Olivia
"You drink white wine, right?" Helena yells from her kitchen and I yell yes back sitting down at her white couch. Her apartment is beautiful, it's the first time I've been here, and how she affords this place is a mystery to me. Its not big, but a lot bigger than mine, its new, and modern, and the interior is like taken out from a luxury interior magazine. Not one thing is out of place. Helena comes back to the living room with white wine in one hand and a drink in the other, probably her go to gin and tonic. She hands me the wine before sitting down.
"Finally, we found time to do this, you have been so busy lately" Helena says expressing concern for me, it makes me smile. Helena is that woman that other woman envies for how she looks, but when you get to know her, she is even more perfect. A lot of concern for her friends, a great listener, gives good advice and she will always pick up the phone when you call.
"I know, this week has really been hard" I sigh, Helena's concerned eyes still on me. Waiting for me to explain.
"One of Daniels clients got sued before we got to sue the guy suing him. And now the clock is ticking for us to find evidence enough to countersue. The firm sent over 12 cases of documents that I had to read through, by myself!" Helena frowns as I continue telling her about the week that had gone by.
"Thank god it's over" she states, and I nod, taking a small sip of my wine.
"So... Has there happened anything ells between you and Mr. Parker?" Helena's face has turned playful and I shake my head no, not ready to tell her about the kitchen incident that happened earlier this week. After that I had kept a low profile, sent everything over to Peter for delivery. Dodging Daniel had actually been good for me. I had been able to do a lot more work and I had even agreed to a date with Nick this weekend. He wanted to take me to some kind of charity gala he had to attend, and I thought it would be a great chance to see if there is some kind of chemistry between us.
"Other than me flipping out on him over this case no" I lie.
"That's good." Helena says and I look at her a bit surprised by her statement, when we had lunch a week ago, she had seemed so supportive about the flirt between us. Not that anything would happen in the future, but I kind of liked knowing I had her on my side. Helena sees my face and corrects herself.
"Don't get me wrong, I will support you no matter what, but he is married, even if the marriage is a sham." She continues, and I nod in agreement, then her face turns a little more serious.
"Why don't you go on a date with Sam?" she asks and my mouth drop a little in surprise.
"Sam?" I laugh, not because the idea is stupid, I have after all considered it multiple times myself, I laugh because Helena knows that Sam is not my type, and I have told her my concern about ruining the friendship we are building.
"Why not? I know he is not exactly your type, but your type sucks" I laugh even harder, she is right, my type sucks, but I can't help it.
"I can't, I know how it will end." Helena raises an eyebrow at me, like how can I know that.
"One of two ways. Ether we go on a couple dates, I still don't get does feelings, dump him and the friendship is ruined. Or I can't get myself to dump him and we get married, have kids, I live an unhappy life, unhappily married and have sex with the pool boy on the side." Now its Helena's turn to laugh.
"Ok fine, I get it, no Sam. But seriously, we need to get you out. You can't be hung up on your married boss forever."
"I actually have a date tomorrow" I say, and her eyes shoot up in excitement.
"Really!? With who? How did you meet? Is he hot? Rich? A bad boy?" she asks and her excitement makes me giggle.
"Yes, he is hot, rich and a bad boy, and I met him out to dinner with Daniel" I state, and Helena jumps up from the couch.
"Who is it? Is he famous? Oh my god is it Jake Gyllenhaal!?" She almost screams, like she had figured it out. I shake my head.
"Why would you think its Jake Gyllenhaal?"
"I think he is one of Mr. Parkers clients." She jumps in excitement and I laugh
"It's not Jake Gyllenhaal" I say, and she sits down, she looks a bit disappointed.
"If you tell me, it's some old man, we are no longer friends" She jokes, and I shake my head again.
"Nick Cornwall" I say silently, knowing her response, I move my hands up to my ears covering them just as Helena lets out a big scream.
"Oh my god, Oh my god, oh my god." She sounds like a broken record as she digests the news, I just threw at her.
"Where is he taking you?" The tone of her voice is so hie I wouldn't have recognized it if my eyes were closed.
"A charity gala for underprivileged children" I say, and she looks impressed.
"What are you wearing?"
"I don't know, I have some nice dresses. I'll just pick one of them"
"Honey, this is a gala, not a school dance. You can't just throw something on. The press will be there and a lot of people in high places." I feel myself getting nervous. I haven't thought about that. Maybe a gala is a stupid idea for a first date. Helena looks at me and can clearly see the concern in my eyes. She gets up from the couch, grabs her drink.
"Get your wine and follow me" she says before walking over to the kitchen. I grab my wine confused and follow her. Helena grabs an unopened bottle of wine and walks back out and I follow her like an obedient puppy. When we get to her front door and she opens it, I get even more confused.
"Where are we going? Do I need my coat?" I ask but she shakes her head as we both leave her apartment and walk two doors down. She knocks on it and we stand there for a few seconds before a woman opens. She is standing there in her sweatpants, and grey hoodie, clearly not expecting company. She has a beautiful, thick, afro that hangs down beside her face. She looks at the both of us.
"What do you need now?" she asks tired. But Helena smiles pushing me a little.
"Olivia here is going to a Gala tomorrow with..." she pauses for dramatic effect and I can't help but roll my eyes a little at her, is she going to announce it to her entire building, go door to door or something?
"Nick freaking Cornwall!!!" Helena screams and the woman in front of me gasps, her eyes whitening. She looks at me and then back at Helena again trying to compose herself.
"So?"
"Oh, come on, this is your chance to get your name out there!" Helena states and the woman I still don't know the name of looks like she is considering something. And what did Helena mean with get her name out there?
"Fine, get in here" she says opening the door for us." We step in and Helena hands her the wine bottle. even though it was pretty much the same apartment, it looks completely different. Artsy, with a lot of color, a lot of paintings on the walls and sculptures everywhere.
"Olivia, this is Nicci Wilson, and she is an up-and-coming designer!" Helena states, and I look at both confused.
"Nicci will give you one of her dresses for some exposure if you get a chance" Helena continues
"Really?" I ask looking over at Nicci, she nods.
"But we have to find a dress that fits your curves" she says tilting her head to the side looking me up and down.
The rest of the night goes in to finding the right dress, fitting it to my body, Helena and me drinking while Nicci sows the dress to perfection. We talk about everything and nothing, when the night is over, and I'm in the cab with the dress on my way home I realize it's the first time in weeks I have gone almost an entire evening without thinking about Daniel. I get my phone up to look if there are any messages, none. I look at the time, its almost 2 in the morning. My drunk mind wants to call him, just to hear his husky, manly voice. It's probably even sexier when he is half asleep. I put my phone down in my purse again fast, stopping myself from doing something stupid. I play with my fingers for a minute before grabbing my phone again, finding Daniels number and before I know it, I am calling him. It rings a couple of times before his tiered, even sexier than I could even imagine voice comes from the other end of the line.
"Olivia?" he says, sounding both confused and concerned at the same time.
"emmm, hi" I answer softly, and I hear some disturbance from his side of the line, like he is sitting up in bed. Is he naked?
"What's going on? It's the middle of the night" he says clearing his throat, but still whispering. I can hear him moving, closing a door behind him.
"I know how to do my job" I say as an excuse. And I hear him chuckle a little.
"And that's why you are calling me at this time of night?"
"Yes, you owe me an apology" I tease.
"Really? For what?" he teases back, I can hear the amusement in his voice.
"For what happened in the kitchen" I say biting my lip.
"I think you like it when I tease you Olivia" he says in a low voice, and I swallow hard.
"I don't." is all I can manage to get out. Both he and I know that is the biggest lie I have ever told.
"Oh really? So, you were not thinking of me touching you when you called me?"
"No!" another lie.
"And right now, are you not flustered by my voice?"
"No." I whisper and he whispers back.
"Well Olivia, your voice is making me rock hard." He breathes into the phone and I gasp feeling myself getting hot, and I want to touch myself to his voice. I suddenly remember where I am, I look up at the cab driver. He is in his own bubble and not even paying attention to me, thank God.
"Where are you?" he asks.
"On my way home" I say, my voice shaky.
"Have you been drinking?" he asks and I nod, biting my lip like he can tell I'm nodding.
"Are you biting your lip Olivia?" he almost growls into the phone, making me even hotter. I can feel myself getting wet, and I'm almost panting by the sound of his sexy voice.
"Yes" I whisper.
"It drives me insane when you do that in front of me, I want to bite that lip." He hisses and I take another deep breath, about to answer when I hear a woman on the other end of the line.
"Daniel, what are you doing up?" Daniels's voice turns hard as he answers.
"Just something for work" he says and then he is talking to me again.
"I have to go Olivia; it was nice talking to you. Sleep tight." He says in a soft voice before hanging up the phone, not letting me say anything. We have crossed a line now. The cab stops outside my townhouse, I pay him before leaving, and go into my apartment. This is not going to end well unless I cut all ties from him. So that is what I am going to do, right after the Banner Oil case is done, I will request a case with one of the other partners and keep doing that until these feelings are gone, for good.
