "Don't go there!"
I stop in my tracks and dared to look back. A silhouette figure of a boy was staring at me with a knife in his hand. It lunged at me but I dodge the attack and run to the stairs but he caught my leg. I hold on to the railing to prevent myself from falling and look back at its red eyes. Suddenly the same hand appeared, grabbed it, and disappeared.
'What on earth was that?' I scramble to my feet and run up the stairs. 'This time I am not going to look back.'
I finally make it to the school's roof which served as my only link to the second main building and sees a female student sitting on a bench eating what looked like a bento. Not willing to take any chances, I walk past her and my breath hitched. Suddenly she appeared in front of me with blood drooling from her mouth.
"Everyone used to ignore me." Slowly, she raised her hand and my feet left the ground while I gasped for air.
"I...can't...breathe!" I croak while holding my neck. Then I dropped to the ground with a thud and she vanished. The door in front of me opened and there stood Alice.
"Oh there you are!" she said with a huff. "I was looking all over for you."
I stand up still catching my breath.
"Why are you acting like a fish out of water?" she growled putting her hands on her hips. "Well, don't just stand there looking like a moron! Let's go and meet her!"
Then she turned and walked away not bothering to ask me what happened.
'This is going to be a long night.' I thought following her.
"It took you a long time to get here," she grumbled. "And I am an impatient girl. I hate waiting!"
I cough and swallow my saliva. "I don't know you at all."
She stopped and glared at me. "Now you know Emma and from now on call me Upperclassman."
I grunt and stare at her. 'She looks so poised yet with a tone of arrogance written all over her.' I look to my right and see the shadow following me.
"Do you think this school is haunted?"
She scoffed. "Haunted my ten toes. It is only haunted if you believe in that crap."
"I see," we walk on in silence. 'Looks like she is oblivious to the hauntings in the school.'
"Right here we are." She announced once as we stand in front of the door. Suddenly, she swung her bat to my face. "Listen up, no one knows about this room and I intend to keep it that way. Tell anyone and I will break your skull understand?"
I nod.
"Answer me!"
I glare back at her. "Yes. Upperclassman."
"Good." she opened the door exposing a well furnished with a TV, a computer, an armchair, and a rug. The two girls sitting on the rug watching TV turned to look at me when I walked in.
"Hello!" the first girl with pink hair and white hue greeted while munching chips, "I am Jane. I hope we can all be friends."
I looked at the girl who was wearing a white shirt with pink dungarees and green eyes. 'She looks young and innocent.' I let her take my hand and feel my fingers but it did not last long because Alice pulled me away from her.
"Let's go." She said leading me to another room. There Caroline was sitting on a mat bringing out what looked like cards except they were not playing cards.
"Is Sebastian back?" she asked without looking at me.
Alice gritted her teeth. "No, he isn't, and don't tell me to look for him because you know I won't do it."
She gave me a quick shove and slammed the door leaving me alone with Caroline who stood up and hugged me.
"I knew you would come." She said looking at me with hope. "My horoscope told me so."
I pat her back in a friendly way and looked around the room. Pictures of different kinds of horoscopes and stars were hung around the room but a pentagram was drawn on the floor.
'Brianna did not tell me she was into the occult practices.' I thought at her face. 'But she looks so happy. Is this how she looks like when nothing bad is happening?'
"What took you so long to decide?" she asked leading me to the table.
I search for an answer but found none.
She nods, takes out a set of cards, and looks at it. "Your mind is troubled is there something bothering you?"
I say nothing for a moment.
"You are scared of the supernatural." She brings out a card and stares at me in an eerie manner. It had a picture of a ghost in it. "It has made you stuck in a wave of confusion," she said bringing out another card.
I had nothing to say because this was my first experience. 'So she does know about the supernatural goings in the school.' I watch her push the cards aside and bring out what looked like a board game but with letters written on it and began to fiddle with something on it.
"This is strange." She said. "It says you can't be affected by evil spirits but you are cursed in some way."
"Well, I do feel cursed so it is no surprise," I reply.
"You are cursed by a demon." She continued looking at the board. "But it is not the same demon possessing the students of the school but a different one but why?"
Well, I had no answer to that question.
"But the demon of the school can't possess you because of how special you are." She continued. "But what is it that makes you special?"
I look away. "Everyone is special in their way."
"Is it because of something you did in the past?" she asks. "Or something you are doing in the present?"
My eyes widened when she said that. 'Does she know? Of course not and that is a secrete I intend to keep.'
So putting up a poker face, I shrug, "I do not know maybe you can tell me."
She looked at the cards and sighed. "It doesn't say anything."
'Phew,'
"But I know why you are here." She says putting the card away. "You are curious about the happenings in the school I'm I right?"
I nod. "Is it true this school has bad Feng Shui?"
She shakes her head.
"Then why are they ghosts in this school?"
"No none know why." She replied putting the cards away. "But they are not the ones forcing students to kill each other."
"Then who is forcing them?" I ask.
She hums for a while. "All your answers are written in a book."
Her statement raised an eyebrow. "A book?"
"Hidden in a locker located in the abandoned hallway in this very school." She explained. "It is in the second main building and the locker has a star sign on it. If you read it, you will finally understand the reason behind the supernatural goings in the school."
'Abandoned hallway? Why haven't I heard of such a place before?' I look back at her. 'Why do I have a bad feeling about this?'
"If I get the book, it will show me the answers I seek?"
She nods. "But you should be careful. Some say a demon lurks in that hallway after the 'incident'."
"What incident?"
She shrugs and stands up. "So do you want tea?"
We drink tea in silence and seeing the time belonged to the early morning, I stand up. "I am sorry but I have to go."
She nods and leads me out of the room. The two little girls were asleep on the floor while Alice was sleeping on an armchair.
Caroline gave her a shove. "Wake up. You have to lead Emma out of the school."
"No, it is not necessary," I reply but she ignores me and shoves Alice awake repeating her request. Alice wakes up with a groan and a few minutes later, she is leading me out of the school.
"So what did that girl say to you?" Alice asks.
I shrug. "Why should I tell you?"
She swung her baseball bat in my direction missing me by inches. Falling to the floor, she slammed her bat next to my face and leaned forward.
"I head everything Big tits. Something about you being special right?" she laughed. "The only thing special about you is the fact that you have big jugs."
I glare at her because that joke was getting old. As she towered over me in victory my phone buzzed repeatedly.
"Aren't you going to pick that?" she asked.
Part of me wanted to take out the knife and disembowel her but I take out my phone and looked at it. I had a missed call and a message.
My face twisted in annoyance and I look away. Then my phone beeped with a message.
'I have been searching all night! Where are you?'
Alice read the message and grinned. "Looks like you do have a stalker. Well, that is your problem, and don't you dare make it mine understood?"
She swung her bat at me but I raise my hand in defense. Seeing my pathetic state, she laughed and left me alone.
"Oh, and school starts next week. Don't be late." She said again as she walked in front of me.
'I have to stay away from her.' I stand up. 'If one of us wants to live.'
She takes me out of school and I head home with no problems and go to bed. How long did I sleep? I do not know. What I do know I had nightmares of ghosts haunting me around the school and I could recognize one being Mrs. Brittany's ghost. I was grabbed and had my heart ripped out of my chest when someone knocked on the door.
"EMMA!" my Aunt woke me up from my nightmare. "EMMA!"
I groan instinctively touching my heart, then my head then my lips. 'What the...'
"EMMA GET DOWN HERE!" she screamed and I meet her in the living room. "Go and buy beer for us."
I rub my eyes. "Can't you do it yourself?"
"No. I am going out. Oh and make sure dinner is ready by the time I get back." she swung her pink fur shawl over her shoulders and stormed off. Looking at the coffee table sited in the middle of the living room, I picked up the money and storm out of the apartment.
'Ugh, my head hurts.' I rub my temple as walk. 'That dream felt so real. Is it because of...'
"Hi." I turn around and see Jake standing behind me with a smile on his face. "Fancy seeing you here. How have you been?"
I take a step back. "I...I am fine thank you."
"Where are you going?"
"I am sorry but it is none of your business," I reply stomping off to the convenience store. There I buy the usual items, ramen, processed meat, and beer.
"Can I follow you?" and before I could respond, he tagged along.
Normally, I prefer shopping alone or with someone who's good at saving money and not buying stuff we do not need but shopping with someone like Jake was a nightmare. He was just buying stuff I didn't need at all!
"Emma, let's buy this!" he said holding a huge saucepan.
"I already have that at home."
"Aww but it can still be useful in case one gets missing." he dumped it into my cart. "Oh let's buy this one."
"I already have that!"
"Ah, ah, ah. It is still considered a necessity." into the cart it went. "Oh let's buy this one."
I stared at the weird equipment. "I do not know what that is."
"Sure you do. It is a spiraliser. It is used to cut vegetables into ribbons."
'Into ribbons?' I snap out of it. "I don't..."
Too late. It was inside my cart.
"Let's buy this pasta maker. It looks old but durable."
Okay, now he was getting on my nerves and the sound of me gritting my teeth showed it. "We need flour and eggs to make the pasta you know."
He had a stunned look on his face. "Oh." then he smiled. "Then let's buy some. I know a place where we can get it cheap."
Within a few hours, I was standing in front of my apartment door with so many bags and boxes my Aunt's jaw dropped to the floor.
"I SEND YOU TO GO BUY DINNER NOT TO GO SHOPPING AT EVERY STORE IN TOWN!" she screeched. "WHERE ARE WE GOING TO KEEP THIS STUFF?"
All I could do was bow my head in silent anger. 'At least he paid for it.'256Please respect copyright.PENANAWjA4JEIqDj
