“ Changing Tides”

Act 9

(Curtain opens)

Scene:

Morning, Dining Room 8:00 AM Sunday, November 12th ( The Vandelles are sitting around the Dinner table eating breakfast and discussing the upcoming election. )

Percival:

Do you know another election coming up?

Theodore:

Yes, Father, I was aware of this.

Sebastian:

I can assume Edmund running unopposed again.

Percival:

Believe it or not no.

(Theodore and Sebastian both replied what! who?

Percival :

That fellow that runs Fairhaven Steamboat Company.

Sebastian :

Do you mean Elijah Thaddeus Worthington?

Percival:

That would be the one.

Sebastian :

That goody two shoes?

Percival:

Yes, afraid so.

Theodore:

What is his platform?

Percival:

Change for Fairhaven, something like that. He wants to make Fairhaven like a large port city.

Sebastian :

Fairhaven is fine the way it is, can you imagine all the hustle and bustle of a large port city? We wouldn't be able to move around with all the people here.

Percival:

It seems he wants the city of the future the whole 20th-century thing I guess.

Theodore:

What is Edmund's platform going to be now?

Percival:

Well, when I saw him yesterday while on my stroll he was in the front yard pruning his roses and he called me over and while I was there, he told me all the changes he could make. Like expanding the roads and repairing the old ones and things like that.

Theodore:

Is he going to bring up the fact his family is one of the founding members of Fairhaven?

Percival:

He didn't say anything about that to me at the time, but I'm sure he used that as well.

Sebastian:

Well, he has done a lot for the town, I don't think “Ol” Elijah is much competition for him.

Percival:

I wouldn't say that, he's got the young new voters' attention with the future city idea.

Sebastian :

Well, dear brother, it sounds like Edmond might need are help on swaying the voters his way.

Theodore:

Yes, I think that's a smashing idea!

Percival :

Well, you boys have a lot of work ahead of you.

(Theodore and Sebastian both agree and nod their heads. )

Percival: (smiling and laughing)

I'll do my part with a little donation to his campaign.

Theodore:

Yes, that will be fine Father.

Sebastian:

Theodore and I will do our part and he'll be sure to win.

(The Vandelles all leave the dining room and go to their respective jobs or activities. )
