After 3 hours of driving to Atlanta then driving around and shopping once I saw the malls, I finally decide go to my father’s house. I pull up this rustic brick two story house. I look at my phone which has the address on it, “Well, this look about right.”
A man comes out, “Azaireyah?”
“Yes, that’s me,” I assure.
He smiles, “I’m Kincade. Your father.”
He walks towards me with open arms. Hesitantly, I hug him. He squeezes me a little. “You look so much like your mother when she was younger.”
“I do?”
“Yes, you do. Do you have any bags?”
“They are in the trunk,” I point. I pop the trunk open so he can get my bags.
He retrieves them and hobbles into the house. I follow behind him.
“This is really nice, Kincade.”
“Thank you.” He goes upstairs, then comes back down without my bags, but has a scrap book. He sits down on the sofa and I sit next to him. “Your mother sent me pictures of you,” he flips through the some of the pages.
I smile, “so that’s what she was doing.”
“Yes, since I wasn’t able to be there. She didn’t want me to miss anything. But, I kind of feel like I have.”
“Yeah, I guess it would feel that way,” I look at him and I can see so many of my features in his face. “How come you never came to see me?”
“I did, but Leo. He was a jealous and bitter bastard,” he sneers. “He threatened your mother’s life and your life if I came around again. You were about 5 years old.” He flips through the scrap book and stops at a page of him, my mom, and myself. He is holding on his shoulders, and I have a few teeth missing. “She had snuck out with you and we went shopping for you and did a lot of fun things. You were worn out afterwards.”
“Leo, really threatened my life?”
“Yes, I know you’re gonna ask. Well, why didn’t she just leave, right?”
I nod.
“For her, it wasn’t that easy. The guy was ruthless when it came to her for some reason. He knew where she was and who she was with at all times. I don’t know how he knew, but he did.”
“That sounds….possessive.”
“Oh yeah. That guy was just ridiculous with her. Then she had 4 more kids with him.”
“Yes, she did. They are all just so nonchalant.”
“I suspect as much. From what your mother would tell me, because we talked all the time or tried. Leo brainwashed those kids into thinking that some things were okay to do and to be unemotional. But, I think he got offended when he couldn’t do that to you. I think it got under his skin, seriously.”
“I wish you had have come get me and mama.”
“I couldn’t risk your lives,” he hangs his head. “It would seriously hurt me if something bad happened to her or you.”
“We could have left the country, Kincade.”
“I know but…I wish I could help you understand just how crazy he was, but I can’t. All I can do now is hope that you are living comfortably.”
“I am,” I smile. “I really am.”
He gets up, “Great.”
I rub my sweaty palms on my pants, “I have a question.”
“Alright.”
“Do I have any siblings?”
“Yes,” he nods. “You have an older brother name Remington, he prefers Remi. And Anijah is your sister. She is about,” he looks up at the ceiling in thought, “a year younger than you.”
“Their mother?”
“Remi’s mom left me with him one morning and Anijah’s mom, I don’t know about her too much. She pops up when she wants something, never to spend time with Anijah, but,” he shrugs his shoulders, “she seems fine with it.”
I stand up and stretch, “when will I get to meet them?”
“Tomorrow.”
“Why?”
“I told them to leave the house because I wanted some time with you.”
I giggle, “That’s alright.”
“But, if you want, I can call them up and we can all have dinner tonight.”
“I would like that.” I think the thought of having siblings who will probably care about me, has me all excited.
“Well, let me show you to your room so you can get settled in.”
“Okay.”
I follow him up the stairs and he points to the door on the right. “That’s your room for whenever you wanna come and visit for a while.”
“Thank you.”
“Welcome, I’ll be in the yard. I have to mow the lawn before the city files a complaint.”
I smile. He leaves. I begin to unpack and put my things in the drawers. I figured I would stay for a week. I really want things to go well with him and myself.654Please respect copyright.PENANAvAuPEfW1sb
