His eyes were closed for a long time.
"Who knew death could be so painless." Yuto thought to himself before more time passed.
"Am I dead now?" Yuto said in a sad but whiny way. That's when Yuto slightly opened his eyes and the monster was gone.
"Wait... What?"
"Hey, you."
Yuto heard behind him before turning around to see Tetsu standing there.
"Who are you talking to?"
"I was... Myself."
"Oh, I didn't know you did that... Anyways, come with me, it's a human.
A human? Yuto thought as his mind went blank on that.
Tetsu then started to walk and Yuto followed. That's when they saw a small building. It looked well built but had paint etched off and the door squeaked and creaked and barely worked, like it was built ages ago but never touched. Still in a decent condition to live inside.
That's when Yuto saw the two girls on the floor. One of them had blonde hair that shines like gold, she looked like she was fighting to hold back tears yet some still slipped from her eyes that were surrounded by soot and smoke.
The other one looked angry, yet scared as well. She didn't look up, yet Yuto could feel the presence of the fire in her heart. She is more of a strong-willed person like Tetsu, yet something thrown off. Like she saw something she can't unsee.
"Is it a monster?" Yuto said to himself, hoping he could get the answer from himself as well. Yet like always his mind went towards a blank.
"Alright, this is my friend. His name is Yuto, and he's an idiot. He's here to help."
"Hi, I'm Yuto. I'm not an idiot."
Help? Yuto thought before one of them started to speak.
"Please help us! We lost our fri- no. We lost our sister already! We have nowhere to go and no one to help us!"
"Slow down. Where did you see your sister last? We can help find her."
"Yuto." Tetsu started as Yuto turned his head to look at him in confusion.
"Wrong kind of lost." That's when it dawned on Yuto.
"Hi, I'm Yuto and I am an idiot. Is that enough of a start over?"
"It's fine... She wouldn't want you to beat yourself up over it. She... probably sensed the monster but knew we couldn't outrun it."
"What was her name?"
"Ita."
"Do you think you can also explain what happened?"
"Okay... It was around an hour ago."
...
"We're running down on flame."
"It's fine right Ita?"
"Yup! I can make another stick fire with this lighter."
"Well, I know that. I said that because I think we should settle for the night."
"Settle? Why Mia? We have the best stick holder of all time... Emi! What could go wrong?"
"I want to avoid any casualties. We only have two sticks so far and we can't find another one. We aren't guaranteed safety because we have a lighter. It's stupid to be risky when we don't have to."
"Mia. You're so scared of everything. You need to think more about living down here than anything."
"Ita... That's the most... stupidest thing I ever heard come out of anyone's mouth! That's exactly what I just suggested."
"No. Living isn't just surviving. It's enjoying the process of surviving."
"Now that you said that, it's the third stupidest thing I've ever heard."
"Third? What's one and two?"
"Well since you asked, the Third is what you just said, the second is what you said previously, want to take a guess for the first one?"
"I thought what I said a second ago was the first one?"
"It was until I remembered one even stupider."
"Is it what I said?" Emi said out of nowhere looking down and playing with her hair.
"Exactly! We have a winner!"
"It wasn't that bad Mia."
"Oh yeah, Ita? Let's make friends with the monsters? What if they're just misunderstood? Like, that deserves something."
"I think it's sweet. Emi. You have no reason to be disappointed because you're sweet."
"Don't teach her that. It's cool to be sweet and all but, in this world, it's heartless and cold. If you're too busy being sweet, everyone around you could die. Do you want to risk the lives of others for your own stupidity?"
"I- I-"
"That's enough Mia. Emi doesn't have to answer that. She has us. I promise nothing is going to hurt you guys."
"Whatever, Ita. You're lucky I know what you're capabl-"
"It was luck!"
"Huh?"
"I mean... What you saw was just luck."
"Oh... Okay."
Silence beared over them. The awkward kind. They continued to walk before they felt a bit of a breeze, yet not enough to get rid of the bright fire that lit The Darken Plain.
"Do you guys believe in a better world?"
"A better world?"
"Yes."
"Like a world where there won't be any more rejects?"
"Sort of."
"What a nice dream."
"Thanks, Ita. However, I don't think I earn any praise if I'm part of the issue."
"What makes you say that, Emi?"
"I'm a reject myself... If I was just better I would be able to teach others how to not be a reject. So there wouldn't be any more rejects." Emi then cracks a smile, but with a tear going down her face.
"Come on, let's sleep for the night."
"Alright, Mia!" Emi said, whipping her eyes and cracking another smile.
"Wait. You two."
"Ita. We need to sleep."
"I know but... somethings there."
"Oh. Shit."
"Language Mai."
"This really isn't the time."
It was in the darkness of The Darken Plain, but you could hear the breathing. Thick and heavy and full of life. Coming closer. Each step on the stained, decorated red floor. Ita looks around before grabbing a rock and throwing it into the abyss.
"Ouch!"
They all heard before a light was lit to reveal a teenager with a light. He had black hair and brown eyes and a more attractive face. His skin was pale, however, like he hadn't had any water or food in a long time.
"What are you doing just in the darkness!?" The three said together in a collective. Ita out of curiosity, Mia out of anger, and Emi in confusion.
"Oh... I was trying to... Uhm.... Light this stick." The boy said in the most innocent and shy way possible.
That's when Ita and Mia at the same time thought the same thing. He's my type! Emi was happy it was a human...
"What are you doing traveling alone? Don't you know how dangerous it is down here?" Mia said, walking to him and hugging him.
"Uh~ Uhm... It's... I'm... I'm looking for my little sister."
"Oh? Is she alone out here?"
"Yeah. I don't know why but... She really hates me right now."
"Why?"
"Well, I said we couldn't make friends with the monsters who are trying to kill us. She didn't like it that much."
"Oh... What a stupid thing to say anyways."
"Well, she is little... I think it's sort of sweet."
"I find it sweet too." Ita's smirk started as soon as the words started to leave her mouth. The side of Ita that rarely comes out... Her competitive side.
"In fact, it's not the only thing I find sweet," Ita said, running a finger over the boy as Mia did.
"Well~ I mean well! I- I think I should find my sister! If I... If I do find her... If I see you guys again... Could I possibly... I don't know. Join you guys? I know it's dumb because I'm a guy and I'm adding in another girl but I think you'll love my sister and she's very useful an-"
"Find her. Once you do, find us again. We accept you with open hands."
"Okay~ I mean... Okay." The teen said before starting to go in the direction they just came from.
"Wai!." Emi said and he turned around and made the other two turn around to face Emi as well.
"Do you find it stupid... What did your little sister say? Is that a dumb dream to you?"
"Dumb? Nope. I find it unrealistic. However, if we could, I would want that to happen. I think that is the sweetest change of events. It's just that they feed on us. We're practically walking and talking food. However, I wish she could achieve her dream if I do die down here, that way she could live a better life than the one I could ever provide for her." The way the teen said it didn't feel like his usual shy self. He felt confident and said everything without a stutter.
"I- I mean! It's just my opinion! Nothing factual! Nothing set in stone! I get it if you find it stupi-"
"I don't. I... want to meet your sister one day."
"Then I guess I have to come back, now do I?"
"Guess you do." Ita and Mia said at the same time before they both looked at each other. Both their faces are red.
"Yeah. I do."
"I'm Ita. These are my friends Mia and Emi. They're sisters. What's your name?"
"Jake. My sister's name is Kaya."
The Teen then turned around with a bright red face as well, but in a hurry.91Please respect copyright.PENANA7auaQZ41cj

"I... don't know. I really don't know."
"It sounds like you found someone you can relate to. That's perfect for you then." Ita said hugging both her and Mia at the same time and turning them to get them to start walking.
"What makes you think we're buddy-buddy, Ita."
"Huh!? What should I do, Mia!?"
"You're trying to steal my man. That's what you're doing!"
"Bull! I saw him first! Finders keepers!"
"I made my move first though. You just sat there picking your nose!"
"Picking my nose!? You know I would never!"
"Who knows that?"
"Guys." Emi started before the two of them looked at her.
"I don't think he's going to choose between you two if you're both fighting over him. Maybe play a game or something to decide who can be the first one."
"Great idea Emi! Alright, first to-" That's when the breeze kicked in at full speed, leaving the group of three in darkness.
"Alright everyone don't panic! We have a lighter! Light The sticks!"
"I can't!"
"What do you mean you can't!? Emi! Light the damn sticks!
"The sticks flew out of my hand."
"WHAT!?" Both Ita and Mia both yelled out to Emi who crunched herself under the pressure of the words.
"All of us need to immediately look for those sticks."
In the darkness, they heard the scream of someone. It sounded like... that boy we met from earlier, it sounded like Jake.
"Don't worry about Jake right now. He can hold himself!" Ita screamed knowing they all stopped in fear.
Dirt. All of them feel like dirt. That's when they heard it.
"RAHH!" It was a loud scream. It had to be a monster. It was right next to them.
