Scene:
Morning. 10 am, November, 13th, Town Square
Edmund and Elijah are getting ready to debate
(Samuel Whitmore takes the stage with a megaphone in hand getting ready to announce the candidates )
Samuel:
Good morning ladies and gentlemen!
I would like to welcome you all to today's debate.
(pausing to clear throat)
Our debate today will be with our Mayor Edmond Harrington, and his challenger Mr. Elijah Thaddeus Worthington
(crowd cheering )
Samael: (speaking into the megaphone)
We will start with our mayor Mr. Edmund Harrington today, Go ahead mayor you can speak now.
Edmund:
Thank you kindly, Mr. Whitman
Today friends and neighbors I stand before you today not as your mayor, but as your friend. We all know about the changing times, that are all around us. I come to you with a promise and growth.
I know I've been your mayor for the last 16 years and I know just about everyone hear. As your friend and neighbor. I would like to remind you of all the great changes in our fair city and all the improvements that were made under my
leadership, For instance, the pavement of Church Street and the beautification of Fairhaven Park with the new shrubs, and the brand-new fountain, Such things are only the beginning if I'm reelected. Remember friends and neighbors, my family, and many of your family as well helped found Fairhaven. So remember friends and neighbors. Remember when you are voting. Do you want a friend running your town or a stranger running it? Thank you, ladies and gentlemen.
(crowd cheering)
Samuel : (speaking into the megaphone)
Now Mr. Worthington you can speak.
Elijah:
Thank you, Mr. Whitman. Ladies and gentlemen, it may be true that I'm not from your fair city, As I came from Charlette, North Carolina. I've only been here a few years, but I come to love this town as my own. As my own, I also see its potential. As in the changing times, there must be improvements and innovation. As you say, well for one tax incentive for new businesses and industries for there to be innovation there must be growth. New jobs will be available like never before. New ways of doing things will replace the old. Do you want Fairhaven to be a quaint little stop to the big city, or a city to be an example of the future to be admired? For one replace the tired old railroad with steamboats and Hackney carriages for citizens to hire. The old ways of doing things must be forgotten. Steamboats and Hackney carriages are the future. Where I come from. If I'm elected I will get rid of the dangerous out-of-date railway, for safer ways of transportation. I will implement a 5 percent tax on railroad travel and use that money to bring our fair city to the future. Please let Fairhaven be the Charlotte of Virginia. So when you go to vote, remember the past but head for the future. Thank you, ladies and gentlemen.
