“The Shadows of Fairhaven”
Act 20
( The stage curtain stays closed the stage stays dark and The narrator comes out and the light is on him as he enters the stage)
Narrator: Ladies and gentlemen, we now fast forward a few years after the events that unfolded in Fairhaven. Theodore Vandelles, the temporary mayor, took on the role with great promise and dedication, following in the footsteps of the beloved Mayor Edmond Harrington. The town prospered under his leadership, and the people held him in high regard.
However, as time went on, Theodore's integrity began to waver. Seduced by the allure of power and wealth, he started accepting bribes and engaging in corrupt practices. A seedy underworld took hold in Fairhaven, casting a shadow over the once-thriving community.
Meanwhile, Theodore's brother, Sebastian Vandelles, seized the opportunity to expand his influence. He not only controlled the railroad but also gained a monopoly over the steamboat company, renaming it the Vandelles Fairhaven Steamboat Company. With this newfound power, Sebastian's dominance over the town's transportation became absolute.
Tragedy struck when Elijah Thaddeus Worthington, the prominent figure in the community and owner of The Fairhaven Steamboat Company, took his own life in jail before his trial. His death sent shockwaves through the town, leaving a void that could never be filled.
Soon after, Percival Vandelles, the patriarch of the Vandelles family, suffered a fatal stroke. His passing marked the end of an era and left Theodore and Sebastian to navigate the uncertain future of Fairhaven.
Just as the town grappled with these losses, the Civil War erupted, engulfing the nation in turmoil. The Union Army, in their quest for control, captured Fairhaven, bringing an abrupt halt to its prosperity. The town became a battleground, its once-thriving streets now filled with soldiers and the echoes of conflict.
Amidst the chaos, Theodore and Sebastian Vandelles, driven by desperation and a desire to protect their town, took up arms against the Union Army. However, their efforts were in vain. The stage is set with a backdrop of destruction and smoke, symbolizing the ravages of war.
Theodore and Sebastian, their faces marked with determination, stand defiantly in the center of the stage. The sound of marching boots grows louder as Union soldiers surround them.
Captain William Foster: (shouting)
Theodore and Sebastian Vandelles, you are under arrest for treason against the Union!
Theodore: (resolute)
We will not let you take our town!
Sebastian: (equally resolute)
Fairhaven belongs to us!
The soldiers overpower Theodore and Sebastian, disarming them and binding their hands. They are led to a makeshift execution site, marked by a row of rifles and a firing squad.
As the firing squad takes their positions, Theodore and Sebastian face their fate with grim determination. The tension in the air is palpable.
Narrator: (solemnly)
The echoes of the gunshots reverberate through the town, marking the end of their tumultuous reign.
The stage darkens, and the sound of gunfire fades away, leaving behind an eerie silence.
Fairhaven, once a beacon of hope and prosperity, now stands in ruins. The legacy of corruption and betrayal leaves a lasting scar on the town's history.
And so, we bid farewell to Fairhaven, a place that witnessed both the rise and fall of its leaders. May its story serve as a cautionary tale, reminding us of the consequences that befall those who succumb to greed and power.

And with that, the play comes to a close.
( The Narrator stands and finishes the story and the stage darkens)
