"Are you ready?" I ask Remus as he sits in the chair. I take out my phone and snap a picture.
"Last chemo!" Remus says in excitement. Twelve months ago he was supposed to die. Yet here we are, beating the odds. Three years after his diagnosis. Over a year of being married. Remus is in his final year of arts school. I still haven't gone back. Though it's the end of most things bad, I still need to be here for him.
"You all excited for Remus' last chemo?" The doctor says as he walks in.
"Yes sir." I say as I smile at my husband. My husband.
"Alright, let's begin." The doctor says as he pricks Remus. At this point after three years Remus isn't even phased anymore. He smiles through the pain.
"Mr. (Y/N) may I speak with you outside?" The doctor asks and I nod my head. I get up and head outside with him and he sits me down.
"As you know Remus is now well enough to get taken off of chemo, but for the next few months we will be checking him. Making sure nothing is going on. Then after that you will come in ever year. Is that understood?" The doctor says and I nod my head.
"Makes perfect sense." I say and he nods.
"And if he feels any pain in his chest or is wheezing, no matter how long ago the last check was you bring him here immediately." The doctor warns
"Understood." I say and he nods.
"I'll check back in within ten minutes." The doctor says as he walks away. I walk back into the room and sit down.
"What was it about?" Remus asks as he stares at the ceiling.
"Your checkins, he was just clearing them with me." I say and Remus nods slightly, "how are you feeling?"
"I'm feeling okay, no pains or anything but i'm tired." Remus says and I get up and hold his hand.
"My little warrior," I say as I sit down next to him.
"I'm still taller than you." He says and I smile.
"Want some music, I also brought your favorite book." I say and he nods his head. I turn on classical music and pass him his book.
"Will you read it to me?" Remus asks and I chuckle.
"Of course I will." I say and he smiles. His lips are slightly cracked and he is beginning to get pale again. It's nice though to see him a stronger. His muscle is coming back and he doesn't look like a skeleton anymore.
"Are you going to read or just stare?" Remus asks and I snap out of my trance.
"Sorry, i'm just, well a lot is on my mind." I say and Remus nods.
"Like what?" He asks.
"What if it comes back?" I ask and I can see him shudder.
"It wont." He says and I nod my head.
"And plus you know you'll never be able to do what you used to. Your lung capacity is damaged forever." I say and Remus nods again.
"Then you'll have to help me when I need help. Think of it as a bonding exercise." Remus says and I sigh, "anything else?"
"So many things, like what are we going to have for dinner." I say and Remus laughs.
"Peter is going to make me eat soup. Most likely there will be extra so you can have that. If I have to eat soup so do you." Remus says and I nod my head.
"I'll never leave you, you know that right?" I ask and he smiles.
"You know i'll never leave you, right?" Remus asks and I smile.
"I know," I say as I get up.
"Where are you going?" Remus asks in sudden alarm.
"Calm down, i'm just grabbing my water." I say and he relaxes.
"I can't wait for a few months from now." Remus says, I look at him in confusion.
"Why?" I ask.
"Because then I can take you on that date i've been promising." He says.
"Don't focus on that, plus this has been just one giant, crazy date." I say as I sit back down with my water.
"Are you going back to school after this?" Remus asks and I shrug.
"I might, I did enjoy the first year of it." I say.
"I'm sorry you had to quit because of me." Remus says and I shake my head.
"No don't be sorry, you have nothing to be sorry for." I say and he nods his head.
"Sirs," we hear and look over to see the doctor.
"Hello sir." Remus says.
"How are you feeling Remus?" He asks as he sits next to the monitors.
"Pretty good." Remus says. I smile.
"Alright well let me just write these numbers down and we'll be all good." The doctor says. Thats how the rest of chemo went. Writing down numbers and random chatting and laughing. By the end Remus was exhausted. When we got to the car he fell right asleep. I drove us to the dorm where once again Peter is cooking.
"Whats on the stove pete?" I ask as help Remus sit down.
"Soup for Remus and spagetti for dinner." Peter says and I nod. I turn on the TV for Remus and get a throw up bag ready.
"Hey you two, you're back." Lily says cradling baby Harry.
"How old is he now?" I ask.
"5 months." Lily says as James appears behind her.
"And isn't he just lovely?" James asks everyone.
"He sure is." Peter says as he adds some spices to the sauce.
"Lily and I have something to say." James begins as there is a knock on the door. We open the door and see Sirius standing outside.
"Just in time," Lily says.
"For what?" Sirius asks as he sits on the couch next to Remus.
"We're moving to our own house." James says and the room falls silent.
"You're leaving us?" Sirius says.
"Not leaving, we'll be just outside the university, very close." Lily says.
"It's for Harry, he needs to grow up off the grounds. Plus by the end of the year we all will be moving." James says.
"I hadn't thought about that." I say and James nods his head.
"(Y/N) we should start house shopping." Remus says and I stand in shock.
Us, living together, I mean we've been living together for years but not alone.
"Well congrats Lily and James. I for one am excited for you." Peter says.
"Thanks Peter." Lily says as she passes Harry to James who looks unsure and then she goes on to hug Peter.
"I'm so proud of you." I say and Lily thanks me.
"When do you move out?" Sirius asks.
"End of the week we'll begin packing." James says and everyone nods their heads.
