"This is certainly a surprise," Sang-Jin said when he saw Shin Do-Sik enter Han Yong-Min's office.
"Well, what do you want now?"
Han Yong-Min demanded as he looked up. It was like he found Shin Do-Sik's sudden appearance in his office offensive.
"Are you still going to hold the press conference?"
Sang-Jin asked with a nervous little smile.
"No, I have decided not do it after carefully thinking about it. I realised what it meant to you both."
Han Yong-Min jumped up from his chair with an air of excitement.
"I knew you would come through. I was just telling Sang-Jin that you are such a gentleman."
"That's very nice of you, Mr Shin," Sang-Jin said. "What made you change your mind?"
"Don't get the idea that I like this. I am merely doing this because I am a gentleman and I like to offer my help every now and then."
"I hope you realise all the inconvenience you will letting yourself in for."
Han Yong-Min quickly jumped in. "Mr Shin knows what he is doing. Everything will be alright. Once the book is finished and all the promotion campaigns are done you two will break up so to say."
"One more thing," Do-Sik said as he looked from Yong-Min to Sang-Jin, "now that we are supposedly a couple, what's next?"
"We will let you know the details shortly."
Yong-Min informed Do-Sik with a sly smile.
That evening, to celebrate their triumph Yong-Min took Sang-Jin to L'Amitie, a good French restaurant in Seoul for dinner.
L'Amitie was renowned for its Foie gras and other traditional French cuisine that changed everyday based on the ingredients available on that particular day.
Before they ordered their meal, Yong-Min placed an envelope in front of Sang-Jin.
"What is this for?"
"Well open it and see for yourself."
Sang-Jin opened the envelope and found a check inside.
"Your memoir is doing very well on the bestseller's list, so here is another royalty check."
Sang-Jin smiled proudly as he gazed at the handsome figures on the check.
"So what are you going to spend it on?"
"I am depositing it into my savings account."
"That's a brilliant idea and I hope you are hard at work on your next book?"
"Yes, I am halfway through the first draft."
"Good," Yong-Min said as he looked at the menu.
"What did you find out about Shin Do-Sik?"
Sang-Jin asked as he could no longer fight his curiosity.
"Where do I even start? He was introduced to game of golf when he was three by his mother. When he was sixteen he won the junior golf player of the year. But when he was in university he mother died from cancer which made him almost give up golf."
Sang-Jin did not know why but he felt an arching sense of loss grip him. "What type of cancer did she die from?"
"Breast cancer."
"I am so sorry for his loss."
"His mother's death did take a toll on him, but his father had always been there for him. Offering strength and comfort. He was the one who didn't allow him to give up the game."
"I think he should start a breast cancer foundation in her honor of his late mother," Sang-Jin said after a long moment.
"He is planning to do exactly that."
"I see."
"Do you know how much he has earned so in his golf career?"
"How much?"
"10 million dollars and half of that came from his sponsorship deals. And if he wins a major tournament he is going to earn even more money. I think you should move into his penthouse."
A sense of panic danced through Sang-Jin's body.
"Why should I move into his penthouse?"
"Reporter Kim Yoo-Bin wants to do an interview with you."
"About what exactly?"
Sang-Jin was still experiencing conflicting emotions.
"About your life, your hobbies, your writing and of course about your "relationship" with Do-Sik."
"Is this interview even necessary?"
"It's a good opportunity to promote yourself and your writing. He wants the interview to give viewers a behind the scene take about your life. And having Shin Do-Sik's penthouse as the backdrop for the interview would give your fake relationship so much credibility."
