Background- College Comp, a class I had been looking forward to. All of these are reflections on a topic, question, or story. AND YES, that is a FFDP reference.360Please respect copyright.PENANAe9UxLearwW

Many of the themes in class have had me think more about the reality that we live in which is something that I typically always look at; now I see that other works highlight such things. Works such as Shooting An Elephant and the recent story about no one calling the police despite what had happened help to show off what humanity is becoming, darkness. Not all people follow the norm of society however, a prime example in the news lately being Anonymous. The norms of society are generally viewed as good or heaven as some might say, while being abnormal and breaking the norm for the better like Anonymous might be viewed as evil or hellish.
Society can be viewed to some as falling apart, regarding terrorism, the many wars occurring, even the racial battles. A common example of racial battles is the Black Lives Matter protest that is ongoing throughout the United States, people of one race demanding changes to bring about a natural peace. Anonymous is another system as mentioned before, trying to change the world for the better, a common view being that businesses run the governments which run the world, thus putting the rich in power over all, that of course causes problems for the lower class people who are relatively poor. A common quote used to explain why this is a problem goes as such: "The rich keep getting richer and the poor keep getting poorer."
The process of changing the norm is something most people would never think to do; they would prefer to just sit back and watch so long as it doesn't negatively affect them in any such way. This causes a problem by not solving the problem, instead allowing it to happen if not unknowingly supporting it by doing nothing. In Shooting An Elephant, had the people not watched the elephant and simply gone away, it may have not gotten shot, thus they in a sense had supported it getting shot. Eyes are made for watching, voices are made for speaking out, we have both so why not use both?
Of course not speaking out is considered the norm typically or being on the side of heaven, even if it is wrong. Those who speak out against injustice are frowned upon and cast under the category of hell, even if they are speaking out for what is right. Good and evil have always clashed, often with Heaven and Hell swapping places on what is right and wrong. Terrorism can be seen as an extreme way of speaking out against what is wrong but that doesn't necessarily make it right either.
The end result with people is will they take the easy way out, standing on the wrong side of heaven or might they speak out for what is right on the righteous side of hell even though it can be more difficult? The answer might not be clear but in time, more and more people will pick the right side.
