In the early hours,

when the air bites sharp and cold,

and the dreamers stagger awake,

the sun rises slowly,

spilling its dull light

over the hills,

yellow and green,

Autumn's fading colors,

clinging to life.

Tall oaks stand like silent sentinels,

their branches heavy,

bowed low under the weight of time,

defrosting from the frost's cruel touch

as the warmth claws at their veins.

Blue jeans,

fresh-cut grass,

the sun, a cold idol,

distant and reverent.

I sit,

a quiet witness,

nestled in this hilltop tomb,

looking down at the valley,

where the horizon sprawls

like a dream that never wakes.

The morning drags on,

rejuvenating in its bitterness,

the breeze a cold whisper,

caressing the skin,

like a lover's cruel hand.

Dogs patrol,

their movements sharp,

guards of the unseen,

trailing scents through the light,

chasing memories in the breeze.

I sit,

frozen on my chair,

waiting,

feeling the sunlight carve through me,

its warmth like a dagger,

piercing the shade,

drawing me closer to something

I can't name.

as I soak in the morning's hollow energy,
