He walked around silently in awe as he did, fireworks shot into the air and kids laughed and chased each other.
"C'mon Wilbur I wanna show you something!" A kid with disheveled blonde hair and a red and white T-shirt and jeans yelled.
Soul dodged the kid who almost ran into him before he spotted a tall male with wavy brown hair, gold rimmed glasses and a trench coat on.
The male chuckled as he went to follow the kid, he looked to Soul as he glanced back and glared at the kid.
"Sorry about him, he's like a spark. Always full of energy" he apologized in a thick accent, Soul crossed his arms.
"Whatever, just make sure he doesn't run into someone who'll actually do something." Soul said before walking past him, Wilbur raised an eyebrow and watched as Soul walked away his hair trailing behind him.
Wilbur shrugged and followed the kid.
As Soul walked his anxiety started to spike, he took a deep breath of air and darted into a small alley leaning against the wall, his hands on his knees.
He wasn't used to crowds yet like he used to be- or was he ever used to crowds…? Right he wasn't allowed to remember.
he sighed and looked up at the blue sky, clouds slowly floating by.
"Find somewhere secluded… "
He nodded and stood straight as he slipped out of the alley and made his way to the beginning of the boardwalk where he entered, dodging and weaving kids and adults not paying attention.
When he reached the end he left out a breath of relief as he stepped into the green grass.
Much better…
He straightened the strap over his shoulder and entered the edge of a forest letting the chirping of birds and buzzing of bees calm him down.
He ran his hand across a tree every once in a while feeling the grooves in its bark, he crouched down and sat against one as the sun went down.
He stared at the sunset which he could see just barely over the treetops.
Something moaned and he got up quickly with the sword on his hip instantly in his hand, he turned slowly looking around as an undead creature rounded a tree.
Spotting him the creature ran towards him limping and moaning, Soul's eyes widened and he dodged it before landing a blow from the Hilt to the back of its head.
It groaned and swung its arm to hit Soul, Soul glared and swung the sword towards its neck, its head falling to the ground with a thump. Rotting blood splattered on his face and he let his arm drop to his side, sword in hand.
He took deep measured breaths and wiped his cheek smearing blood when someone chuckled.
"Look at you, haven't even been here that long and already getting attacked at night…" they paused and Soul looked up.
"It's too bad though, I would've liked to be your prince Charming" the person lit a torch and dream stopped there with a smirk.
Soul rolled his eyes.
"Haha, very funny."
Dream grinned and made his way towards him kicking the corpse gently as it faded.
"Why are you out here and not in Pogtopia? '' Dream asked, Soul scoffed.
"That's what I should be asking you" he retorted.
"Sorry?"
Soul stared at him and sheathed his sword, Dream sighed.
"It's nothing." He replied, Soul shrugged and sat down.
Dream gestured to the tree "can I join you?" He questioned, Soul glanced at the spot next to him.
"I guess"
Dream nodded and lowered himself to the ground next to him, his green sweater bright in the darkness as he stabbed the torch into the ground, the flame licking the air.
Soul sighed and stared up at the stars that started to appear, Dream smiled to himself.
"I used to sit out in the rain and watch the stars… it was comforting, especially after my anxiety kicked in at the worst times" he chuckles to himself.
Soul looked at him, curiosity getting the best of him "you have anxiety?" He said, Dream looked at him and they locked eyes.
Blue on green.
"Everyone has a little bit of anxiety but yeah… I guess mine is a bit more extreme" he said with a small frown. Soul glanced down at his hands.
"I have it too… that's why I came out here- also why I'm not in Pogtopia…I clearly can't stand being in a crowd for long periods of time" he explained.
"Ah, agoraphobia?"
Soul chuckles to himself "I guess, if that's what you want to call it… " he said, Dream frowned and glanced at him.
"You really don't remember anything from before you fell through do you?" He questioned, Soul shrugged.
"More like I'm not allowed to"
Dream cocked an eyebrow "oh?"
Soul sighed " I'm not really supposed to say anything" he said, Dream leaned back against the tree.
"I'll tell you why I dipped earlier if you tell me why you can't remember… " he bargained, Soul cocked an eyebrow.
"Almost tempting"
Dream chuckled "I'm serious though" he said, Soul sighed.
"But I barely know you"
Dream shrugged "hi I'm dream, I'm 22, I have a cat named patches and I live alone and am mentally crazy as some people say" he introduced jokingly.
Soul laughed. "You have a cat named patches?"
Dream scoffed "that's the only thing you hung onto?" Soul smirked.
"I like cats…"
Dream smiled gently "I'll keep that in mind.. "
"Can I trust you?"
Dream shrugged "depends"
Soul sighed "then can I be your friend?" He asked, Dream tensed and chuckled.
"I haven't had one of those in a while so sure, I'd enjoy the company" he replied, Soul smiled to himself and Dream chuckled.
"Heyyy- there's that smile"
Soul flinched and turned pink in the cheeks, his heart skipping a beat.
What the hell…
"Seriously though, back to the point"
Soul nodded.
"I uh- I'm not allowed to remember because apparently my other half, my shadow wanted me to have a better life here… something about where I was before was so traumatic apparently and they made a deal with some goddess to make me forget and try to become something new" he explained.
Dream stared at the ground in silence for a bit processing what he said.
"Damn… that's deep"
Soul shrugged, picking at a piece of grass "eh, I'm being controlled by a bloodthirsty goddess you think that's deep?" He stated, Dream shrugged.
"Depends"
Soul sighed and pulled his knees to his chest "what about you?"
Dream shivered against a cold breeze and adjusted the black harness on his chest that held his sword. "I'm supposed to be in jail" he said slowly, Soul raised an eyebrow.
"What did you do to blow up a whole Nation?" He chuckled, Dream blinked and stared at him.
"Yeah…Actually…"
Soul froze. "No way"
Dream moved the smiling ceramic mask over his face "that's… actually I kind of admire that" Soul said with a small smile.
Dream tensed "you're pulling my leg"
Soul rolled his eyes and tugged gently at Dream's pants "now I am" he smirked, Dream scoffed.
"Why do you admire the fact that I blew up a whole Nation? I mean I clearly failed. It's still there and thriving and I'm being chased down because I'm dangerous" he snapped. Soul stood and offered Dream his hand.
"Dangerous my ass, you seem more like a goofball than a mass killer" he said with a small chuckle, Dream sighed and took his hand. soul pulled him up off the ground, "besides, it doesn't bother me… I'm sure I've killed plenty of people before I fell here anyways. That and people are obnoxious" he said, Dream raised an eyebrow.
"I'm a person"
Soul shrugged "you're a different kind of person, I mean normal people. People who are basic and boring. People who think it's fun to run governments over sameness like their Hitler and Washington's love child" he said, Dream chuckled.
"That's an interesting way to put that but I like it" he said, Soul grinned letting his hand rest on the Hilt of his sword.
"So then Soul, I'm making my way somewhere secluded. If you'd like to join me, I'd enjoy the company" he said, Soul raised a dark eyebrow.
"How secluded?"
"Like deep in the woods of a spruce forest with no villages nearby kind of secluded" he said, Soul smiled.
"I will gladly join you" he paused "if you are willing to do me a favor" he suggested messing with his mask, Dream raised an eyebrow.
"Cut my hair when we get there please? It's so annoying" he groaned, Dream chuckled.
"Your old self didn't seem to think so"
Soul smirked.
"I'm not my old self"
Dream chuckles "you just proved my point" Soul shook his head with a smile when a twig snapped.
Dream had his sword in hand in a flash and Soul looked around twirling his gently.
"We should go," Dream said. Soul nodded and they ran. Voices shouted after them and Soul laughed. It was like a game of cat and mouse except he was the mouse and running away was thrilling.
Dream glanced back and sheathed his sword catching Soul by the front as they tumbled to a stop before a cliff that dropped into water.
"Perfect. We need to jump, it'll throw them off course" Dream said, Soul nodded.
Something about running away with a mass murderer sparked a deviant feeling in his body, he nodded.
"Take my hand so we don't lose each other" Dream said, Soul's eyebrows shot up.
"Sorry?"
"Just do it!"
And so he did, grasping Dream's hand the warmth warming Souls' always cold body they jumped.
Soul clenched his eyes shut and Dream's grip tightened just as they hit the water. Soul opened his eyes to see Dream do the same, their hair billowing around them, Dream smirked and pointed up to the surface. Soul swam up and so did Dream. Dream shook out his shoulder length hair gently and Soul groaned the feeling of the heavy formal robe-like garment sticking to him making him uncomfortable.
He pulled himself up onto shore helping Dream out, when dream patted himself dry Soul tore off the robe leaving him in a baby blue bodysuit which disappeared under his torn black trousers only a small sliver of skin showing On each side of his waist.
"God that was uncomfortable" Soul groaned feeling free, Dream chuckled pulling off his sweatshirt leaving him in a T-shirt.
"I believe it" he said tossing the wet garment over his shoulder, Soul ignored the one he left on the shore and followed dream into the grassy plains.
